The city of Jackson issued the following statement.
The City of Jackson’s public transportation system, JTRAN, will reduce bus services beginning Monday due to a worker shortage.
This service reduction will allow JTRAN to maintain reliable service on fixed route and paratransit systems. Service will be restored as soon as worker availability improves.
Please take note of the following updated times and route schedules.
JTRAN, beginning Monday, Jan. 17, will operate on a Saturday schedule from Monday through Saturday. The service will operate from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for fixed routes and paratransit. The new schedule will be in effect until at least Feb. 12.
Residents who use JTRAN are advised to check “rider alert” notifications for updates on available bus routes.
Updated information on routes can be found at the following link: https://www.jacksonms.

I wasn't aware that anyone uses JTRAN
How many people ride the bus every day? Is that data available?
Does anyone know ridership figures for JATRAN? My guess is that maybe only a few folks will be inconvenienced daily.
Jackson still has a bus system?
That’s a lot of routes for such a small city.
Per the public transit audits, over 1100 rode jtran last year. That’s most of the population
A feel good Democrat service which costs Republican taxpayers in Jackson hundreds of thousands annually..Republicans pay, Democrats ride free.
" paratransit systems"
I have no clue what a paratransit system is, but I'm sure such a phrase will impress many of the Mayor's constituency.
What the hell is a JTRAN?
Kidding. But in all seriousness I would have no idea how to utilize this if I wanted to
Baby Chowke ran out of relatives to hire?
What a joke our capital city is. Sad.
Ohhhh nooooooo !!!!
Yes. When I leave my street to go to work, there are several waiting to ride.
1,100 total used in a year?
Amazing the ignorant readers that don’t understand the need for public transportation. It’s disgusting!
What about a shortage of riders. Of the last 10 buses I've seen in Belhaven, only 2 had a rider -- one rider each.
A van service would be better. Call ahead by one day and get on the schedule.
Last time I rode Jatran was from MetroCenter to the Zoo back in the 80’s.
But, have you seen those new paint jobs on these buses. Man, they put the orange cop cars to shame.
"I have no clue what a paratransit system is, but I'm sure such a phrase will impress many of the Mayor's constituency."
Paratransit system is short for Area Parasite Passenger Hauling.
Give those 1100 riders vouchers for Uber and be done with JATRAN
@9:57. I agree with you. And to call people who use public transportation "democrats" is disgusting, too. "Democrats" is just a code word for Black people. It is racist in tone and intent. Pathetic.
Let us assume those 1100 riders used Jatran to get to work.
Divide that 1100 by 50 weeks, and you get 22 people a day using JTRAN
7:29 - why did you leave out 'accurate'. If you're going to get all boot-lipped and angry, at least be complete in your remarks.
Attn 9 25 your numbers are wrong. That should be 4 riders a day, or 22 riders a week. Also, you have to figure they ride to and from work, so that means 2 people riding the bus round trip each day.
The next question to ask is how much JATRANS receives from passenger fees, & then compare that with how much money it takes to operate the bus system. I believe the U.S. Dept. of Transportation subsidizes the cost of new buses, but still, JATRANS no doubt has a huge deficit. Where's the cost - benefit analysis? Not that it's ever consideration for government.
Just be thankful the buses are not plastered with images of Joe, Bennie, Barack and local mayors. The people-haul-vans up in the delta ARE.
Someone said Jatran is coming out with a model that's 3 times as wide across the back in order to accommodate an image of Kennuff.
Once again, the readers of this blog continue to show their ignorance. One idiot posts "1,100 riders" and several other idiots jump on that figure as gospel. Heaven forbid the original poster stop and think about how ludicrous that figure is.
The actual ridership figures for 2020 are 457,188.
Read it and weep, morons:

6:17….absolutely, or approximately 1100 PER DAY…
@6:17 PM - you are the moron. That 1,100 was a daily estimate, not annually. Using 457,188 would be an average of 1,270/day. Some days would be less than 1,100. Read it and weep.
Uber can’t carry Jatran’s jockstrap
9:19 - Well at least you can divide properly but you sure can't write a coherent sentence. Apparently you don't know what "per year" means as in your previous comment: "Per the public transit audits, over 1100 rode jtran last year." Thanks for playing.
Attn 8:13 when someone mentioned over 1100 people road JTRAN last year, he or she was absolutely correct. 457,188 people are in fact more than 1100 people.
@8:13AM
You’ve already established the person with “you.”
No need to repeat it.
Your incoherent sentence should read, “You can divide properly but can’t write a coherent sentence.”
Also, thanks for playing.
The real ignorance, here, is displayed by referring to a large group as 'morons' when the one making that statement knows nobody in the group. Morons is a pejorative term (not that the writer will know what that means) and has no place in a civil discussion.
Meanwhile, I've never been inside a Jatran vehicle and am wondering if it's like one of those glass-bottom boats I used to board during Florida vacations.
Agree wholeheartedly with 9:57 pm. Public transportation is essential and a lifeline for people who depend on it. There’s always plenty of bigotry to go around on JJ, but it’s especially toxic on an issue like this one. I’ll prob be censored.
See 2:03 for one of the most appalling, offensive comments ever.
I think public transportation is useful/necessary.
I also think expecting our leaders to prove they are being good stewards of the resources we working stiffs afford them, is useful/necessary.
And I think playing the race-card to prevent even the mere discussions regarding JTran efficiency and usage justification is the most useless/unnecessary and over-used retort possible.
I travel I-55 several days a week and have NEVER seen more than three passengers, more often than not, one passenger. Why are 50 passenger buses needed to transport a maximum of three persons anywhere???
9:57 PM
The overwhelming vast majority own or at least lease cars. The people I see waiting at JTRAN stops don't look like they have a penny to their name, much less rent a house. And even less likely than that to own property.
JATRAN uses hand-me-down busses. When I was commuting from Clinton before I left Hinds county I did see one bus that was originally from New Orleans. Had the back sticker scraped off but still had the adhesive left over so you could make out the old logo.
It is really sad how people piss on the poor when they are an emergency surgery away from being in the same situation. My problem with JATRAN is the complete lack of routes for the city. Because there were times when I would have ridden it, if it could have reasonably reached all parts of the city. However, we know that will never be the case.
Be thankful that there is JATRAN or the city would be worse.
