Suspect struck deputy with car
Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey issued the following statement.
On Tuesday, December 6, 2022, a deputy with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Team identified a newer model Ford Bronco stolen out of Georgia traveling on I-20. The deputy activated his blue lights and was able to get the vehicle to pull over. As the deputy got to the car and asked the driver for his identification, the suspect drove off, striking the officer as he pulled away.
The officer returned to his vehicle and pursued the suspect until later backing off for public safety as the suspect started driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of traffic on I-20. Members of the Puckett Police Department soon spotted the vehicle on Highway 13 before continuing eastbound on Highway 18 into Smith County. Puckett PD along with members of the Smith County Sheriff’s Office were able to get the vehicle stopped and take the suspect into custody on Highway 18 near Raleigh.
The suspect, identified as TIMOTHY BENTON, was transported to the Rankin County jail where he is facing multiple charges including assault on a law enforcement officer, felony fleeing and possession of stolen property. BENTON is also facing charges out of Georgia. Rankin County District Attorney Bubba Bramlett will bring BENTON before Rankin County Court Judge David Morrow for an initial appearance. Sheriff Bryan Bailey would like to thank all the supporting law enforcement agencies that helped bring this individual to justice. This could not have been done without their assistance.

welcome to the Hospitality State, Mr. Benton.
Too bad this did not happen in Jakcson. He would have been home for Christmas.
Dang I wish he would have put up more resistance and received a proper welcome to our state.
Aren't all law enforcement officers member of a 'criminal interdiction team'?
This was the biggest thing to happen in Puckett since Bubba shot the stop-sign.
Add five years to the sentence for the red hair.
Dude should have made sure he was in Hinds "the county of blessings" county before he got stupid...
Better ask Atlanta to forward his Christmas cards here until further notice.
His momma should have taught him that, If you play with sh*t, you will get it on you."
out of state criminal; didn't know about the free pass county across the river!
do we need to update google;
" Environmental justice ..?"
Have no fear. Blessings will abound at the Rankin Jail. (And yes, the food is pretty good.)
Did some cop punch him in the mouth?
Why the hell don't the police slap a GPS tracker on the back of the car as they walk up on it. They run off and they track it on their phone. Whar is so hard about that...
Rankin Co popo aint got s*** on Smith Co popo.
They should’ve just let him go! As liberals would say “ insurance will pay for it!”
Rankin will make sure he gets some equity.
