MBN gets a new Top Narc

First Consul Phil Bryant issued the following proclamation:

Governor Phil Bryant Appoints John Dowdy Director of Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics

Jackson, Miss. – Gov. Phil Bryant announced today that he has appointed John Dowdy director of the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.

Dowdy replaces Sam Owens, who is retiring. Dowdy comes to MBN from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Mississippi, where he worked in the criminal division. Dowdy started in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in 1988.

“John’s decades of experience as a prosecutor make him a perfect fit to lead MBN,” Gov. Bryant said. “As a former law enforcement officer, I have made it a priority to rid our communities of the drug trade. John shares that commitment. I am delighted he has accepted this appointment.”

Dowdy’s appointment is effective Nov. 1.

"I want to thank Gov. Bryant for this opportunity,” he said. “It is an honor to serve the people of Mississippi as the director of the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.  As director, my priority will be to ensure that drug dealers are arrested, convicted and sent to prison in an effort to make our streets and communities safer for our citizens and children."

As chief of the criminal division, Dowdy oversaw dozens of narcotics investigations and prosecutions involving major drug trafficking organizations importing illegal narcotics into Mississippi with sources of supply in many cases linked to Mexican cartels. Dowdy also served on the executive committee of the Gulf Coast High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force.

Dowdy’s auxiliary responsibilities at the U.S. Attorney’s Office included coordinating task forces related to Katrina fraud, public corruption and environmental crimes. He served the office’s coordinator for victims’ rights, confidential human sources and crisis management.

Dowdy enjoyed a decorated career as a prosecutor. Among his honors are three Special Achievement Awards from the United States Department of Justice, the Director’s Award for Superior Performance as an AUSA in 1998 and the agency’s Certificate of Appreciation for his work reviewing FBI reports related to the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Dowdy graduated from Mississippi College with a bachelor of science in business administration. He earned his law degree from Mississippi College School of Law.

Next step in cleaning house is getting rid of Santa Cruz. Anyone who has any involvement with DPS knows he's the start of the incompetence and shady dealings.

Feel sometimes goofs up and makes an outstanding appointment. Dowdy is a good choice for Narcotics Director.

Dowdy is a great choice.

Good choice Ha. First of all Dowdy is no longer with the U.S. Attorneys Office. Second when does being a federal prosecutor give you knowledge of the workings of a state narcotics unit. Once again Marshall Fisher has made this choice just as he did with Sam Owens and Mike Perkins. Albert and Marshall are running Feel and that is clear.

3:01. As someone who deals with DPS on a regular basis, I concur. The level of incompetency, ignorance, and just plain stupidity with this state "agency" is astounding. ASTOUNDING.

Wayne's son? Or nephew? Strange political background considering his hiring into DOJ.

Yes. Wayne's nephew. His dad used to own a radio station in Gulfport. He comes from a family of lifelong democrats. It's interesting indeed.

/grew up together on the coast.

Even Barney Fife can find an acorn every now and then. I'm apolitical (don't care for either party's political bullshit) but Dowdy is a good man who doesn't give a rats ass about politics. He is about hunting down and prosecuting criminals. Never thought I would say it, good job Phil.

Dowdy

- from federal system where you can transfer someone you don't like to Alaska.

- state govt...can't fire or transfer anyone. MBN agents sued the bureau repeatedly and kept their jobs.

It's ungovernable and he will slide into the fold and it will be business as usual.....which....by the way....ain't all bad....just not about to be CSI.

7:51 - not questioning his ability or integrity. But was remembering him being family to ex-congressman Wayne. I would have to bet that he got his employment with US Atty through his political connection - nothing wrong with that either, BTW.

Just thinking it an interesting appointment for Phil to go to someone of this political bloodline.

Also married to the daughter of a democrat lawyer up in Cleveland. People who have languished in a federal job for several decades don't usually have the battery required to energize an agency this important.

But, Malcolm McMillan is too old and fat for the job and all the retired FBI guys are busy writing books.

In other words, he has NO law enforcement education or experience.

And for 8:04 - I work in state gov't. and my agency can transfer at will.

As a prosecutor I have always considered myself as law enforcement. My background in criminal justice, policing and drug detail make me well equipt to prosecute drug cases.

@8:15 AM
Hello, he is a narcotics prosecutor. That's why it's called "law school" by the way.

I've known Johnny for 40 years---what an incredible young man. His Mom and Dad raised him to always do the right thing. Good job on this appointment Phil.

"In other words" 8:15 has NO common sense.

"Law enforcement education and experience" Bwhahahahaha. What, a 10 week course doing pushups and flexing in the mirror? Or, 26 weeks at Club Fed? Putting cuffs on drunks? Or, as in Dowdy's case, 35 years of successful prosecution and jail time for bad guys on a "gubmint" salary? Law school? Just so you get some "law enforcement education" the Chief Law Enforcement Officer is the Attorney General. Not some hick with a tin and a BubbaMobile truck with blue lights. As a knuckle dragger myself, I not once ever put anyone in jail without a lawyer on both sides and one sitting on a bench. You don't just catch 'em. You have to clean 'em and cook 'em too. Dowdy's good, honest, hardworking, decent, takes care of cops and Agents, and puts bad guys away with a vengeance. Even defense bar and bad guys respect him. Good pick. Good man.

Perhaps Dowdy can teach his agents not to abuse their badge. Recently worked the gate at school football game and one showed his badge to avoid paying the $5 entry fee. A statewide elected official paid his admission, but an MBN agent used his badge for admission. If he abuses it that way, what else is he doing?

Does Dowdy have enough years for Fed retirement? He'll need a few more for state. Feel won't be around then.

I reckon he can run on the Brand Ticket for Governor when this gig is over.

I would vote for Mr. Dowdy today if he were running for Governor !!!!!

Anonymous said...

I'm sure you would, 2:18. After all, you recently voted for a truck driver.

One has to love "Narcs".

Soon enough he will be charged with his own controlled substance charge. My bet: Sustan 250, Winstrol, or Oxies.

We will all read about this guy soon enough.

NEVER PC

It is interesting Dowdys last case was the BP fraud case against plaintiffs lawyer Watts from Texas.....was facing prison time for fraud.

Dowdy quit knowing the case sucked......case still went to trial....Watts defended himself and whipped the Feds asses.

Wonder if he knew it was a stinker and quit in protest?

"....incredible young man." He's what? Almost 50?

TO: 5:25

When you are pushing the hell out of 74, 50 is very young !!!!!

He is really a great guy.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
