It was only a matter of time before this meme popped up in Jackson.
Lumumba said one contributing factor for Richard’s challenges so far is the fact that the city hasn’t maintained its routes, leaving the new company to try and determine them on their own.
“We have not kept that in our database,” he said. “I would imagine that having a service provider collect for over 30 years made it to where it wasn’t front and center in our minds to maintain that information.”
Well, the Mayor is somewhat right in his explanation. There is simply not much information about garbage collection on the city website. However, Jackson used to post the routes on the same website.
Check out the June 15, 2017 version of the same webpage. It has all sorts of groovy information on the page that is quite useful, including a link to the routes at the top of the page. Click on it. The information was published on the city website until 2020. Thanks to a reader for this tip.

I always wondered what his day job is.
The lack of routes is all about the magic words, "change order". The mayor is working to set up a nice change order for RDI since they have realized they underbid the contract.
I thought Richard said at one of the council meetings that his supervisors were here in Jackson driving all the streets to determine routes, etc. That was in February, I think--when he appeared at the City Council meeting. Hmmm.......
facts don’t matter in politics. what matters is what your supporters believe.
Picked up mine around six last night. So far its been 5, 4, 6.
After the first few years Richard's will have collected a lot of valuable information about Jackosn's trash. In the meantime there's change orders!
It's all about getting the contract. Whatever it takes. Get the contract then worry about whether you can do the job effectively. If you have the right support you can make changes as you go. Just get the contract. Right?
So it’s official now? Mayor Lumumba and Richards have won?
+1 Lumumba
-1 Stokes, Foote, WM, and Kingfish (you weren’t impartial at all)
I would just like to bathe in the I-told-you-so moment as one of the folks who predicted this exact outcome in the 1st trash article.
I knew Mumbles would get his way.
Isn't the City Council going to appeal to the Mississippi Supreme Court? (Kingfish, that's what you predicted in your note from your story from April 10, "Trash Talk: Chancellor Issues 'Final' Judgment".) An appeal seems reasonable after Judge Dickinson left the whole situation in such a confusing mess.
His wife has always pretty much made the living while Kenneth was a busy doing civil rights to further his race.
@11:04 = Easily amused with himself
Kenny for Mayor.
The Mayor has no authority to enter into a contract. There is nothing hard about that. It’s straight forward.

Still got Appeals to go through.
It's good to be King.
Is the City going to appeal or what?
Doing the work and getting paid are two different issues.
Will be interesting to see if council balks at approving the claims docket.
Oh the the lies, the incompetence and arrogance... where does it end?
So, the professionals at Waste Management established their effective routes, and they're supposed to turn them over to their replacement? Not their problem. That's Richard's boss / the City's responsibility! And Waste Management is supposed to change the hours of their dump facility because their replacement can't get their job done on time? No.
Groovy?
The city council has to approve the payments. I don’t see that happening. A Company like WM that has taken care of the city for a very long time never should have been pushed out.
Please call both if your trash is not being picked up.
