CORRECTION!!!!

Correction time: JJ goofed.  The opioid amendments were not, repeat, NOT withdrawn.  The SOS told JJ that the withdrawal notice posted below applies to proposed rules that were filed earlier.  The second notice posted below refers to the opioid amendments approved by the Board of Medical Licensure on December 15, 2017.   The withdrawal apparently referred to reg 2640 amendments filed on 9/22/2017.  The second notice posted below refers to the amendments approved in December.  JJ apologizes for the error. Feel free to throw stones in the comments.

The Mississippi Board of Medical Licensure withdrew its proposed "Opioid Amendments."

However, there is one feature of this withdrawal that is rather curious.  The date states it was filed on December 29, 2017.  However, when yours truly checked the website on New Year's Day, this is what appeared - the proposed regs along with an effective date.  They no longer appear on the SOS website.

So how close did we come to a legislative disbanding of the board of medical licensure? Reckon someone got word to Easterling that the legislature was moving to disband?

So does this mean that the politicians and lawyers no longer know more about medicine than doctors and medical personnel? I have been told it is pretty easy to see from printouts which medical people are abusing the system. How much time and money have been wasted on this witch hunt? I am trying to figure who made money off of this. Mike Moore?

Fantastic! So does this mean that none of them will take effect?

This is interesting... On the email I received by the Board, they apparently filed their intention with the SOS of implementing the restrictions on the same day that they filed its withdrawal.

Thank you KF for your continued reporting on this issue. Those with chronic pain and those who will need opioids in the future recovering from an accident or surgery owe you a debt of gratitude.

Yet another newsworthy piece of information that will never see the light of day in the CL.

I need to take something to relieve all this anxiety..................

This is wonderful news. I'll be back to check in later. Time to do a little doctor shopping.

Easterling remains a bad actor.

Facing very serious abdominal surgery in a few weeks, this eases my mind a great deal. I've had very similar surgery in past years and know what to expect post operation. Whoever is responsible for this, I salute you!

Yes Easterling is a horrible doctor...but so are each and every member of that joke of a "Board". These people with God complexes began quaking in their crocs when KF began questioning their fueling ANOTHER opiod epidemic by blindly voting to allow wide latitude for long-term prescribing of Suboxone while they profited from this tragic opioid. SHAME!!!! SHAME!!!SHAME!!!

This makes no sense. Amendments filed and withdrawn on the same day ? No communication with physicians or the public that this very contentious
and divisive action was now moot ? What is really going on here ? I will be uneasy until the board announces they have backed off. I know Dr. Easterling well and admitting he is wrong will require substantial Xanax consumption.

This is a good day for patients and the practice of medicine in Mississippi.

I still think there should be an investigation into each Board member's prescribing practices and the potential benefit to them if their proposed amendments had been enacted. We heard them ourselves say that they "wish they could have had the meeting behind closed doors".
Also to be investigated, how lucrative the Opioid Grant has been for Easterling,et al. INVESTIGATE PLEASE, AG,do your job! Or the MBN...if you're not Sissies you'll do it.

I knew this was fake news somehow

Let he....screw it. STONE HIM

Well, learned today to read this blog, as with all media, with a huge grain of salt. Huge blunder.

I'm not going to throw stones at Kingfish. KF reported erroneous information, and is now correcting it. That is the way errors should be fixed. My beef is when most media outlets (both TV and print) screw up, they rarely retract or apologize. KF made a mistake, he owned it, he corrected it, he explained it, and he gave corrected and proper information. That is the way errors should be fixed. The media could take a lesson from KF.

We are ALL entitled to make a mistake.

Kingfish, you are the only Investigative Reporter that goes after crooks, liars and cheaters...keep on doing a great job !!!!!!

Well said 3:28

I see no screw up here, Kingfish simply reports what happens...you decide! Just google media screw ups for any year and this minor flub pales in comparison. Keep up the good work, Kingfish!!!!

Let those amongst us who have never misinterpreted a poorly worded press release throw the first stone.... 😁

JJ, want to know who prescribes what? Google ProPublica follow the prompts. Keep in mind this is only indications of trends from public info.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/01/23/health/patrick-kennedy-opioid-commission-sham/index.html

(CNN)The Republican-led Congress has turned the work of the president's opioid commission into a "charade" and a "sham," a member of the panel told CNN.
"Everyone is willing to tolerate the intolerable -- and not do anything about it," said former Democratic Rep. Patrick Kennedy, who was one of six members appointed to the bipartisan commission in March. "I'm as cynical as I've ever been about this stuff."

So Mr. Huey it seems you only know what the solution should NOT be.How about dropping some of your wisdom about what people who've SURVIVED near fatal accidents who brave every moment of their life in chronic crippling pain and please share your agonizing history of physical trauma with us.

Dittos to 3:41. KF, keep up the good work.

So you Pitchforkers want to discredit the ONLY entity that shed light on this situation bc he, an attorney and as someone who has read thru the statutes and regulations, mistakenly reported on a curious filing from a bureaucratic agency playing a shell game. He was not provided a statement when he requested one. He made an immediate and "front page" redaction.
Makes you wonder what hope all the rest of us have who aren't fluent in legalese and bureaucratic shell game BS. Thank you KF for keeping us knowledgeable.

Kingfish said...

Thanks. Not a lawyer. But several lawyers contacted me who couldn't make sense of what was on sos and mbml websites.

Huey @5:32. At least this "stoner" woke up and is breathing this am, as opposed to the ones who "followed the letter of the law and their doctor's instructions to ingest pharmaceutical heroin" and died during the night like 63,600 Americans did in 2016. A 28% increase from the year before and more killed in a year than the whole Vietnam war.
This doesn't EVEN count the families who feel shame and think its better to suffer in silence because their adult child died under their roof...several years ago heart failure was practically unheard of in 40 year olds, except now it's happening to 23 year olds.
WAKE UP TO WHAT THE REAL KILLER IS! and to your place in solving or exacerbating the problem. Rant over

A "doper" is what Lance Arrmstrong is and should be serving time in prison for his crimes of extortion, verbal assaults and threats, lying under oath and much more.
A stoner is someone who believes that if the Fed Govt can legislate what I take out of my body (abortion) then they should not be able to legislate what I put in it as long as it doesn't harm others, etc. as a privacy issue.
Doper Lance committed serious felonies and a stoner only commits a ticketable misdemeanor which has been decriminalized by MS.

Dang - now all those addicts that claim just being in consistent pain and don't want to be cured are going to have to continue their doc shopping and the docs are going to have to make their staffs spend a minute on a computer to run a PMP before they can continue their farce.

KF, you had them fired up thinking that their life in the clouds would continue and now they have to land and face reality like the rest of us.

1. Well, they should have been withdrawn
2. As I wrote above, That they were withdrawn just did not make sense as neither Drs nor public was notified and I wasn't buying it until MSBML said it. I stand by my comment that Dr. Schweitzer, er I mean Easterling, would never admit he was wrong

Does anyone know which legislators serve on the committee that will decide the fate of the board of idiots changes and when is this coming up? I would hope these elected officials would consider the opinion of the voters. CL reporter got her horn tooted in NY Times today. The governor praised her again on her dedication to reporting this issue. What a joke. She’s only reporting what this task force and medical board WANTS her to report.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
