The People's Advocacy Institute issued the following statement.
We will have a Community Meeting, part of our continuing Community Conversations on Violence. Location TBD. Dinner will be served & childcare provided.
Violence remains one of the most difficult struggles facing our community. Traditional justice system responses often fail to meet the needs of those of us harmed by violence and locking up the person responsible often fails to address the trauma and pain of the experience. Time and time again we see our people coming home from prison worse than when they left. We still rely almost exclusively on prison to address violent crime, despite its limitations in meeting survivors’ needs and securing public safety.
We believe something else is possible.
PAI is launching a new restorative justice-based alternative to prison and victim service program. The project will bring together those responsible for crimes such as robbery and assault together with those they have harmed and their support people in a facilitated restorative justice dialogue to determine appropriate agreements to make things as right as possible and take the place of a prison sentence. This new program involves intensive violence intervention work with people who have caused harm, wraparound support for survivors and their loved ones, and engagement of system actors who play critical roles in the diversion of cases. We aim to meet the needs of people harmed by violence, prevent further harm, and improve the lives of people and communities impacted by violence.

More talking. It’s what Jackson does best. It’s also why things are the way they are
Stop having kids until you are financially and emotionally ready to take care of them. Beyond irresponsible.
Good grief. No mention whatsoever of the need for cultural change. Without that, everything else is just lip service.
So instead of sending violent criminals to prison for their crimes, we should put them in a room with their victims so they can victimize them again? That sounds exactly like something Jackson leadership would come up with.
Jackson is by far the per-capita homicide capital of the United States for the last two years.
The mayor's solution was to stop publishing crime-statistics, and his sister wants to end incarceration for violent criminals. Pure insanity.
Radical is as radical does. A progressive lib is a person who has never been the victim of a violent crime.
Are we going to address the cultural problems, fatherless homes, lack of discipline, etc? Or are we going to throw around buzzwords so the collective thinks something will be done. I wonder what the attendance will be from those out on bond for their crimes actually looking to do better for themselves and apologize to their victims? My bet is 0%.
Wait, I thought crime was down over 30%. No need for a crime summit, Jackson is on track to being the crossroads of the sunny south once again. Just the place for young professionals to buy a home and raise their children. LOL!
I can’t believe the Chief of Police was able to hold a press conference and present that report with a straight face or that no one from the press called BS immediately.
11:53 & 11:59 are right, until those issues are addressed nothing else anyone does will matter.
Restorative justice. Wraparound support.
Any update on the trash debacle?
Great! So we get to sing and hold hands too?
Because that works just as well as this crazy scheme.
Forgive those who trespass against us...
Only after they confess, make a true act of contrition and suffer for their transgression as prescribed by law.
What imbecile would put a rabid pit bull, especially after biting his/her children, back in their play area?
A very important step- we cannot continue to lock up offenders that can be redeemed & returned to the community to serve as interveners for others!
Since Rukia's credible messengers crap was such a failure, she's got to find her next useless scheme.
Probably one of the most dangerous places you can put yourself in is one of these STOP THE VIOLENCE get-togethers. Rival gang members cross paths with other rival gang members and it seems almost invariably someone gets knifed or shot.
11:53, you do understand that what you’re proposing is no longer possible thanks to a recent SCOTUS decision that originated here, right?
How are they gonna have a "community" wide program, 24hrs now, with free food, free childcare, etc. and they don't even know exactly WHERE they will have it?
This is textbook money laundering through whatever federal grant or program that pays for this crap, then no one shows up so the spare money is pocketed.
If Jackson is so safe, why does the mayor live behind a gate in NE Jackson? Where does his sister live?
Obviously Rukia has never been held at Gun point by one of these thugs. Once she has such an experience I bet she will change her tune,
We really don't send criminals to prison for their crimes.
We send criminals to prison to remove them from society.
And that, my friends is why America is in such a mess.
Although she could never understand, she did say one thing that will actually resonate with this community and insure participation; "Dinner will be served"
What is the point, and projected results, of this meeting?
4:51 The meeting IS the result. The community comes together. We must unite

Abandoned House TBD.
Jackson is lost. Those that voted for this, deserve what they will get.
Those that voted against this - you should have gotten out of Jackson earlier. The best you can do is get out now before it gets worse (and it will get worse).
Must have received one of those grants and need to have meetings to justify said grants. A great place to have this meeting is at her brother the Mayor house or hers.
Just pay all the people for their misdeeds
Rukia might give Sid Salter a run for his money…. E lots of words but not really say anything…. Lol
January 16, 2023 at 5:19 PM, what are you uniting behind, and what are you uniting against? Do you expect resistance at this meeting?
This is just a bunch of redundant touchy-feely bull s**t. To much fanfair JPD offered the same thing awhile back with their Conflict Resolution Class. I don’t know if the class is still offered…probably quietly discontinued due to non-participation.
Just another anti Capital Police meeting to get the citizens of Jacktown fired up!
Agenda: 1. We gots lots of crime. 2. We don’t gots lots of police. 3. When we do arrest someone, we lets them go the same day.
4. We don’t have a plan to stop crime. 5. Can we get the Biden administration to give us $600 million to reduce crime.
Will Rukia announce her candidacy at this event?
It will be interesting to see if any violent crime victims actually show up for this meeting. I certainly understand that forgiveness is a virtue, and something Christians are called upon to do, but this kind of artificial “reconciliation” isn’t a solution to the underlying issues of crime in Jackson. It seems to be more about calling attention to Rukia than making real progress on crime issues.
Oh, yeah, a “community meeting.” That’ll fix it. Community meetings have been so very effective in the past.
A "community organizer." Bless her heart.
Wonder if this has anything to do with the grant UMMC is funneling to Rukia?
Someone explain this mentality to me.
So they honestly believe this will work, or do they just want to finish destroying what's left of Jackson for whatever reason they have.
Anyone with an ounce of sense knows this is stupid.
And why is Chockwe so hell-bent on destroying Jackson? What's in it for him?
6:50 They are uniting in an effort to fight the forces that would divide us. Bring the community together and schedule another conference.
You can have all oft the meetings you want but until you hold people accountable for their actions its a total waste of time, money and energy. Everyone reading this article knows what the problem is and most likely have the same thoughts as I do. The people putting this meeting together are either totally oblivious to the situation or just ignorant. Until young men decide to be fathers and young women quit having babies to just get a check nothing will change. These so called community organizers need to go to the homes of these people instead of standing in the streets singing woe is me and looking for someone to blame. It's not the fault of the police that are being killed in the line of duty at record numbers it your judges and your prosecutors.
Don't try to bring me into the room with the criminal that committed a crime against me for some love fest. The only room I want to be in with the criminal is the courtroom.
To the folks at PAI we already have an alternative to prison its called catch and release and it aint working!
I challenge all of you reading this article to take time and talk with veteran law enforcement officer about the bullshit they deal with on a daily basis and the people they encounter over and over and over again because of the worthless judges and prosecutors that we have in this state.
8:34 fixing Jackson is not and never has been the goal of this bunch.
They simply want Uncle Sugar to keep giving them grant money for all the feel good BS that keeps them paid.
Chuckles will take his throne/appointment in DC soon so he could not care less what happens in Jackson and his career trajectory is not affected by the horrors there. Meritocracy is irrelevant among the racist liberals.
@ 2:57 PM -- 11:53 AM said "stop having kids", not "stop terminating pregnancies". The trick here, is to NOT get pregnant to begin with. Using abortion as birth control is one of the most morally corrupt practices in the world today.
If Rukia was an experienced "community organizer" this meeting would be held in Paris, with all expenses paid through "grants." However, is she is so concerned about equitity and all of that other racist woke shit, she would hold the meeting in Nigeria or Somalia. Right?
I have no problem with the residents of Jackson further destroying their pathetic town. Having said that this soft-on-crime BS is also endangering the surrounding communities. Can the state pass some sort of legislation to get this under control ?
Hear, Hear 12:42.
Isn't time for the grown ups to at least pass some sort of legislation that protects the suburbs from the lawlessness in the City?
Maybe we can hold Rukia or the useless Judges fiscally liable for any (felon released on bond for other crimes) who "stays" in Jackson but is caught committing another crime in the burbs?
Nothing in the announcement about when or where this love fest supposed to take place…WTF?!
