Fear-mongering at the Clarion-Ledger

Leave it to the Clarion-Ledger to make a problem worse.  The "newspaper" reported yesterday we are experiencing toilet paper shortages yet again:

Stockpiling has become something of a national pastime as worries about a second pandemic wave this winter fuel a desire to store away groceries and supplies. But Americans say they aren’t done yet, and that behavior could cost them financially.

One in 3 Americans say they are still planning on stocking up on pandemic-related supplies, according to a December study from LendingTree, which surveyed more than 1,000 people about their shopping habits and plans. Another one-third report they’ve already stocked up on groceries and household supplies, the survey found.

That may not surprise shoppers who have once again encountered empty toilet paper shelves or ongoing restrictions from retailers such as Costco, which continues to limit some sought-after items like Clorox wipes to one package per customer.

Stockpiling picked up in October as COVID-19 infections started rising – but the pandemic has only worsened since then because of holiday travel and colder weather. Stockpiling provides a psychological sense of comfort and preparedness during a crisis, experts say....

It even posted this picture:

There is just one problem.  It's not true, at least not for the Jackson area.  Kroger has plenty of stock.  It might not be your favorite brand but the shelves have had plenty of stock over the last few weeks.  Madison Walmart had stock every time yours truly visited the store over the last few weeks.  Costco had plenty of stock Tuesday.  Corner Market never ran out although it raised its prices some time ago as it played with the elasticity curve.  Sam's was no different than it has been since March.  It gets a big shipment in a few times a week that lasts several hours.

There would not have been another shortage if Dr.'s Osterholm and Emmanuel had kept their mouths shut.  The so-called shortages began in November when the two members of President-Elect Biden's Covid-19 Task Force shot their mouths off and said there needed to be a real shutdown once they took office.  They weren't speaking for Mr. Biden or the task force but no matter. The media ran with it and people reacted.  Good job, guys.  Notice how they have shut up since that little episode.

All this story does is contribute to public fear when the public is already scared out of its minds.  However, in the rush to make all stories national, Gannett hurts all things local.

This probably only affected the dozen or so people that still read the clarion ledger.

I don't know if you have picked up on this yet Kingfish, but the media lies A LOT!

The MSM don't report the news so much as they try to shape it. Most of the sheeple wouldn't notice the lies. By definition they are easily led.

We’ll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false.”

I have a special bottle of my favorite spirit saved for the day the Cl closes its doors.

It will truly be a celebratory moment. No more liberal slime, bullshit and faux journalism.

I can't wait.

That’s not a picture of a store in Mississippi. How do I know? One of the signs hanging from the ceiling says Liquor on it. Good job Clarion Liar.

So few people read the CL that they couldn’t start a run on toilet paper even if they put the article on page one

Like the first go-round when multiple “news” outlets posted the same video of shoppers fighting over toilet paper and claimed it was in 3-4 different cities.

The Clarion-Ledger; a relevant newspaper in Christmas past. Bah, humbug.

The news is not enough. To "sell it" it must be sensational. And it's all about sales, not news. Isn't that the mantra of all the media today? Accuracy is a luxury.

Give us dirty laundry.

OH NooooOOOoOZozzzzozozzozzzzzozzz! Target is out of TP. What will the soccer moms do????????

If the Clarion Liar didn't buy and waste paper by the truckload, we wouldn't have this conversation.

Also, if a headline contains an adjective, it's probably not news and there's a good chance it's not even true.

Kingfish, don’t be coming to Madison county to buy stuff. Stay in Hinds and buy your crap there. #buildthewall

As long as the Clarion Ledger is being published (print copy) there will never be a shortage of toilet paper.

Anonymous said...

CL crying about this meanwhile they waste trees by printing this garbage

The media folks like to call facts that don’t support their agenda “misinformation.” The media folks are nothing more than propagandists now. True journalism is dead. The Clarion Ledger, Mississippi Today, etc. are simply about pushing their version of a narrative, Truth means nothing anymore. And it’s gotten so blatant that the reporters don’t even try to hide it anymore. They will flat tell you to your face that they won’t report things that don’t fit their PERSONAL agenda.

Thank God nobody reads it anymore.

What is the circulation of this paper you mention?

Both Kroger’s in Madison had plenty of TP and paper towels. No cream cheese, though.

In this day and age of a novel corona virus amidst shuttered tattoo parlors, perhaps the Crying Liar should print their "news" on rolls of toilet paper. What a novel idea. And that my friends, is the bottom line.

There is a definite shortage of brains during the pandemic. And, I don't see it letting up any time soon.

Anonymous said...

Who needs TP? That's what the CL is for.

Anonymous said...

If the CL went away, how would we ever know "Four Things to Know" about things we don't care about?

Can’t be more than 20,000 and that’s probably generous

There is plenty of toilet paper everywhere.

I live in Bum F**k Egypt, and and the two dollar stores have all kinds of TP.

One might have to get there early to buy the extra fluffy super soft stuff,
but no school is in danger of confiscation of kindergarten drawing paper.

. . . or corncobs.

I'll have you know I still read the Jackson Daily News and the Memphis Press Scimitar.

I quit reading the Clarion Ledger 50 years ago and don't miss it at all.

How successful is Mississippi Today. Seems thevCL staff just picked up and moved over there.

Used to be we bought and read papers front to back to learn stuff, get the news, view the comics, be absorbed in special interest stories and keep up with our community and state. At one time 'the newspaper' was a bastion of community pride. Now it's a jungle of divisiveness.

Now, if it's not about racial division, victimization, moaning, groaning, entitlement, mistreatment and one group or another whining...it's of zero interest and even less attraction. That's the main reason state-wide and some divisive local rags have hit the skids and will never return to prominence.

Even people like Salter now hitch their mule to the new paradigm. Without it, he has no plow.

Since before all of this silliness began, have been ordering on-line. Never have run out even when stores were low.

I'm sticking with the State Times.....copies do seem to be a bit harder to find, though.

If the news organizations were unbiased and concerned with reporting facts why do they all report the same BS and run the same headlines on the ticker? Everyday the news organizations have the exact same stories regardless of which channel or paper you read. It sure seems like someone is controlling the narrative and it isn't your local paper.

The CL was scooped by reddit weeks ago when a poster there posted a picture of their local target emptied of rolls of TP.

How sad is it that their reporters are scooped. Like they are here.

9:14 At one time the Clarion Ledger was the principal source of information in central Mississippi, but it was also the most divisive racist journal of half-truths in the South. It's publishers were determined to support and justify the status quo of an oppressive society. But the paper did get better, then it got worse, now it's worthless. But "Divisiveness" is nothing new. It depends on which side of the divide you sat.

Hey everybody, I found out what the CL's new sports editor is doing - you know him, he was working out of his mom's house as a Gannett page designer before being hired as sports editor - he's a beat writer covering USM sports for the Hattiesburg American - really impressive, huh?

Google says Capers became sports editor in April. Kingfish reported it in October and 3:56 just got woke to it.

It still is.

That was sixty damned years ago. The paradigm flipped at least twenty five years ago. Now the 'We In Charge' crowd is running the show...just as they're running the city. See a pattern? Both have failed but continue with the chest compressions on dead bodies.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
