No-Show Palazzo

Correction: Post originally said Congressman ranked fifth among Republican members.

Congressman Steve Palazzo is earning his nickname of "No-Show Palazzo" as he voted by proxy no less than 66 times in the 117th Congress, highest among all Mississippi Congressmen and twentieth among Republican members.

The Ripon Society, a Republican centrist good-gummint organization, scoured 438 votes where proxy voting was allowed to determine how often Representatives allowed someone else to vote for in their stead.  Report.

The House of Representatives authorized proxy voting in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  It will expire on March 30 unless Speaker Nancy Pelosi extends it for another 45 days.

Ripon reported Democrats cast 72% of all proxy votes while  Republicans cast 28% of said votes.  The average Democrat voted by proxy 55 times while the average Republican voted by proxy 22 times.  78 Republicans and 23 Democrats refused to vote by proxy.

Congressmen Michael Guest and Trent Kelly did not vote by proxy.  Congressman Bennie Thompson exercised the proxy vote 47 times.  Congressman Steven Pallazo voted by proxy 66 times, 20th among Republicans.

Congressman Guest said he did not believe in voting by proxy.  It said Congress was better served by members handling legislation and negotiating face to face.

Kingfish note: The proxy practice should end.  The public is better served by members voting in person.  Some are even promoting remote voting.  Such voting places more power in the hands of the leadership and the staff.  Debate is better served when the members are physically present.  Absentee voting also hurts the negotiating that is fundamental to representative government.  Members are more likely to be candid and negotiate in good faith face to face than they will be over the phone where the constant threat of the call recorder hovers over the conversation, right Newt?

That's probably a pretty good indication that it's time for Palazzo to be shown the door.

I think, like most jobs, showing up is the LEAST that can be expected of our representatives unless there are extenuating circumstances. If they can’t be bothered to show up, they need to resign (or be voted out).

Anybody but that empty suit Brice Wiggins. Mississippi does not need another RINO blowhard in Congress.

Palazzo has been a pretty worthless member of Congress, but he’ll probably win again. His opponents aren’t on tv and probably not willing to attack him for the issues that matter to primary voters. The clock is ticking on them.

I think proxy voting could be a good tool, if not abused. Of course, some people abuse everything they can get their hands on.

Meh. This is nothing. Read the report. Frederica Wilson's proxy vote record is amazing.

I know Brice Wiggins professionally. He's a straight shooter from all accounts. I did not envision him getting into politics but believe he would do well in Congress.
The 4th district race will be a doozy. Watch out for Mike Ezell, Jackson County sheriff. He is a fine man, works hard and understands how to work well with people. He may surprise folks and make the run-off.
What's the beef with Wiggins?

Kingfish, where do you get that he is ranked 6th among Republicans? The list on your post has around 20 Republicans with more proxy votes than Palazzo.

Michael Guest Proxy Votes: Zero.

Congressman Bobby Rush! I haven't heard that name since the 60s when he co-founded the Black Panthers.

Palazzo is too busy enjoying that bacon-wrapped shrimp at the Washington lobbyists' parties.

The Jackson County Sheriff is running against him and has brought up issues about Palazzo.

Clay Wagner is the Best candidate in that race. Retired Banker and very active in Community involvement!

Mike Ezell and Clay Wagner would both be good Congressmen

Agree w/ 11:53.

Wiggins has so many Democrats and "progressives" backing his candidacy he should have entered the Democratic primary.

Gilbert Hosemann loves him because he's a left-leaning centrist, not a conservative Republican.

Put him in a dog collar match against JYD, refereed by the “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes.

Brice is a strong conservative voice and vote in the Mississippi State Senate!

We re-elect them over and over so they have every right to be ineffective.

Its our own fault.

We create these monsters.

Same moron that said if 65 passed Mississippi would become the marijuana capital of America.

How about Frederica? He/she/it wins the prize

Preach.

Let’s face it the whole fu.ked up lot of them couldn’t give a rats ass what the public actually wants. For some reason Americans can’t bring themselves to flush the toilet on these losers and we as a nation die a little more each time we vote them right back into office.

Digesting the report, voting via proxy is a low-rent, bad, and Democrat thing to do.

Brice Wiggins has broad support from many groups of people and can win if he can make the runoff.

12:42 Right On! Bobby the Commie, only person to defeat Barry Obama in an election, admired Castro, a district map with a doughnut hole.

Gerard always introduces Wiggins as 'My good friend Brice Wiggins', so he must be an OK fellow. But then, everybody is Gerard's 'good friend', upon introduction on the radio show. He's running, too, but can't decide what 'fer'.

How is a proxy vote recorded?

How does the system know to allow a vote by proxy?

1:41 : JYD and Rhodes have passed on.

@12:17 PM
My comment came from a hypothetical standpoint. Google the word “hypothetical” then come back and tell me if it matters that JYD and Rhodes are deceased.

Education is free.
The hustle is sold separately.

Palazzo means "palace" in Italian. Maybe he concludes that he is royalty and doesn't have to sit with the unwashed masses on the House floor.

Having been to the the Capitol building in DC back in 2008. I can attest that it smells like 200 years of powerful body odor that permeates from every surface, including the well worn stone staircases.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
