Do we need to get a group of protestors to gather outside of Lumumba's gated street to get his attention and make him do something? Yes yes yes, I know, I know, people keep voting him in, dumb dumb dumb, yada yada yada. Nothing we can do about that at the moment. We could hem and haw all day about why/how people keep voting for him (and we all have, on previous posts), so let's talk solutions, not problems. Let's talk about what it would take to STOP CRIME, rather than argue about how/why/what is going on with house prices. Lumumba is here, so how do we make him act? Pry open the gates on his street so he can personally experience the crime? Open a halfway house right next door to Tomie Green's home and require the people she "blesses" to live there for six months so that maybe she'll be motivated to stop letting dangerous criminals out to immediately commit more crimes? (Before anyone gets outraged by this, I'm only kidding about the Judge Green suggestion. I am well aware that we can't do that. Wait..or can we?)

9:42. It's terrible and so sad. The crime (along with the infrastructure, poor public schools, etc.) is a deterrent for economic development, doctors, nurses, professors, and so many other places and people who we desperately need in our community and state. The state's only level 1 trauma center and children's hospital are in Jackson, and UMMC (and other hospitals and institutions) need to be safely accessed by the public. Moving to the suburbs will not make the hospitals and universities/colleges in Jackson any safer. I love Jackson, and the fact that the city is run by people who don't love it is just sad.

I am not a gun advocate by any means, but I will be carrying whenever I go to Jackson from now on. This is just ridiculous.

I live in Reunion in Madison. We are not immune to crime either. About a year ago, two people were breaking into unlocked cars and stealing whatever was in there. With our surveillance equipment, it took Madison P.D. About 2 hours to identify and arrest.

We need to sit outside of Lumumba's gated community on a crotchrocket with a modified muffler and just rev that thing up all night long. Seriously.

I called the Governor's office. I have heard that Tate Reeves does not like the city of Jackson, because the city did not vote for him. Regardless, I asked what steps can be taken for the State to take control from the Mayor and help with crime. The person in the office suggested calling our state representative to see what can be done via the Legislature, so I have emailed Representative Yates. It's sad that our Mayor won't do anything, but until he steps out of his gated community and stops requiring JPD officers serve as his security guards, I don't think he'll ever take immediate steps to improve the crime problem.

Well, all the Jackson haters aside, the most disturbing part of this is that it hints at an organized, more experienced criminal group of pro car thieves.

How long do you think they sat waiting for the young women to exit? Instead, they spotted the model and make desired in transit and followed the driver.

If some of you think 1) they are targeting models and makes and have geographical boundaries and 2) Your gun will do you any good if ambushed and they have a gun with safety off, you are naive and dumb enough to die for an insured auto.

I know three people who have thought their gun made them invincible ( one here, the other two lived in cities elsewhere). Two reached into purses to grab the gun and the male to his shoulder. They are now known as " deceased".

Be alert to your surroundings. Look in your rear view mirrors more frequently.

Car thieves are common to those who live in urban areas in the country. That they have decided during Covid to come to areas where people out and about in larger numbers and less alert, is not a surprise.

Chowkey pays Fat Melvin more to produce his mayoral video puffery than many JPD officers are paid. Think about that.

There is a mayoral election on June 8th. I suggest everyone do their research on all the candidates (1 Dem, 1 Rep, 3 Ind candidates). Our current mayor won his primary with 13,000 votes. There are over 150,000 residents in the city of Jackson.

9:52am, I actually believe you're on the right track. Some type of civil disobedience is needed to get the attention and focus of the mayor and police, and even the national media.
I don't know if I would recommend taking down the gates of a private neighborhood with other residents, but I certainly don't see why a large group couldn't barricade city hall. Chain the doors, or chain yourselves to the doors, let no one inside. Or a group outside of Lumumba's gates would also do the trick.

The volvo was found almost immediately, abandoned in west Jackson. The GPS tracked it going over 100 on Northside. Sounds like it was nothing more than a joyride after having a little fun carjacking.

The witness whose comment states "carjacked at gunpoint by two slim young men in black hoods" stated in a later post that the bad guys were black. The victim was assisted by the commenter in the immediate aftermath and the victim told us their skin color. From the witness's original viewpoint, all that could be determined was that 2 young, slender, masculine people wearing jeans and black hoodies pulled all the way up were trotting down the middle of the street in broad daylight. Then, we moved to get a better view and saw them jump into the victim's car and speed away, leaving her standing on the street in distress.

The lying media reported yesterday that there is a shortage of homes on the market in Jackson, that it is a seller's market.

It's open season on NEJ residents, apparently. What are the rules for protection? I understand that I can protect my property if someone is in the act of robbing me. What about after the fact? Can I shoot someone in the back if they are running away with my stuff? Can I shoot someone fleeing in my car? Someone posted on Nextdoor that an officer said "You people need to learn to protect yourself." Is this official policy? What does that mean? If I shoot someone who robbed me, do I go to jail or will I get the same treatment as the robbers (a free pass). Do we need the National Guard and is there a number that we can call? At what point does the Governor take control of the city? The mayor and police need to understand that tax paying residents all over the city, not just NEJ, cannot and should not be held responsible for the death that will be coming soon from these types of crimes. But I want assurances.

Car theft seems to be increasingly popular with the lads, who have stolen guns. Is it just me but never hear of the chop shop being raided? Maybe that is just Hollywood myths. Doing a car jacking for a short joy ride seems crazy.
A handgun is great but one in the glove box, console is not any help when the lads are fast and prey on you, they just get another handgun.
Clear the Mayor and DA do not care much about stopping theft, armed robbery.

Actually my friend, you seem to have confused the term SUBURB with SUBDIVISION. Eastover, Leftover (Not it's real name), Briarwood Part II etc. etc. are all Subdivisions that are encompassed within the corporate boundary of a City or Town, in this case the City of Jackson. Ridgeland, Richland, Flowood and Clinton are all Suburbs of the City of Jackson. I tell you this as a Land Surveyor, who has on plenty of occasions been called "The Vay Mane" by certain demographics that I can only explain as "those who would rather not call me "Sir". Sir Vay, I beg to differ. Please look at Wikipedia's definition of 'Suburb', keeping in mind that if a subdivision is large enough, it can, on its own, also be a suburb. Eastover certainly was and is, and Leftover (particularly if its area includes several separate additions to the city) is one, too. Or maybe Eastover and Leftover form one suburb. It's all somewhat subjective. But we seem to agree that Eastover and Flowood are BOTH suburbs, so that if one moves from one to another, he is hardly moving "to the suburbs" (since it's a suburb he's leaving).

Suburb is OUTLYING of a city. Eastover, etc are INSIDE the city, hence Eastover is a subdivision inside the city and Flowood is a suburb outside the city

Deadly force is to be used when you are currently in danger. Not when the danger has passed and now you're angry. Depending on the state you may be able to use deadly force to protect property, but that doesn't mean firing at someone down the street as they run away with your tv, or drive away with your car.

This is why I laugh at all the cowboys who claim carrying a gun is the ultimate protection. By three time you realize you're being carjacked, a gun is already in your face and you're not gonna try to draw with a gun pointed at you. A gun can help with a home invasion if it's close by.
