Jackson Police are investigating a shooting that occurred on yesterday just after 4:30 pm, which left two small children injured when a man fired shots into a vehicle they occupied. It happened in the 2500 block of North State Street in front of the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Based on witness account, a small dark colored vehicle driven by an unknown black male was seen firing at their vehicle before speeding away south on State Street. The mother of the children ran holding them, to the emergency room of the hospital for help. Both children were treated for non life-threatening injuries and remained hospitalized and in stable condition.
The suspect vehicle bore a Canon Nissan paper tag. Since the incident, several tips had been received through Crime Stoppers providing information about the shooting.
Investigators were able to utilize some of that information which resulted in the recovery of a black Nissan Sentra at a south Jackson location, believed to be the vehicle used on yesterday. A person of interest, not occupying the vehicle at the time, was detained for questioning, however no arrests have been made.
A second person of interest has also been identified and additional information could be forthcoming.

Book 'em, Danno. Throw away the key.
Seems like the problems are always found to have come from South Jackson... meanwhile there councilman Banks is protesting Northpark mall and defending those bunch of morons that either didn't know an obvious rule or didn't give a damn. Either way he's a useless piece of white. Big mouth fool with a brain that apparently is only focused o. Someone's skin color. He's s race baiting idiot.
These paper tags once served a legit purpose, but now they're used for multiple purposes, all to avoid buying a tag.
Even more unlawful, should be the Tag-Applied-For 'tags'. There is no such thing in this state as 'applying for a tag'. You either buy one or you don't. And if you order a personalized or special logo tag, you are issued a regular tag while yours is on order.
People use these paper tags to keep from being stopped for not having one. And they also replace their regular tag with a paper tag when they're up to no good and don't want their tag number noted.
8.37 great point. Banks could have toned down statement 100%. He could have said hey everyone knows the procedure now and the will file the proper applications. But again people sometimes just want to shop and eat and enjoy their friends and family without being hassled by some, Me too, pro choice, black lives matter, black votes matter, get rid of the Confederate flag controversy. When you scream offended every day its starts to lose some of its power of persuasion. Just one mans opinion.
Most of the cars with the "Tag Applied For" on it are Enterprise Car Rental vehicles. I assume they pay a flat fee and don't have to put a tag on their many vehicles. Funny the Hertz does, though.
9:31 I always buy a tag supporting my college and have never been given a regular tag while waiting on the “logo” tag. I was once pulled over still sporting the dealer tag, showed the officer my receipt for purchase of the logo tag and was let go with no issues.
@12:32
You are correct. I have purchased several specialty tags through the years, most recently last month. Mississippi has no such thing as a "temporary" tag while awaiting arrival of the actual tag. The clerks have always cautioned me to keep the tag receipt handy in case I am stopped by LEO.
While on the subject, how do so many people manage to drive with an expired tag without being stopped? There is a car in my neighborhood that has a tag that expired in August of 2016. It is driven daily, apparently without consequences. Also another that swaps one tag between three different vehicles. Yes, I have talked to the police, but unless they catch them on the road they can't do anything.
You are both wrong. I've bought MSU and USM and personalized plates as well as Sons of Confederate Veterans (in Madison County) and have ALWAYS been issued a regular, temporary plate that I have to surrender when the special plate comes in. I have NEVER been told to keep the receipt handy in case I'm stopped.
But, to the point, there is no such thing as 'Tag Applied For'.

If you have white cardboard and a black magic marker......there can be.
I've had many personalized plates and have NEVER had a temporary plate issued. Like many other people on here I have been told you keep the paperwork with you until the tag comes in.
Could be the Tax Collector's option. Maybe the ONE thing Kay Pace has done right in 25 years. Always had a temporary (regular) tag issued and told it would suffice until the 'ordered' one came in.
Have dealers collect temporary tag fees, issue a drive out valid for 30 days, force car owner to overpay for a tag to drive on crummy Mississippi roads, county profits
They found a car. Great.
Now can they find the person that hung nooses around the Capitol on Election Day?
Yeeeeeah, we know the answer to that. That crime will NEVER be solved...
@10:58
Yes the democrats hung the noose to get the vote out. Don't be an idiot. I dislike Cindy but the Espy team did this.
speaking of paper tags, ,,,,,,if you ever go to rent a car, check it out before you drive off and make sure it has a valid tag on it. many companies rent cars with paper tags. its illegal to drive without a tag ,period. a paper tag is asking to get pulled over by police.
@ 4:47 "You are both wrong"
Leave it to "the Drain" to chime in and attempt to prove everyone wrong. I've never seen anyone stumble over their own tongue so much. Too many stumbles can lead to slip and falls.
