MHP to Fight Jackson Crime

Governor Tate Reeves is holding a press conference on using the Mississippi Highway Patrol to fight Jackson crime.  The presser is live-streamed below.  This post will be updated as it progresses.

Governor Reeves said protecting citizens is government's basic function.  The Governor said DPS will increase its visibility in the Capitol complex.  He said he will do whatever it takes to keep downtown Jackson safe.  The complex covers extends from Jackson State University to the Capitol to UMC.

DPS Commissioner Sean Tyndall said new legislation allows MHP to help Jackson. MHP units will operate "saturation patrols" on all interstates and state highways in Jackson.   MHP issued 87 traffic tickets and made 14 DUI arrests since July 1 in Jackson.

The Commissioner discussed DPS manpower.  He said his goal is to have 600 Highway Patrolmen and 150 Capitol Police Officers.

Note: And of course, one Mr. Hardy Case just could not resist cussing out the Governor on Facebook in the comments section of the Governor's announcement:

You've been in statewide office since 2003 ---- you're a day late and a dollar short mtherfcker.

Here's an alternate headline:

The Nation of Jackson to be invaded by occupying forces of the state.

Anonymous said...

Will Antar make them all wear masks?

Anonymous said...

Lip Service for the masses. This does nothing about the actual trouble areas of the city. Also Capitol Police is where Police go to fatten their 13th check. Also, very interesting that no member of the city council was apart of this.

Anonymous said...

Also, this does nothing because if Jackson already doesn't have a jail, where are you going to put these people.

Anonymous said...

Just like I thought. No one was invited.

Kingfish said...

Depends. If they really work Hwy 80 and 51, that could help. That Cedars of Lebanon-Northside-Meadowbrook stretch is pretty rough.

Anonymous said...

2:34 Yes, Homeless white people walking around. This does nothing for the actuaal neighborhoods.

Anonymous said...

If they just work traffic patrol speeding etc, they would likely arrest half of Jackson. Nobody has a a valid license or insurance.

Anonymous said...

As this was announced a multi-jurisdictional force of Hinds, Rankin and Madison County law enforcement were investigating an incident on Dewitt Street off Bailey Avenue. Response with an overwhelming force is the key to reducing crime. It seems that JPS ride around in their cars and seldom get out to interact with citizens.

Anonymous said...

Receivership. Step Two.

Anonymous said...

2;34 ......cause all the black homeless folks make their bank downtown around the county , city and state offices. MHP will do very little to curb what's currently wrong in Jackson. We have 2 generations of kids both black and white who have ZERO give a fuggs about you me or anyone else.

Anonymous said...

So has anyone asked why the mayor and the city council clowns weren’t there?

Anonymous said...

If nothing else it will free up the few cops JPD has for those neighborhoods. Sounds like Lumumba hasn't agreed to any of this - not that it matters and not that he ever would.

Anonymous said...

By having the MHP and Capitol Police be able to ride rough shot over their jurisdiction which is the Ms. Hwys and Interstates that run thru the Capital and the Capital City improvement district (which they were not allowed to do before) will allow the depleted JPD to put more presence in the other areas instead of having to be in the above as much. that improvement area is pretty large. So i feel they fixing to kick some ass!

I grew up there. worst thing you had to worry about was getting stung by a bumblebee. The problems are intractable. It will never get better. And will get much worse. See SA. We are racing to the cliff.

Can’t get more than 8 people to vaccinate in MS…..

Tate turns to something he knows is popular….law and order!

Now let the MHP arrest some hoodlums in jacktown …take them downtown and watch them get processed and released

Nice photo op though…..he looks really cool up there

Anonymous said...

You better find a place to put people once arrested. That's the problem right now, no room at the inn.

Anonymous said...

"MHP units will operate "saturation patrols" on all interstates and state highways in Jackson. MHP issued 87 traffic tickets and made 14 DUI arrests since July 1 in Jackson."

and THAT's ^^^ no solution at all.
Passing our speeding tickets to us doesnt help fix the crime problem...but thats surely what they'll do.

Love seeing the cops sit under I55 jxn bridges during commute time...gotta make sure to nail the people who actually work and therefore can pay the ticket.

Follow the money.

Anonymous said...

Doubt they will arrest many. Just write a ticket and give the folks their blue toilet paper. You don't really think they'll show up in Justice Court as all MHP Tickets go through the Justice Court not Municipal.

Anonymous said...

They can arrest as many people as they want and it will not change a thing until the activist clown judges are replaced with people that think murder is not a misdemeanor.

Anonymous said...

how is the remainder of the state gonna be protected. There are roughly 600 Troopers state wide. Gonna bring them all to Jackson? what?

Krusatyr said...

Stop and Frisk can double down on Jackson shooters: take their illegal/stolen guns and arrest for felony possession.

No cop can intervene just in time to prevent hot headed homicide, but if a street savage is disarmed, unarmed, charged and either in jail or out on bond, the target of their wrath is safer.

So surprise these suspicious looking killers when they're carrying and strip their illegal/stolen pistols.

Personally I don't mind being wanded or patted down (usually at airports), especially if it deflates a cop's suspicions.

My goodness. My, my, my goodness.

Have we learned absolutely nothing about the leftist Democrat strategies?

Seriously; somebody please forward this post to the Governor.

Subjecting any White Mississippi Highway Patrol Officers to the risk of arresting black criminals is an absolute disaster waiting to happen; and everybody should know why.

There is absolutely no upside to making this move; and the downside risk is riots…and another George Floyd statue.

Anonymous said...

In a City of 20 Percent White want to guess what percent of Highway Patrol are Black and what percent of tickets are given to White people? 80/20 Rule must be in force here. Yes, to reduce crime, Black Highway Patrol are writing white people tickets. You can't make this up, unless I just did.

Anonymous said...

4:53 Stop and Frisk is an extremely easy way to catch a Civil Rights violation, especially since the Open Carry laws are so lax. Scale back open carry, and you can actually do that more. Until then, nada.

If the City of Jackson becomes “the ward of the state” do Baby Chok and “Big Stroke” keep their jobs?
I mean they should be fired for gross incompetence, right?

The MHP says every year that they are short staffed so how can they send men into help. There aren’t enough capital police to help much either.

Anonymous said...

This is nothing but a "WE CARE" publicity stunt to make it kook like the Gov. and the state care about Jackson's crime problems.

Anonymous said...

@6:21
MHP just added MDOT Law Enforcement to their roster by decree of the legislature and the very same governor.

Anonymous said...

Y’all are about to see, if you didn’t know already, that MHP isn’t in the business of real law enforcement. Tickets and wrecks aren’t going to help Jackson. If they get drugs they call MBN. MBN and Capitol Police can help but it’s the same judicial system. Unless of course MBN can get the cases to go federal. The problem is the judicial system and no jail space…. Carry on… nothing to see here.

Anonymous said...

MHP posturing to ask legislature for another "class" of troopers
That is all

Anonymous said...

The problem is not law enforcement. It is the mayor and derelict judges. Sadly, this will ultimately be futile window dressing.

I don't think you have any idea how the 13th check works, sport.

Anonymous said...

"The MHP says every year that they are short-staffed so how can they send men into help. There aren’t enough capital police to help much either."

Exactly!

Anonymous said...

So in other words, the state is sending help to only secure the section of town they have interest in. The rest of the city be damned. Just like drilling for well water at the fairgrounds when south Jxn is still on buckets. Oh, I got it.

Anonymous said...

This is ridiculous. I hope not one single penny of my tax dollars goes towards this. The best solution for Jackson is to move the state capital and let them just kill each other off. Other than lawyers and a few banks are there actually any businesses left in downtown anyway?

Kingfish said...

MHP is limited in jurisdiction. It's not a state police as in other states.

The Capitol police is limited to Capitol complex. It only arrested 20 people last year and half of those were at the fair. It arrested 6 in 2019. When you ask each agency why so few arrested, JPD and CP blame each other

Anonymous said...

David Archie was spot on re turning Metro Center into a jail, although his economic impact was somewhat skewed (bail bondsmen eating in area restaurants).
And JPD officers need to lay off the donuts. From the news videos, they couldn't outrun a turtle.

Anonymous said...

Capital Police covers JSU to 55 and to UMMC to the north.

Anonymous said...

1,000 extra LEOs won't help much if the progressive, bleeding-heart, racist, less-'em-loose Jackson judges won't perform their sworn duties.

Anonymous said...

I thought highway patrol had jurisdiction on any public road in Mississippi, at least that’s what I think statute says.

Anonymous said...

I’m not so sure that Chokwheat is going to like outside cops coming into his kingdom to harass his peeps. But it is a win-win situation for Reeves. He has let loose more police in the Jackson area to stop crime and the DPS will bring in revenue in the form of speeding tickets and DUI’s arrests. I kinda don’t understand just how having the MHP write more tickets and removing drinking drivers from the highway will reduce the violent crime that plague’s Jackson. Perhaps if enough tickets are written those that commit these crimes won’t be able to afford firearms. Yeah, that’s it.

Anonymous said...

Well I appreciate the governor for work with what he has to work with. Chockwe has avoided or refused help and we have got to do somethng. This is a start. Reclaim Jackson make people feel safe, work on the roads, and people will shop and come here again.

Anonymous said...

No mention of the unthankful press release from the mayor last night where he said more cops won’t solve the problem?

Anonymous said...

It's an interesting development. A little surprising, but it shouldn't be unexpected. The Gov had to do something. His hand was forced. MHP running radar inside the city limits will help, not much probably, but it will help. Giving the capitol police a real mission, beside security guard type work, will help as well. Having the CP deploy in numbers, inside the capitol district, could free JPD to work the outlining areas. IF it's coordinated properly. IF the HCSO is called in to assist as well, that will help. IF the feds could be dealt in this game, more will improve. IF all law enforcement works off the same arrest protocols, and has the same pursuit policies, this could actually work to improve life in Jackson.
That's a lot of IFs though.

Kingfish said...

If MHP aggressively works Hwy 80, that could help. There are probably quite a few people with warrants on that stretch. Roadblocks could help.

I was wrong about 51. Apparently Dale took it from the state when he was Mayor so Jackson is responsible for all of it within the city limits, including law enforcement.

Anonymous said...

Of course Antard had to release a sour grapes statement.

Kingfish said...

Don't worry.

Choke: The Governor is not addressing the root of the problem.

So mayor, what exactly is the "root of the problem?" and how should Tate make parents raise decent children with morals?

And why haven't you, as mayor, addressed this problematic "root" during your leadership?

Choke should just say, thank you.

@9:08 as always with the Mayor, big government is the answer to all that ails society. if only they could have more money for this failed experiment or the next thing the narrative pushes.

Why can't he just graciously accept the help and form a partnership with the State? We all benefit with a thriving capital- Jackson residents and MS residents.

Anonymous said...

I recon the governor should have sent in the department of mental health crises prevention SWAT team. Their crack team of conflict resolution professionals will have this sorted out in no time. Maybe this would be more to the sultan of Jackson's liking.

The mayaah will take a massive PR hit if it appears the white governor has help a black mayor in Mississippi.

"I kinda don’t understand just how having the MHP write more tickets and removing drinking drivers from the highway will reduce the violent crime that plague’s Jackson. "

It won't. But thanks to the hoodrat jackwagons who thought it would be cool to shut I-55 North to a halt to pop wheelies in the damn freeway, now we all have to watch out for extra blue lights on our daily commutes within Jxn.

Anonymous said...

Here is a prediction....
The MHP which is staffed with some of the best LEOs in the country will not ignore crimes taking place. They will engage and will not be scared to defend themselves. This will lead to several shootings that will not doubt be addressed as a big bad mean Trooper killing poor little momma's boy that had a 9mm in his possession. I feel for these Troopers, damned if you do damned if you don't.

So patrolling working people on 55 is going to keep down crime? This is what happens when you make a bank teller a Governor!

Anonymous said...

WLBT - July 13
"It seems we may have to wait a while until Jackson city leaders reveal a complete crime plan to address rising violence in the Capital City. On Monday, Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba said he had “talked enough” when asked if any crime fighting tactics had been implemented in the last six months. Other city council members we talked to say they’ve been holding conversations on how to get a handle on the violence."

Violent crime should not be a recently-added topic to the agenda at council meetings. When does talk turn to action? They clearly have no idea what to do, but do not want outside help, either. Meanwhile, Rome burns...

Anonymous said...

Why would you slap the hand of those you asked to come in & help you unless you're a special kind of stupid?
Thanks LaDumba

Anonymous said...

I appreciate what the State is trying to do here and I hope it helps. I would have to add that highway crime and urban crime are two different things. Don't expect a miracle but I do appreciate the effort.

Anonymous said...

There may be a bigger plan in place here. Is it possible MHP is going to herd the crime back into the city and put it all back on the leaders of the city? If MHP is given the opportunity that is what will happen. It's an excellent idea even though some in the city would call it diabolical. If the mayor doesn't get to work the nation of Jackson may become the "state" of Jackson.

Anonymous said...

MHP blue lights were fully operational on the commute up 220 this morning. There were at least 4-5 vehicles pulled over. I will have to mean 10 minutes earlier now since traffic will be a little more packed.

PittPanther said...

The only benefit coming from this will be more tickets written to suburban drivers as they speed into and out of Jackson. We can't install toll booths but we can sure enforce speeding laws on tags that start with an M.

It looks like, as one bozo called him, governor bank teller, has out maneuvered the great sultan of Jackson. The optics of this move makes governor bank teller appear strong on crime, while simultaneously causing the great sultan to appear impotent. This is not expected to go over well in the newsroom. Word has leaked that the Clarion Ledger intends to call this one of the most racist moves in Mississippi history.

Anonymous said...

Jackson and Hinds County needs help! Why complain about help! No one will be abused, arrested or harassed. Any Law Abiding person will willingly accept assistance.

Stop playing the race card, act accordingly and abide by the law, end of discussion. Good work Governor Reeves.(I can’t believe I just said that).

Let's get the positives out in regards to this new initiative. First things first, with MHP kicking up patrol on I-55, I-20, and I-220 - along with MBN picking up investigations in the city, that's one less thing and place for JPD having to deal with and one less location they have to be at. It gives them the opportunity to focus on other areas that do not receive the same attention.

Here's where Tate f*cked up, as usual. How the hell do you have a press conference about kicking up law enforcement in Jackson, but don't even invite local law enforcement, the mayor, or city council to stand next to you!? It just sets a bad precedent, when we are already such a divided community.

The other thing that did not go over so well, was Tate's point about people getting bail? The other was Sean Tindall talking as if he was living in Virden Addition while he was a judge in Jackson.

I'll give Reeves credit for doing what Fordice, Barbour, and Bryant would NEVER do.

But he did a poor job in the presentation.

Anonymous said...

Tate had to do something ...if nothing except for political reasons.
(And he really did outsmart Antard)

This is not a job for the National Guard ... yet.

Anyway, this is not a long term solution.

I predict MSNBC & CNN will have trucks in Jackson covering
some kind of fantasy "systemic racism" arrest by the MHP within two weeks.

Anonymous said...

If they'll just help secure the areas occupied by State government and the hospitals it will be fine with me. There's nothing that can be done for the rest.

Disagree

Presentations for measures such as this set the tone, its where people buy in.

If messaging wasn't important - companies wouldn't have communications and/or marketing departments.

But if MHP/Capital Police steps up and flex's its new muscle. It will make a difference.

Anonymous said...

Begging your pardon sir, but it wouldn't have mattered who was used by governor bank teller, it will be turned into a racist event. It cannot appear that the white bank teller was making a move that would indicate racial harmony. That would really make the sultan appear weak. The sultan, of the most radical city, cannot, under no circumstances, appear to need the white man's assistance. Now, the white man's money is a different matter.

It really depends on the news cycle as to how the mockingbird media will broadcast it. At PMSNBC the peacock's feathers are always up to spread some juice racism. At the Communist News Network, they will have Brian Alka-Seltzer crying about the inhumanity of it all. Then we have our local journalist, I can't believe I typed that with a straight face.

1035… MHP know virtually nothing about real law enforcement, if it hurts it’s because it’s true. If they do anything they are likely to get prosecuted by the Hinds DA.. good luck

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
