I own a business and cannot understand any company alienating a part ( small or large) of your potential or actual customer base. To try and push an agenda down someone’s throat or be blind to a section is just dumb. I quit the rag 3 years ago and they about offer it for free if you subscribe for 90 days but I have no interest.

It’s why the paper is only two sections. It’s why there are hardly any ads run in it. It’s why most of the articles are USA Today.

Most of the old news papers are fading and the special 'limited time' subscription offers are all AOL rip-offs. At the end of the special deal the subscriber is automatically subscribed for a year at the regular price.

The NYTs assured me that if I subscribed for 1 year at a special rate that it would not be renewed unless I authorized them but SURPRISE, they lied. Printed news papers should just give up and go home,

When I obtained my B.A. in journalism many years ago, we were taught to use the AP Stylebook like we would use a dictionary. It was a resource for writing standards.

To Mr. Daniszewski, reporters are supposed to report facts, with emphasis on the 5 Ws: who, what, where, when, and why. News reporters are not responsible for fixing everyone. That is the individual's own responsibility. Give us the information, report the stories, and let each of us decide for ourselves what to do with it. Thank you.

We live in a different world. Now, to pillory whites is acceptable. People with good upbringing, white, black, yellow and red don't like today's acceptable racism promoted by the media, Democrats and other liberals.

Here is the current problem "newspaper's" have, they only publish one time a day. Now with things moving as fast as they do 30 seconds after something happens its already covered on Facebook, Twitter, local news apps, and especially on local TV websites. Yes, newspapers have websites, but there are three problems. One is it is not free like all the others. Two to produce something on their website someone at a remote regional production site has to produce it and that takes time. Three they must have staff to get that info, the correct info to the right people. What newspaper has that staff today?

If the executives of the largest chains we paying attention they could have delayed the crash by a few years. They were to busy patting themselves on the back about all the tech advances they were making with the printing process.

Just don't say anything negative about blacks on this blog or your comments will never be seen.

I can't believe this many people are upset over the capitalization or non-capitalization of a word.

I feel sorry for mixed-race folks. Consider Barack Obama. He is half Black, half white, and was essentially abandoned by his Black father and raised by his white mother and her white parents. His daughters are faced with being one-quarter white and three-quarters Black. And geez, think about Tiger Wood's kids, who are Black, Thai, Chinese, Dutch, and white or as he says of himself, they are "cablinasian" and white, or maybe now "Cablinasian" and White. I mean, is there a "one drop" rule to this thing, i.e., are Obama's girls are now one-quarter White and three-quarters Black? I guess what I'm asking is if a person has at least some Black ancestry, does it earn their white skin-color-based racial descriptive elevation to capitalization or is the white part of them doomed to lowercasedness and loss of apparent respect attendant to that? If not, it sure seems disrespectful and either way, destined to cause unnecessary confusion.

12:27, believe it. It's not any different from the "black lives matter" versus "all lives matter" controversy. By not capitalizing the word "black" they think they are being disparaged, but when you capitalize "white" too you are not respecting their oppressive past as a special group.

You can't win. I don't care which way it goes as long as it is equal. If you are going to capitalize Black when you refer to the racial group then you should capitalize White as well.

Both terms are inaccurate and probably inappropriate.

I am not "white" the more accurate tram would be "tannish" or "beige with darker toned portions".

Most "Black" people are actually some (varying) tone of brown. I would consider "chocolate" to be more accurate, although some would give me a run for my money in terms of "whiteness".

I do accept the term "redneck" if it applies to those who spend hours and hours working in the sun, as it does seem to affect the color of that portion of the neck exposed to UV rays, like when driving a tractor.

I do find it strange that two "Black" people can call each other the "N" word and it is fine, but when "Whitey" uses the same slang, it is racist, which I agree is a bad thing. I'm not saying "Whitey" should ba able to use that word. I am saying that "Black" folks should be held to the same standard. I refuse to accept justification by saying it is their "Culture". We all have "Culture" and what is OK for the goose, should be OK for the gander.

It’s not limited to the Clarion Ledger. I was just reading an article from WLBT titled “ Conversation...Black Father to Son” by Howard Ballou and yes every time the work black was used it was capitalized. Not so for the word white. This is really getting ridiculous!

I don’t understand the word”colored” being racist but that we should use the words” people of color”. My Mom taugh me to use the word “colored” as a form of respect for black people and taught me never to use the N word. This was in the 60’s.
