Governor Tate Reeves issued the following statement.
Governor
Tate Reeves today announced the appointment of Jeffery Belk as Chairman
of the State Parole Board effective January 1, 2022. Belk will replace
Steven Pickett who retired on December 31, 2021.
"Jeffery's experience in both the public and private sector makes him a
prime candidate to serve as Chairman of the State Parole Board,” said
Governor Tate Reeves. “I look forward to seeing Jeffery’s efficient and
effective management of the Board and thank him for stepping up to serve
Mississippians.”
Prior to Belk's appointment to the State Parole Board, he retired from
Chevron as Project Procurement Manager and currently works on various
projects as a consultant. Belk has served as Vice Chairman of the
Personal Service Contract Review Board and Chairman of the Public
Procurement Board. He is actively involved in the community as a member
and past President of the Singing River Hospital System Board of
Trustees, and member of the Chevron Federal Credit Union Advisory
Council. Jeffery is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi
where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Business Administration in
marketing. Additionally, he achieved a Certificate in Supply Chain
Management from Arizona State University.

Lots of criminal justice experience....or maybe not.
Member of Singing River Board of Trustees. Ha. Same group that said oops, yalls pension is gone. No sure what happened. Sorry! He should be great as chief of parole decisions. The whole Singing River board should be under the prison.
No telling what the county supervisors and the hospital board donated to state political candidates to stay out of the cross hairs on the singing river pension fiasco. This is Mississippi justice at its finest.
Can you say tit for tat? Or tit for Tate?
Coastal voters, wake up.
I hope he considers victims of crimes more than he considers potential employers.
Wow
This guy is definitely qualified, just not for Chairman of the Parole Board. Is this one of Phil Bryant's cronies?
President of Singing River Board of Trustees. Ask any former employee of Singing River about their pension and you'll conclude the board of trustees should be under the jail.
Jeffrey Belk is a great appointment by Gov. Reeves. Belk has been part of the clean-up at Singing River, so he has earned our thanks for working to improve what was a very bad situation. Singing River Hospital is now doing much better, continues to improve and serve Jackson County, and Belk has been a large part of the solution.
Knowing what I do of the previous regime, I suspect that Belk is entering similar territory at the Parole Board. Taxpayers can only hope that he's able to restore the Parole Board to its pre-Pheeellll status.
Kingfish, this is one to keep an eye on.
At least it wasn't Crisler.
I am skeptical of all MS political appointments, but I hope he proves 10:50 right.
