Whatever happened to just using fists?

JPD issued the following statement:

On Friday, September 23, 2016 at approx. 12:30 AM, Jackson Police Officers responded to Mangolia Rd. near Glenn Rose St. regarding a shooting. Upon officers’ arrival, it was learned that an unidentified male subject, 37, had been shot multiple times. He was pronounced deceased on scene. He was located on the side of the street near a water drainage area. During the course of the investigation, it was learned that the victim was allegedly involved in an altercation with another male subject at this location. Allegedly, both subjects produced handguns and began firing shots at one another. The other unidentified victim sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to Merit Health for medical treatment. He is listed in stable condition. At least one weapon believed to be used in this incident was recovered at the scene. Evidence was collected and Investigators are in the process of interviewing witnesses. This is an ongoing investigation and no charges have been filed at this time. Victims will be identified once more information is gathered and next of kin has been notified.

Kingfish note:
This brings to mind this old poem:

One bright day in the middle of the night,
Two dead boys got up to fight.
Back to back they faced each other,
drew their swords and shot each other.
A deaf policeman heard the noise
and ran to save the two dead boys.
If you don't believe this lie is true,
ask the blind man, he saw it, too.

Who can ever forget the fist fight in the movie "The Quiet Man". Sometime they can clear the air and get an argument over. Shooting one another seriously is going to destroy at least two lives if successful. Perhaps they will leave no one to mourn, and maybe death is a release for them, and that is what makes this doubly sad.

PS: I remember a poem something like that.

How many fights involving guns and multiple shootings have we had in Jackson this week? I've lost count!

There are WAY too many handguns on the streets, but the Legislature has prohibited cities from conducting buy-back programs. Go figure...

Just another dead person the law enforcement will change so the crime stats will look good. At least one dead person a day for the last 2 days.

We live in a gun culture and this is the price we pay. Everyone has the same rights, whether they have the maturity and self-control to handle it or not. That is the constitution. This country was built by the gun, whether we like to admit it or not, and killing people comes naturally when some people have a gun. When it's a hand gun you won't see it until it's too late. So unless the public resolves to adjust the 2nd amendment to make handguns practically impossible to obtain, like hand grenades, grit your teeth and get used to it. Just hope it ain't you next time.

Love the poem...did you write that

Bill, I agree there may be too many handguns on the streets. But buy back programs only work if criminals want to or are willing to sell their guns, which they don't and aren't. They want to keep their guns. The only people generally using the buy back programs are non-criminals. Buying guns from law-abiding citizens does not get them out of the hands of criminals or reduce crime; it only makes the criminals better able to rob the law-abiding citizens who are then unarmed.

How many times do we see a thug with a long history of criminal convictions get caught with a gun and nothing is done to them. Law enforcement needs to enforce the laws and the judges need to put these criminals in jail. How many times does a convicted thug have to be caught with a gun before he is sent to jail?

there was a time when duels were socially and culturally appropriate. where defending one's honor mattered.

this is a devolution.

10:18, all I can think to say is that you are an utter fool. Shootings would become an order of magnitude worse if "the public resolves to adjust the 2nd amendment to make handguns practically impossible to obtain....." Likewise, why don't we make illicit drugs illegal so people won't possess/sell/use them? Oh wait.......

Criminals (i.e., people who involve themselves in ILLEGAL activities) will not care two sh!ts how the "public resolves to adjust the 2nd amendment to make handguns practically impossible to obtain," in much the same way they ignore most other laws. As a result, how MUCH more commonplace do you believe shootings would be if these same criminals knew other people didn't have "a handgun they wouldn't see until it's too late?"

It boggles my mind how adherence to a certain liberal ideology causes people to lose any notion of cause-and-effect common sense.......I agree with Michael Savage when he said "Liberalism is a mental disorder"

I am beginning to think criminals are posting on this site. Why else would anyone suggest we get rid of all handguns? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that criminals do not obey laws. It would make their chosen profession much safer if they could depend on the law to prevent their intended victims a way to protect themselves.
People should be smarter than that.

Chicago has about the toughest gun laws in the nation. As of Wednesday of this week, there have been 524 murders in Chicago and nearly 3000 shootings! Gun laws are not the answer. More laws just take guns away from honest people. Just like more locks on your doors. Locks only keep honest people out.

Chicago 2016 Year to Date:
Year to Date
Shot & Killed: 488
Shot & Wounded: 2673
Total Shot: 3161
Total Homicides: 545

How does Jackson murder rate compare to Chicago per population?

Buyback programs are a risk free way to convert stolen or worthless firearms into cash... but aren't much good for anything else, except giving naïve people a false sense of safety. Some of the cash people receive from their roached out, worthless firearms is immediately put towards buying a better one.

Chicago's population is 2.7 million making it 15 to 20 times larger than Jackson. Using that, I'd say we're WAY ahead of them per cap.

Other data that's absent here, and is quite often left out of these reports, are knife victims. I think hospitals and emergency rooms refer to all/total wounds as "penetrations", be they gun, knife, machete, etc. Although 5-6 people are killed here each month, I reason to say probably 40-50 are injured and require various levels of extensive care.

Finally, I would guess that ZERO, none of these people, are on the Blue Cross plan.

10:25, thanks. I would agree that Jackson is a much more dangerous place that Chicago. Jackson is not a large city and Jackson and the whole state is usually forgotten when it comes to the national news.

You guys are soo right. We should send millions of handguns to all these foreign countries instead of financial aid. Give them to the "law abiding citizens" because the criminals are going to get them anyway, then those countries can be safe like we are. Make the world a safer place.

11:58 We should not be sending a damn thing to other countries until we take care of the people in this country.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
