The Metrocenter Angel might be cast into a good ole Mississippi prison. Jefferson County prosecutors filed a motion to show cause against Emily Seifert-Sanders Tuesday in Jefferson County Circuit Court after she failed to pay the majority of her restitution in her fraud conviction ten years ago. Adams County deputies arrested her after the motion was filed.
A Jefferson County jury convicted Emily Sanders of two counts false pretenses in 2012. Circuit Judge Lamar Pickard sentenced her to serve ten years in prison consecutively but the second ten years was to be suspended if she repaid $130,000 to the victim.
The verdict states she "fraudulently" represented to Dudley Guice that she had an agreement with Moran Foods to open a Save-A-Lot grocery store in Fayette. Guice invested $130,000 with Sanders but she never opened the grocery store. She was granted parole in 2014 and is currently on probation.
The motion states:
3. The defendant has failed to comply with the sentencing order. As of this date, the majority of the restitution has not been paid and the defendant has been released from prison.
4. In pertinent part, Mississippi Code Annotated Section 99-37-7(1) states: “when a defendant sentenced … to make restitution defaults in the payment … the district attorney may issue a show cause citation or a warrant of arrest for his appearance.”
5. Subsection (2) of the aforementioned statute states: “ . . . unless the defendant shows that his default was not attributable to an intentional refusal to obey the order of the "court . . . the court may find that his default constitutes contempt and may order him committed until . . . the restitution part thereof is paid."
Sanders only paid $24,350 of the $130,419 restitution. The balance is $106,069. The payment records are posted below.
A hearing will be held Monday at 9:00 AM before Circuit Judge Tomika Irving. Assistant District Attorney Patrick Beasley is prosecuting the case.
Sanders and her husband bilked at least one investor in Illinois. The Illinois Secretary of State barred her from selling securities or soliciting investments in 2007.
The defendant created quite a stir in the Jackson metro area two years ago when she announced on Facebook that she purchased the dilapidated Metrocenter Mall.

What was the rush?
Con artists and pipe dreams live forever in the Land of Lumumba.
Sure hope the company that bought the tax liens has a plan....the annual taxes for all the tax parcels on the portion of the mall she owned was close to a 100K, give or take.
She used the money to grease some Jackson City Hall palms related to the Metro Center. Right?
I'm reminded of my profound disappointment that we will never have a ferris wheel at the Metrocenter, which is what she promised among other things.
And all the people who critiqued her business plan were all called racists.
one question , How much vodka is in the yeti cup she is strutting around the mall with ?
Was that the relatively small grocery store that is abandoned on the side of Highway 61?
Kingfish- what makes you think she was fronting for anyone?
My surprised face.
American Greed should set up an office and studio in MS to catch all of our stupid criminals as their escapades develop.
Where are all of the people that said anyone questioning her motive or methods is a racist?
I think this is the same woman who has been seen in Oxford and StarkVegas convincing boys to join the portal, promising them riches for small up-front investments.
@11:06 AM, don't you mean how much cognac is in that yeti cup?
She was just trying to Save-A-Lot.
1:47 Those people are right here. Bloggers like yourself pushing a theme. Only a very small number of very small minded people weren't skeptical of this lady. Most people, especially black folk never fathomed how she could "buy" the Metrocenter. Find another angle.
@1:47pm Those people are now flooding FB demanding to know when Bryant and Favre are going to get locked up. Classic Democrat race card deflection. There's no satisfying them.
Darn! I wanted to live in a Metro Center condo.
So does this mean we won't get to ride the Ferris wheel?
Like the poster above, you should see my shocked face. Everyone except "the community" knew this was a fleecing of some sort.
I heard McRae's was going to re-open a store at Metro when Ms Sanders got this deal rolling.
I am very disappointed, I have a pair of shoes I need to return.
Con artist for sure! They are a dime a dozen in the Jackson area!
6:29 Just the opposite. Jackson is full of violent criminals not true con artists. Con artists are like the apache warriors: When you don't see them you know they're around.
Having watched this woman on the news over several years and having read her comments and having seen videos of her...I just refuse to believe she is intelligent enough to pull any rip-off valued over $29.95.
She doesn't sound or look smart enough to deceive people. Must be a hidden talent. I bet she'll be conning the cafeteria folks out of extra peanut butter cookies down at the Pearl prison chow line.
Who's conning who? LOL Read a little about the plaintiff. No honor among thieves I guess.
7:46 - Did you expect there would be?
I was hoping to drive some indoor go-karts when the mall reopened. :|
That mugshot is nightmare fuel.
6:50 - Most of us have learned to avoid things that trigger us. Or at least we drink heavily when triggered.
