Savage!

Percy King was shot and killed in his front yard this morning.  Mr. King was known as "The Snake Man" as he thrilled thousands of children in Jackson over the years. The possible suspect is in custody.

JPD issued the following statement:
Jackson Police are investigating the fatal shooting of two individuals in the 500 block of Scott St.

Shortly before 12:30pm, Officers responded to the call of a shooting.  Once they arrived, they found two unidentified males fatally injured.  Nearby, just down the street, Officers located a witness who had observed the incident unfold and that witness also held the suspect at bay until Officers took him into custody.

The suspect has not been positively identified but is believed to be a 26-year-old black male.  A handgun, believed to be use in the crime, was also recovered.

Investigators working to obtain a positive identification on both victims.  Motive remains unknown at this time.

Dang. He was always nice and wanted to help people learn about animals, particularly snakes. Nobody is safe anymore.

That was a good man.......WHY?

I had the privilege of seeing a few of his programs over the years with my kids. Thanks to his work, countless children (and adults) had a chance to see, touch, and learn about animals that they'd never otherwise get close to. He had a passion for what he did and the Metro area was better for having him as a part of it.

This is awful. He did so much with kids over the years and was such a nice man.

He really was such nice person and great with kids. He will be missed.

Damn shame. Always kind, humble, took time for every single kid and folks old and young. The Devil does not dwell below but walks these very streets.

That is such a shame and disgraceful. That man for years has entertained kids with animals, educated children about animals, snakes and the rest and often did it free of charge or for very little because it was a passion of his. The citizens of this city ought to have had enough and be outraged that we seem to live in a shooting gallery where we know every other day there will be a murder, but wait until the news comes out to learn where. White, black and the rest ought to unite and come together against this crime and fix the flaws of this justice system. The murdering animals in our community need to be put away and run out. Time to stop this mess.

I just met him when I took my granddaughter to a birthday party. What a crying shame and needless too. We just have to get more civilized in this town.

He was an amazing man. He didn’t charge anything to do birthday parties for kids. Just asked for you to give him whatever you could for his time. Kids loved him. He used to go to the daycare my kids attended.

This breaks my heart. What a tremendous loss to the community! Prayers for his family.

What a complete shame and tragedy! What a nice guy he was. I saw him at the Flea Market in Flowood once. Great entertainer and educator!

Now to the root of the problem: Jackson is gone. Period. It's out of control! I just did a Google street view "drive" down Scott Street, and i can only imagine how nice that little neighborhood must've been when things were safe in Jackson. Now, that fact that it's a side street off of MLK Drive tells you that's not a place you want to go!

Terrible. So senseless.

Percy was one those special people that everyone claimed to “know” - it was because he was so nice and engaging with all. My wife served a term on the zoo board and during that time is when our family met him. Always smiling and so genuine with sharing affection for his work with animals, people like him are so rare in our mixed-up world. I’m at a loss for words even trying to process this - is a crying shame.

He came to my kids preschool from time to time and I enjoyed him and his animals as did my child. I am sorry to hear this and hope Justice is swiftly served.

I took my Grandkids to the state fair. He let the GK's hold several snake. Nice Guy. This is why we can't have nice things in Jackson. I'm being serious. Court system in Jackson Sucks

What does it take to make the voters of Jackson begin voting guilt and remove the cancer from their body?

Anonymous said...

What a tragedy!!! He was such a nice guy and I hate snakes!

I hope the District Attorney doesn't turn this one loose in 90 days!!!!

The DA? The only DA we have is a real life DA. I hope the Rankin County sensible jury next week burns his racist, incorrigible, absolutely crooked ass.

I grieve too, saw the brother yesterday at the mall, but the most pressing issue is the government shutdown.

Nothing about a motive? Who shoots two people in a front yard?

Ok, I can't take this B.S. any more! Let me just say that the "Snake Man" may have been just that a "Snake"! Everyone has secrets and his were Anacondas! Believe me or not,I don't care but he was no saint and hopefully it will come out!

Was inevitable that sooner or later someone would show up here to blame the victim.

Jackson is LOST.

My wife told me she met him as he came to our daughters daycare. He would also visit nursing homes. Horrible shame. Seems like he was a good person. A big loss for everyone.

Probably killed by another thug that was released from jail because of the piss poor law enforcement in Jackson.

1:42 you make me sick. I don't care if he had secrets. He was a great man that did great things in our city and he did not deserve to be gunned down. Have some respect and compassion.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
