State Auditor: Inflation Costs State Bigly

State Auditor Shad White issued the following statement.

From fuel and electricity to food and asphalt, taxpayers are paying more for almost everything government agencies in Mississippi purchase. This finding comes from a report released today by State Auditor Shad White’s office showing some of the costs taxpayers will bear after inflation increased the cost of items government agencies purchase. The purpose of this report is to alert policymakers to the cost of inflation on government spending and to help public officials more effectively plan future budgets by anticipating these costs.

“Families are hurting from inflation every time they visit the gas station or grocery store,” said Auditor White. “Taxpayers need to know that the money they’ve given to the government won’t go as far, too. I hope this report will help budget writers anticipate where their costs will be higher in coming months.”

Highlights from the report include:

•      Increased fuel prices have cost the Mississippi Department of Public Safety up to $750,000 in 2022. Law enforcement agencies may be forced to cut patrols in the future if gas prices remain high.

•      As roadbuilding supplies like asphalt and drainage pipes become more expensive, the Mississippi Department of Transportation may not be able to complete all its scheduled projects at their original budgeted costs.

•      With electricity prices spiking, the cost for the Mississippi Department of Corrections to house inmates has increased dramatically.

•      Taxpayers will foot the bill for meal programs in schools and prisons as food prices rise.

This guy is a bit much…..he needs to run a number crunching think tank, not the Auditors Office.

Breaking news... the state auditor's office has discovered that higher costs means that things cost more. Good work Shad!

Political season is upon us….Shad’s got that new grill polished up and the skinny jeans pressed. Oh, and he’s “watching”.

DPS would save on gas if they drove the speed limit unless responding to a call. Driving SUVs and full size sedans 85 MPH everywhere costs a fortune. If Shad wants to actually do some work he can reconcile the GPS logged travel speed of LE state vehicles with call responses.

This upcoming election I hope the voters flush out Phil’s cronies!

Any thing to keep the spotlight off you know who!!!

Uhhh…. Captain Obvious! I hope we (taxpayers) didn’t pay anything for this dumbass report .

Did he miss the latest figures from The Federal Reserve?
Did he not do a review of inflation history?
Stats are meaningless for prediction without context.
I expect a drunk wino on the street could tell you costs have been higher. Some things have cost more.
Gas has come down as have some other consumer costs.
And Shad apparently didn't learn that economics is " bigly" complex and actions don't result in immediate reactions or can't be adversely affected by giving...oh pharma and corporations a "license" to steal or insurance doing the same while even taking away your FREEDOM to select your doctor.
Life ain't simple. Get real!

Seriously, what is in this six page report that we have not read for the last year?

Shad and cowboy Andy are the most shameless self promoters running for a higher office (not yet named)

What does it all mean for a state whose governor is proposing to eliminate a source of state revenue, the income tax? Is inflation a factor?

Families may be hurting at the gas pump, but the best place to measure the economy is at Walmart. And they ain't hurting there. As for gas prices, they are lower in MS than anywhere in the U.S. and close to where they were a couple of years ago.

Look out, Canton taxpayers. Inflation means that the people running CMU will need to steal even MORE of your tax dollars just to fund their menthol/Colt 45 habit.

Shad trying to stay relevant.

Wait….so you’re saying that everything is more expensive and that means the state has to pay more for those things. Got it. Whew! I’m glad he got that fancy Ivy League education! Where would we be without him?

Well no shit - Shadwick!!

How much did the report on the obvious cost us?

Anonymous said...

But the big question is: has the price of donuts increased?

Anonymous said...

What a fucking waste of taxpayer money to prep a report that says what we all know. Things are more expensive because of inflation. Politicians are experts at wasting money to pretend to be doing something productive.

Toy Soldier Shad plays with Monopoly money when it comes to these "reports."

Somebody needs to convince Shad to consult for JPD. With this level of genius detective work, I bet he could solve the murder backlog in a weekend.

Everyone must have missed those critical information sources cited int he footnotes of this report such as "WLBT Reporting" or "Clarion Ledger reporting" -- not to mention "Previous Report of the Auditor." What a self-absorbed, self-promoting statewide office holder. So GLAD to clarified that when there is inflation, it costs more for State agencies to operate. That one had gotten past me completely.

Shad is like a waterspout in the Gulf. He gets some attention and pictures are taken but he never does any meaningful damage.

I thought he was preoccupied with his claims of 'Brain Drain', a theory which has zero data backup. Zero. No agency tabulates that information. No college has such a data base. But, in Shad's world, speculation equals fact.

And at least one Supertalk host wants to be appointed to a group-therapy committee to discuss the theory. Especially if an open mic is involved.

@ 12/20 4:13

Looks like you actually read the report, though. That's rich.

I'm sure Shad cares deeply about your critique.

In other news, water is wet and not all tools build or fix things.

Things cost more and the state has more needs than they can count, yet we want to eliminate state income tax. If the state needs a list of needs to apply income tax money let us all know. I suspect you will get a pretty good and meaningful list!!.

Just My Thoughts!!!

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
