Congressman Alan Nunnelee passes

Governor Phil Bryant and others issued these statements:

Gov. Phil Bryant Comments on the Passing of Congressman Alan Nunnelee

JACKSON – Gov. Phil Bryant issues the following statement on the passing of Congressman Alan Nunnelee.

"Alan Nunnelee has been like a brother to me and was one of my dearest friends and companions.  I will miss him greatly.  Deborah and I are praying for Tori and their children.  He was the best man I've ever known."

State Treasurer Lynn Fitch released the following statement on the passing of Mississippi Congressman Alan Nunnelee:

“I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my friend Congressman Nunnelee. Though he was a great Representative in Washington, his heart was in Mississippi. This is where he raised a family, built a business, and helped pass legislation that has left our state better. A man of great faith, he was always eager to give advice or tell a story. Even during his darkest hours, he remained selfless. He constantly looked for ways to help others while continuing to inspire those around him. Mississippi may have lost a great man, but our state is better for having known him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time.

Secretary Hosemann statement on the Passing of Congressman Alan Nunnelee

“Mississippi has lost a statesman, patriot, long-time public servant and valued leadership for our future and for our country.  Rarely does one individual possess these talents.  Alan possessed them all.  Lynn and I are praying for Tori and his family.”

Statement from Rep. Steve Holland Regarding the Death of Congressman Alan Nunnelee
Jackson, MS“Alan and I were at opposite ends of the political spectrum, but I always found him to be a gentleman, a patriot, a devoted public servant and a family man,” said Rep. Holland (D-Plantersville). “We shared the Public Health Chairmanships jointly for four years, and I found him principled, stoic, studious and stalwart. My heart bleeds for his wife, family and all of us who respected this outstanding public servant and model citizen.”

Speaker Gunn Statement on Passing of U.S. Congressman Alan Nunnelee

Jackson, MS“Our prayers are with U.S. Congressman Alan Nunnelee's family,” said Speaker of the House Philip Gunn. “He was an honorable leader and our friend from Clinton. We will miss him dearly. May he rest in peace.

Nunnelee's leadership will be missed. A fire breathing conservative compared to Gregg Harper.

In a few months as the cards get played everyone will learn why Whitwell moved to Oxford. You can always count on the establishment Republicans for coronations.

Whitwell will make an excellent Congressman, should he decide to run. EYHO nobody.

What a wonderful Mississippian Alan Nunnelee was! Can't believe those who are taking the opportunity of this day to talk politics. Certainly does not incline me toward their candidate. My prayer for blessings on his family who will miss him dearly as will we all.

Mike Tagert, the current transportation commissioner for the Northern District, would make an excellent Congressman.

The Repugnanticans ain't running Whitwell for Congress. They moved him up there to be the Haley owned replacement for the State Legislator that Boss Hogg has already annointed as Nunnelee's replacement. It is all rigged. Just watch.

1:27 said it well. Leave politics for another day. Gads! Mississippi has lost a respected voice. Have a little respect.

Yikes! I knew Alan is college. He was fearless who didn't mind doing the right thing even if the "groovy" people laughed and scorned him.

This isn't about politics. We have lost a good guy.

A terrible loss for Mississippi and for all who knew Alan. Sincerest condolences to his family.

MSGOP has known that Congressman Nunnelee was terminal for a long time. What they didn't know was the when.

After McDaniel's showing the establishment Republicans are scared to death that DeSoto County will produce a conservative with the ability to fundraise that the party apparat doesn't control.

Get ready for fireworks as the Party elites work to silence the voices of the rank-and-file voters yet again.

If Jim Hood ever had an eye on Congress this could be the time to make a move. He'd win that seat going away and then springboard right into the special election to replace Cochran.

Congressman Jim Hood and then Senator Jim Hood.

I haven't ever met someone who knew Alan and didn't like and respect him. They may have disliked his politics, but he treated everyone with decency and loved his family. Mississippi is better having people like Alan in charge.

Republican operatives already distributing Barbour machine talking points regarding Nunnelee replacement.

Expressing Condolences said...

R.I.P. Mr. Nunnelee. I've never known of white people to use the term 'passed', but that's beside the point.

The comments here are refreshing in that one man is so well rembered. That is uplifting in so many ways.

Alan Nunnelee was one of the few true Republicans in Mississippi before the party was bastardized to only do the bidding of the 3rd world dictator's lobbyist.

Barbour could not elect anyone when he was at the top of his game. Now people run from him.

I dare say that Jackson Jambalaya has morphed into Mississippi's free speech juggernaut.

Kudos to the Proprietor!!!!!

@9;26

Glad that you were able to express that thought. I too, am happy that I am able to disagree!

Would you care to discuss why you think that this website is the "worst thing to ever happen to Missisippi"?

Your world must be extremely limited.

"R.I.P. Mr. Nunnelee. I've never known of white people to use the term 'passed', "

OK, well I've known thousands of white people who have said someone "passed away".

Po-tay-to, Po-tah-to.

Over Jordan said...

Passed is a term used by black folk to refer to the demise of a black person.

Passed away is a term usually used by white people in reference to the death of a white person.

Nunnelee was white. Kingfish is white. Nunnelee passed away.

Nunnelee stepped on plenty of people during hid political ascent. Although I am sad for his family, the fact is that he was a successful politician, which requires a certain amount of collateral damage to innocent people in the name of building power. He was no saint.

You are absolutely correct. Very astute. The journalist running this operation is the worst thing ever to happen to the many scoundrels, crooks, urban brigands and politicos in Mississippi who do not want any public spotlight shined on their corruptions, crimes and misdeeds.

What is an 'urban brigand'? And stop posting as anon, KF!

KF doesn't post anonymously. But DonnerKay does. Here at JJ.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
