JMAA gets $17.7 million grant awards

The Jackson Municipal Airport Authority issued the following press release:

Jackson Municipal Airport Authority Awarded $17,754,309 in Infrastructure Improvement Grants

Jackson, MS – The FAA through the Airport Improvement Program and MDOT awarded grant funds to support airfield construction projects at both the Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN) and Hawkins Field Airport (HKS). FAA provided $17,216,361, and MDOT contributed $200,000, toward the cost of resurfacing of the West Runway, and portions of parallel taxiway Alpha at JAN. AIP funds in the amount of $320,161, and $17,787, in MDOT funds, will be used to resurface the aircraft parking apron at HKS, adjacent to the historic terminal building. Work on the runway at JAN will commence at the beginning of 2017, while the project at HKS is scheduled to begin in November 2016.

Rosie L.T. Pridgen, Ph.D. Chairman of the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority responded to the confirmation of the award with the following: “Our airports are key economic drivers. The Board of Commissioners of the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA) made a commitment to the community to fund today and tomorrow and ensure our airports have safe and well developed airfields to sustain and enhance our ability to provide commercial, military and general aviation services. With the assistance of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Mississippi Department of Transportation Aeronautics Division (MDOT), we are able make additional progress to achieve those goals.”

The AIP grants are made available to public agencies for the planning and development of public-use airports that are included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (“NPIAS”). For small primary and reliever airports, the grant covers ninety (90) percent of eligible costs, based on statutory requirements. Eligible projects include those improvements related to enhancing airport safety, capacity, security, and environmental concerns. MDOT grants are generally made available to support the ten (10) percent share requirement associated with AIP grants.

How much did the City of Jackson spend? Surely they put some money in on the project since it is in the City of Jackson.
Oh, wait... they did not put anything in?

But the state of MS puts more money in? I guess this is foreshadowing what is about to take place with the rest of the city of Jackson. Get ready tax payers of MS. You are going to be paying for your Capitol city.

well, good for them.

you know, if jackson thrives, the rest of the metro area will too.

That's right 11:33. MDOT only acts as a pass-thru grant agency of FAA money for Jackson's airport. Provides the matching funds (that they are required to provide) only for Jackson's airport. All the other airports in Mississippi do not receive FAA grants thru MDOT or have the required 10% paid by MDOT. Since you obviously have no knowledge of how airport construction funding is done, or MDOT role in it why don't you go back to your Rankin trailer park and pop another top on your PBR and leave the heavy lifting to others that might have an idea of what they are talking about.

Genius at 11:33, two things:

1) Where does it say Jackson is not paying any money towards the airfield construction projects? The press release's first sentence states that FAA's and MDOT's grants "support" airfield construction projects - not that they fully fund them.

2) Don't act like the State of MS is benevolently propping up the city through this grant. The federal government, through the FAA, dispenses money for airport improvements in this State. As a condition, the State is required to match a small portion of that money. As the press release states: "MDOT grants are generally made available to support the ten (10) percent share requirement associated with AIP grants." If you really want to screw Jackson that badly, just tell the State to stop accepting this federal money.

So please, don't act like federal funding for MS's largest and busiest airport somehow equates to Jackson leeching off MS. The good news for you is that, since this grant is almost all federal money, you can avoid your tax dollars from going to this airport by not paying your federal taxes. Trump gets away with not paying federal income tax, and so can you! Please, try it! I can't wait to see how that works for you.

The socialist dems are up early this morning. Took only four posts to turn this into a Trump-Bash.

9:14, it takes a "socialist dem" to criticize someone for not paying their taxes? I had no idea this group loved non-taxpayers so much! What's next, do you guys all-of-the-sudden love renters too?

I am a non tax payer. Have been for over 5 years. I just couldn't see me paying my hard earned money to a govt. that sent so much overseas and gave so much to dead beats and the rest to crooked politicians.
I feel much better now.

10:36 then continued, while breathing heavily through his mouth, that not paying taxes made him "smart."

11:40, as long as the above poster does not break any laws he is smart. Everyone tries to pay as little taxes as possible. How many times have you sent in an extra check to the IRS?

A welfare city and a welfare state!

10:35 and 1:55 We only take standard deductions available to ALL taxpayers because we realize the money also goes to our support our national security at every level including armor for troops fighting on our behalf, to law enforcement and to pave highways and streets , to the Institute of Health and to the CDC, to name but a few.
We consider it a matter of patriotism and honor and fairness.
We also pay generous wages to those employees we know are critical to our success as we know we can't and didn't to it all alone.
We are in the top tax bracket but we have benefitted the most and have the most to lose if our Nation fails.
No man is an island but sociopaths, narcissists and con artists believe it's all about them. No one helped them by preparing the food on their tables or building the things that give them the freedom to engage in enterprise.
To us, it is the worst form of entitlement because you think it makes you superior to your fellow citizens.
We don't ask what our country can do for us, but what we can do for our country to make it a more perfect union.
We are also Christians and take seriously that it is easier for a camel to get through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get to Heaven and that greed is one of the deadly sins.
We have no need to prove our worth by showing off. Our worth is based on our integrity.
Our charitable contributions and tithes are not to gain recognition or praise.
While we agree that not all tax money is well spent, we think it more sensible to fight for changes in how money is spent rather than to make sure there is not enough money for that which makes us stronger.
You think you are smart. I think you are self-centered and think there is noting more important than yourself. You bitch about bad roads and bad water systems but you want those for free. You are no different from those welfare recipients you scorn. You both want something for nothing . Indeed you are worst because at least some of them haven't the ability or skills to provide for themselves. You are asking for a free meal, you are asking for a free highway and for me to be an unwilling investor in your business without profit sharing and to pay more for your goods or services than they are worth.

5:36, the IRS has a form that they will gladly give you to fill out and you can attach a check with extra tax money. You should know that already as I am sure you send in extra tax money every year.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
