Family Questions Suspect's Death

A Rankin County family questions Sheriff Bryan Bailey's report of how their son died during an arrest.  WAPT reported:

There is a purported picture of the deceased circulating on social media. It shows a picture of a young black man's face with a ventilator.  One eye is deeply bruised and swollen.   The local media has the picture.  However, it has not been verified.

MBI is handling the investigation.

If they would’ve brought the MRAP everything would’ve been fine.

Sad deal. It’s unfortunate that police never want to release body and dash camera footage unless it can conclusively show they weren’t responsible for a death. I get that they don’t want their conduct to be questioned, but a little bit of information would go a long way to earning back trust.

A violent confrontation with the law usually produces bad results for the perp but these confrontations almost NEVER happen if one obeys the law. Just doesn't seem that hard to figure out.

Probably has more to do with the majority of RCSO being manlets with a shortman complex and many of them appear to be compensating with anabolic steroid use. They get a little too rough when the encounter a man of average or above average height that towers over them like Gulliver and the liliputians.

Never understood why they dont just go ahead and release body cameras and any footage. It wont affect they investigation and will allow people to see it for themselves.

You all know good and well they will release it when the investigation is complete. And if they don’t, KF will request it as soon as he can. I’m sure their investigation includes toxicology, so it will be a bit.

How many times do these folks turn out to be actual victims? How many times does the evidence prove they played the deciding factors in their fate. The resisting arrest alone tells you their was some type of a tussle. Remember the dude that broke his own neck slamming his head against the van? There’s ALWAYS more to the story.

I feel for his family, but they are late with their overbearing concern. Should have played a more active role before he went off the rails. Should have taught him theft is wrong. Should have taught him death may be a consequence of stupid choices. The world doesn’t offer everyone multiple chances to get it right.

Now, I do agree with the family seeing the full tape during the course of the investigation… so they will have SOME answers. I’m sure MBI wouldn’t jump on this idea though, because the family is likely to not accept any truth but what they are claiming. (Likely at their attorney’s advice… the one hoping for that settlement despite the evidence.)

I wish communities would use these situations to teach young people about making better choices regarding crime. It is nauseating to hear over and over “oh, he stole, so he should be dead?” or “oh, he made a mistake, so he should be dead?” Instead of teaching lessons in consequence and deterrent, it always ends up being a hatefest against police. If they REALLY want answers, why were the police even present? There, THAT’S your #1 answer. Dude brought this situation on himself. None of us were there and we don’t get to dictate the outcome after the fact.

The mother wants to know what happened that night? Her gang bangin' son committed a crime and then tried to fight the sheriff's office. A death sentence was not warranted but that is not what was intended either. He should not have fought the deputies. It is appears from his facebook page that he is a crip. It also appears that he put on serious muscle (in prison?). Live by the sword...

1:09-Bravo.

Just, well said and I agree.

There's really nothing interesting to say until more comes out. One could postulate and compare to Freddie Gray.

Unfortunately, there is a slight problem with such a foia request. The police can claim the investigation exemption and not provide anything. Trust me, they all know how to use that part of the law.

You won't see video of this until court and that's IF it ever goes to court.

Agree with @1:09. The lesson from all of these incidents is that you will not outmuscle the police. Don't try. Full stop. Deal with what's right or wrong after the fact because if you try to use force when law enforcement attempts to detain you, you will lose. Why is this such a hard concept?

@ 1:09

Outstanding !!

Especially the very trutheful part about the settlement and the question "Why were the police there in the first place"?

Do you even lift?

as Jim CArry's character said in Liar Liar: "STOP BREAKING THE LAW ASSHOLE"

If one is a law abiding citizen and never breaks the law, and respects the law and a reasonable request of an officer of the law.....this does not happen.

No part of this sounds like "sunshine" justice.

if one is innocent of any wrong doing, one does not get tazed.

You must be referring to number #1

@3:11
Well he’s made the hiring decisions since his first day, so you be the judge.

We need to teach our future criminals that when they are caught, don’t resist arrest, don’t swallow bags of fentanyl, and peacefully surrender to the authorities.

Stupid criminals doing stupid things bump their heads or over exert their hearts.

Very sad.

RCSO doesn’t have body cams. Hmmm. Rankin SO has one of the biggest budgets in the state, yet will not get body cams.

Kingfish, stop playing, you LOVE when criminals are killed.
You’ll post anything for some clicks.

Has it been confirmed the picture is actually of the suspect?

Kingfish said...

So why did I post the story about the mother questioning his death? In case you didn't notice, from what I can tell, JJ was the only media outlet to report the picture.

Anonymous said...

Well, I guess this story is dead already. Can’t question law enforcement in Rankin County, apparently.

Can anybody produce footage of any momma, ever, in the history of broadcast news, saying, "I know my baby did it. He been on a bad road for too many years. His time was comin' and the Good Lord call him home. Rest in peace, Baby."

Nope...It's always, "My boy ain't did shit. This didn't oughta happen! Ima call my lawyer!"

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
