The Justice Department issued the following statement.
U.S. Attorney Darren J. LaMarca and Special Agent in Charge Jermicha Fomby of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Jackson Field Office announce regional support for the FBI’s Violent Gun Reduction and Interdiction Program (VGRIP) employed to combat the increase in violent crime in the City of Jackson.
According to the Jackson Field Office of the FBI, local law enforcement with a presence in the tri-county area have agreed to devote officers to the effort of VGRIP. These additional officers will supplement the work of the Jackson Police Department (JPD) and assist JPD in the investigation of violent crimes occurring in the City with a view toward prosecution in federal court. Those local law enforcement agencies committed to assisting are Byram Police Department, Reservoir Patrol, Simpson County Sheriff’s office, Hinds County Sheriff’s office, Madison Police Department, Rankin County Sheriff’s office, Ridgeland Police Department, Alcohol Beverage Control of the Mississippi Department of Revenue, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, and Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. More local law enforcement agencies are anticipated to join in this effort.
United States Attorney Darren LaMarca stated: “The additional manpower these metro area law enforcement agencies bring to VGRIP cannot be overstated. The residents of Jackson and its surrounding communities will benefit from this support. We at the United States Attorney’s office will prosecute those cases brought to us by VGRIP to deter, punish and prevent the next act of violence.”

Pretty much everybody but Clinton. I guess that wall is coming along.
Shock-way will resist the effort. This is "Our" city.
This is good news for Jackson. More feet on the street, and Federal Court treatment should deter catch and release. Lead, follow, or get out of the way.
Apparently Chokwe is furious with this plan it seems those around him said he’s currently trying to fight this and only wants JPD to work Jackson and no community surrounding the city should be involved. He’s also resisting the feds but still wants to accept the grant money but wants to control the lineup rather than them
When did LaMarca become US Attorney instead of Acting US Attorney?
Did Biden appoint him and was he confirmed by the senate?
This begs the question: Why would the mayor resist all efforts at outside interference? Is it ideological, or is it a more practical concern, such as he wants retain control over where JPD turns a blind eye??
12:48, do your own research and let us know what you find out, including your sources of information.
Well,
I’m not surprised. Chokwe is pushing his interventions feather than arrests for criminal activity. Wants jobs for them rather than jail. Heard he completely ignored the 60-80 rounds fired with AK-47s on Normandy Dr the other day. He’s so far removed from the reality I am not sure he knows we’re on the same planet.
It may be interesting to watch what happens if a JPD SUV rolls up on someone in Rankin County for "suspicious activity." I might have to get a lawn chair and some popcorn.
No doubt Antar is opposed to the effort because it could take some of his dope boys off the street.
In all my years of growing up around firearms and learning to respect them I’ve never considered them violent guns! This is one of the problems with the FBI today. Woke members never really believe that the murdering killer could actually be the problem. It’s all those violent guns! Here’s a novel idea take the criminals and throw them in jail for life. I imagine those violent guns will never kill again if we don’t have a psychotic killer pulling the trigger!
KF ? Something wrong with comedy gold ?
Good catch by 2:43pm:
In DC there must be career propagandist weasels devising anagrams and operational names with indoctrination value, like "VGRIP" for 'Violent Gun Reduction and Interdiction Program'. Better if it were "IGRIP" for 'Illegal Gun Reduction...'
Where does it say that Lumumba has voiced opposition to VGRIP specifically?

Well just because you "respect" guns doesn't mean everyone else that loves them does!? These idiots see them as ways to settle personal disputes and get money in times of desperation. One idiot goes and kills someone, they go off to jail, another idiot just steps up in their place with the same stupid mentality.
Jackson turned down fed help when Mike Hurst offered to bring Operation Legend to Jackson. Let Chockway and the city get the crime it votes for.
3:56, that’s not the same thing as VGRIP, and you know it.
Also, what do you mean that Hurst’s operation was “turned down?” I remember him making this big public speech hoopla over all the arrests he made. I’m not conceding that Hurst’s operations were relevant (to be clear, they’re not), but it looks like your comment is based on a false premise.
4:59 PM
Please explain then because I rememember Feds sweeping Jackson and crime went quiet for about 2 to 3 weeks. It was turned down because the incorrect people appointed Hurst.
12:48 I was thinking the same thing. I never heard his name come up for conformation. My understanding he is the acting US Attorney.
Biden did not appoint him and he has not been confirmed by the senate. But sure enough, according to the official SDMS website, he is no longer “acting”.
Would appreciate if anyone could explain how this is possible.
And just like that @3:49 you blew right pass the point of the message and inserted a reason the FBI should know. That arresting violent psychotic killers instead of pushing the idea that guns are violent is why Americans live in fear. The firearm is nothing more than an inanimate object. The criminals that use them during the act of committing crimes are violent.
Don't expect the FBI (Famous But Incompetent) to be out "on patrol." They may do investigative work, conduct interviews, confer with their assigned AUSA (Asst. US Atty), file charges, take credit for what the locals do for their stats, but rarely will they get their hands dirty, nor even retrieve their dusty handcuffs from their briefcases. Then they will hold a press conference while patting themselves on the back.
Hey people Clinton is in Hunds County & praying this helps reduce catch & release. Should laws be changed or amended for people owning or possessing under 21 years of age since most crimes here in MS & metro appear to be that age group. Please clarify as just asking & praying for wisdom.
Would you rather have some anti-law enforcement Biden appointee?
Why isn't Madison County Sheriff Department supporting and assisting this effort?
Hey Kingfish, that’s just the partisan attitude this country needs more of! Congrats on being part of the solution and not the problem.
*rolls eyes
Once the US Attorney steps down, you have an Interim for a set period of time. If that lapses with no Prez-appointed US Attorney, the Interim becomes Acting. If after a certain time there is still no presidential appointee, the Judges in the District name an actual US Attorney and he or she remains in that spot until a Prez appoints one.
@1:12
Wondering the same thing.
He didn't 'step down'. He and all Repub appointees were told to pack a box. You might recall Clinton firing 100% with Repub baggage.
