Mayor Eases Jackson C19 Restrictions, Creates Temp Recreation District

Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba issued the following statement.

Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba TODAY signed a new Stay Safe Jackson Executive Order that seeks to provide a further economic lifeline to businesses by lifting some of the restrictions previously imposed on business services in response to Covid-19 safety concerns.

“We know that success at controlling the spread of this virus depends upon all of us adhering to recommended social distancing and mask wearing guidelines,” said Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba. “We also recognize the economic impact that this pandemic and the resulting restrictions have had on our busines community and our city. This order aims to help Jackson businesses prosper through this challenge by opening more public spaces and lifting capacity restrictions while maintaining some necessary precautions.”

Provisions of the new order include, but are not limited to:

1.                  Wearing a face covering in public places and when working.  Any individual who is over age two and able to medically and physically tolerate a face covering (a mask or cloth face covering) shall be required to cover their nose and mouth with a face covering when in a public place or at work (essential and non-essential) and unable to maintain a six-foot social distance.  Face coverings are required in public outdoor spaces and public indoor spaces such as stores.  This requirement shall not apply in places or situations where industry standards prescribe against the wearing of a face covering.

2.                  Capacity Restrictions and Business Hours.  All restrictions previously implemented through any Mayoral Executive Order related to Covid-19 are hereby lifted in their entirety.

3.                  Temporary Citywide Leisure and Recreation District.  Business entities within the City of Jackson that hold on premises retail alcoholic beverage permits issued by the Department of Revenue may take advantage of the ordinance establishing a temporary citywide leisure and recreation district within the corporate boundaries of the City of Jackson for the carry out/drive-through/curbside pick-up of alcoholic beverages.

4.                  Expanded Business Services.  Restaurants, bars, and retail establishments affected by government-imposed and Coronavirus-related capacity limitations may contact the City’s Constituent Services Office at 601-960-1084 to request a temporary permit to create or expand an outdoor area for customers to consume food and alcohol and to expand business operations to public parking lots, sidewalks, and streets closed to the public access, and other areas within the proximity of the business.

Business owners must submit to the City, among other documents and information, a safety plan; sanitation plan; operations plan; and diagram of the proposed temporary area.Use of sidewalk and streets must still meet all American with Disabilities Act and Fire Marshal requirements.  There shall be no fee imposed for the temporary permit.

This Order is effective as of today, Monday, May 10, 2021, and remain in full force and effect until modified, amended, rescinded, superseded or terminated due to the expiration of termination of the existing civil emergency.

I think it’s time to reopen the drive through Beer Barn on Lakeland. I had no idea drinking and driving had come back in style

"Face coverings are required in public outdoor spaces and public indoor spaces such as stores"

Experiment...grab yourself a cigar...light and take a drag off of said cigar...hold smoke in...place your preferred mask over your face in your normal mode of wear...exhale cigar smoke while wearing your mask...see if any smoke escapes.

Hint: Most, if not all, of the smoke will escape the mask.

Observation: If the smoke or vape or whatever your prefer can and does escape the mask, then what is the point of the mask. Covid will escape in the same manner.

Conclusion: This is about control or the appearance of control. This is no longer about science. Recent studies show whether you are 6 feet or 60 feet from the virus, you can get it...or not get it. Wearing a mask to your table in a restaurant or on the trails at Bridges is not going to prevent or save you from Covid. Let the people make their own decisions, and if you say you are using science to make informed decisions, actually use real science, not just what is convenient to your political position.

2:00 PM, the mask mandate has been an interesting ink-blot test on the American psyche.

@2:00 - Do you think doctors and nurses also wear masks for show because the government wants to control them? Maybe you should consider leaving the medical experiments to those who have studied it their entire lives.

There is not a single peer reviewed trial or study in this century that shows masks are effective- not one. The cdc on their website and in responses to FOIA and lawsuits has said they have Zero studies showing the effectiveness of masks. There are studies showing the dangers of masks. Throw yours out and live free.

"Face coverings are required in public outdoor spaces"

and

"the control of spread is contingent on mask wearing guidelines".

Mayor. Mayor. Check with your bosses in DC and you will learn that they are not suggesting that wearing masks in outdoor spaces is still a recommendation, or a guideline.

But we all know you want to sound like you are smart and in hip with this administration. Maybe try reading up on the latest instead of making your shit up all the time.

Oh, horseshit (can I day that here? Well, I just did). We wear masks because the powers that be insist we wear masks so some poorly-informed people don't get in a panic about being around people who are not wearing masks. If we don't comply they threaten to cancel our clinics, therefore cancelling our income. So we put up with bullshit. It doesn't mean we agree with it. We have to pay our bills, you see.

3:16 go look at the study in Kansas. Some counties required masks, others did not.

Guess who killed fewer people?

10:51 PM, you don't need a study. We are the study in this case. Look at a map of per capita COVID numbers. Shouldn't the states without mask mandates have piles and piles of bodies?

Do you know how infinitesimally smaller the COVID particle is than the average porous opening in a good ole fashioned mask? It's like trying to dam a river with chicken wire.

@3:10, does your doctor or nurse (pre-fakedemic) wear a mask when they don’t have a part of your body open? When they are examining you or speaking with you? They don’t, do they? They wear one to avoid spitting INTO you, not ON you.

@ 2:00 PM

Experiment.. Put on a disposable face mask, and then take a puff off your cigar/cigarette through the mask. After exhaling the smoke, take your mask off and look at it. There will be a black circle on the outside of the mask where the butt of the cigar/cigarette was placed while inhaling.

Observation.. The mask filtered some of the toxins/tobacco from entering your body, but you still exhaled smoke. Masks are not going to completely protect you from breathing in a virus, but they do filter some particles from the air.

I am not agreeing with mask mandates - just offering a different perspective.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
