Judge Wingate: Lumumba "May Have Misinformed" Public

Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba was quite proud of himself as he announced the city was passing out water filters to the citizenry because, as he put it, the water may not be safe for a few more months.  The only problem is water receiver Ted Henifin has said repeatedly Jackson's drinking water is safe.   Judge Wingate is having none of the Mayor's nonsense and ordered him to appear in his court Wednesday:

Set Hearing: Status Conference set for 6/21/2023 10:00 AM in Courtroom 6A (Jackson) before District Judge Henry T. Wingate. On June 14, 2023, the Mayor of the City of Jackson, Mississippi, called a press conference to announce the City's distribution of free water filters to a certain class of citizens, who might be harmed by Jackson's alleged poor water quality. The Mayor stated that these filters would be free and obtainable from United Healthcare. The Mayor further advised the public that processing efforts of the drinking water are underway, and should show improvement in a few months. This court is concerned whether the Mayor's comments comport with the progress that has been made on water quality by the efforts of the Interim Third Party Manager, Ted Henifin. Concerned, then, that the Mayor's comments may have misinformed the public as to the current status of Jackson's water quality, and the alleged "danger" he discussed owing to the alleged presence of various chemicals, this Court hereby ORDERS a status conference on these matters. The Mayor is hereby directed personally to attend. Additionally, the Interim Third Party Manager is also ordered to attend in person this status conference.

Mayor Lumumba said at a June 14 press conference that United Healthcare donated water filters to Jackson's more vulnerable population such as the elderly and pregnant women.  He said the filters could be used to "restore confidence" to the Jackson residents.  It was a rather interesting statement because the Mayor has repeatedly said the water is safe, right.   However, Hizzoner did say it had not been "demonstrated" the water was unsafe.  He said the use of soda ash in the system instead of liquid lime slurry might raise questions among citizens whether the water was safe. He said soda ash "clumps" in the Southern humidity.

Kingfish note: Here is the rest of the story.  The filters are good for only a few months.  That's right.  Months.

Insert meme of Jerry Springer like audience all going berserk and cheering for Judge Wingate.

*Also, how sad that this is how low the bar is. We are excited when any adult behaves in the most minimal and expected best-interest of Jackson.

Can we put this guy on a slow boat to China?

😏 Yup, whatever you say.

Wingate sparred with Navy Seals and Green Berets. Be afraid, Chokwe.

Kindly filter Marxism and turbidity.

To be fair, the water leaving the plant likely is safe. No telling what happens on the way your tap, including pipes on the homeowner's side.

Heavy metals are the issue for pregnant women and children.

Clinton, Madison, Jackson; They should filter tap water regardless.

Show-quay is so obviously desperate for everyone to see him as still relevant in the water matter. He keeps referring to it as "our water system." Dude, you are completely out the water business, which is now the bailiwick of the receiver. And now you're trying to undercut him and, by extension, the court by sowing misinformation.

Man, I hope Judge Wingate gives him a well-deserved rocket on Wednesday.

Any chance a family member “sold” these to the city of Jackson?

The judge doesn’t play games! Heads up baby choke!

I would LOVE to be there and see this!!
This has made my day!

I’ll take “things said by idiotic, racist mayors” for $100, Alex.

I am SHOCKED that this charlatan is a liar!
Next you will be reporting that a federal grand jury has indicted him on graft and corruption charges!

And on JUNETEENTH of all days!

Anonymous said...

2:46, RIGHT?
And there's no "may have" about him misinforming the public, and not only on this topic! With every "uh, ah, uh" and utterance of his string of meaningless words.

SEAL/SEALs = USN Special Ops Forces

Anonymous said...

Ha! Chowke has been called to the principals office. Right?

Anonymous said...

2:46 PM has a great question.

Anonymous said...

I'd pay a LOT for a pay for view of this event.

1:43 For those of us unknowing, could you enlighten us please.

The allusion of actually doing something.

Which is nothing. And the nothing was done by somebody else. Lets have a press conference!

Anonymous said...

I'm surprised Teddy Henifin is still involved with anything Jackson,Mississippi.

Anonymous said...

Surely, this time, something will actually happen to chokwe.

And it would be interesting to look at the specs on these filters to see what they are actually effective at filtering. Most of the time these things are just feel good gadgets.

Drink Milk!

Attn 6:58 But the filters are very good at providing income for people closely associated to His Honor, the mayor.

Anonymous said...

I don’t live in Jackson, but I bet I can buy a second hand filter at a good price. Maybe I can put it on eBay and make some money.

Anonymous said...

Attn 8:09 EBay might be where the “wholesaler” (unnamed of course) purchased these “lifesaving” masks which the city of Jackson taxpayers are purchasing. This sh*t doesn’t happen in Ridgeland and Madison.

Kingfish said...

UHC bought and donated them.

@6:32 PM,

For the kind of $$ Henifin is getting even I could put up with Chokwe's BS for at least a year.

……said Turd Ferguson for the win

Lumumba proclaimed that Jackson's water was safe to drink, even while the city was issuing lead warnings, all the way up until it was someone else's responsibility. Typical.

Like mommas taking four children, in tow, to a clinic appointment...ShockWave will have how many in his traveling circus (only to be told they can wait in the hall)?

As an aside, this is comically reminiscent of ShockWave trying to tell Pete Perry he could not talk publicly about Commission matters.

Chokwe has done nothing except mislead the public. His weekly update press conferences are often used as sarcasm and humor I. The burbs by their elected officials. I live in NE Jackson but my practice is located in flowood and many physicians I practice with if not over half out there do live in Jackson so we’ve experienced real leadership and garbage leaders like Chokwe. Not one credible or educated person could support this guy.

Anonymous said...

Kingfish, who or what is UHC?

Anonymous said...

I don’t trust the water. It’s probably mostly free of bacteria and such but do the treatment plants have the ability to filter out herbicide and pesticide residue coming off all the crop fields and lawns that drain into the Pearl River?

Of course Chok is just trying to appear relevant. He’s useless. But I don’t trust the water in Jackson.

Anonymous said...

If you want to “see this,” just show up at the courthouse. The proceedings are open to the public.

Anonymous said...

If Jokeway’s lips are moving, he’s “misleading”

Anonymous said...

I bet a gallon of Purple Creek that His Horror drinks spring water from inverted 5 gallon jugs in his home. These have a "tap", thus he can claim to drink tap water.

Anonymous said...

Where are all of Chokeme’s usual fanboy club claiming anyone saying anything against him is racist? Waiting on them to call Judge Wingate….

Anonymous said...

As a lawyer, this may be Chowke's first time ever in court. Will he be allowed to interrupt Judge Wingate? End every response with "right?" Will his handlers (Rukia & Safia) be allowed to respond for him?

Anonymous said...

The brat will never be held accountable for his shenanigans. Let’s see how serious Wingate is.

Anonymous said...

Hey this might be a smart move. Now he will know who to send their water bill to!

Anonymous said...

I seriously believe this guy would be hanging out in a driveway in Presidential Hills, if not for his daddy’s money. He’s such a joke.

Anonymous said...

I don’t have-a single friend in the city of Jackson who claims to drink the tap water.

Anonymous said...

I see no legal basis for Judge Wingate to sanction Mayor Lumumba in some way for the Mayor addressing his constituents in a manner he believed was helpful. Judges can’t micro-manage the First Amendment rights of elected officials to speak to their people.

Now, having said this, Judge Wingate is extremely smart, so I’m sure he has thought of an angle to at least justify legally him dressing down the Mayor. I’m anxious to see what the Judge’s basis is.

Anonymous said...

Y’all just shut up! The Mayor is not to be Misunderstood!!!

Anonymous said...

Both 1:52 & 1:57 are correct.
The water leaving the plant is probably clean, but no telling what it’s like when it gets to homes. So he’s right in that sense. However, since the system is in federal receivership he had no business speaking on it period. He’s probably gonna claim some sort of “executive privilege “.
Like they say in Jurassic Park “hold on to your butts”

Anonymous said...

It would have been wise to just let UHC present them, but nooooo.. he has to be seen. Idiot.

Anonymous said...

Here’s how it will go…
Judge: “Ted is the man with the big dick. Keep your wee wee in your pants or else!”

Anonymous said...

“If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit.”
― W.C. Fields

Anonymous said...

Will he get a paddling?

Anonymous said...

The honorable Judge Wingate should demand that the Mayor apologize, publicly for misinforming the public and then place a well deserved gag order on him as pertaining to a Jackson system.

Anonymous said...

UHC = United Health Care. An insurance company.

In old age, I frequent a number of doctor's offices. In at least three of those waiting rooms are signs on the wall listing coverages they do not accept. These particular three list Medicaid and United Health Care.

Anonymous said...

Gumflapper should tell Wingate that he was speaking for the 1% Commission when he said that.

Anonymous said...

It’s borderline hysterical that the federal district judge is the only person in the Greater Jackson area who can rein this lying, deceitful dufus in. On another note, does the “vulnerable population” of “elderly or pregnant” include white elderly and pregnant citizens of Jackson? Something tells me that, as an elderly white grandparent of four, I won’t be extended a warm welcome in the free water filter pickup queue.

Anonymous said...

My God, he is so full of shit. I wish Judge Wingate would knock his teeth out with his gavel. Srsly is there a single soul buying anything that Antar the Clown is selling?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
