The Madison County Journal reported the Madison County Board of Supervisors received a study recommending three sites for a new airport. The Journal published these posts on its Facebook page yesterday:
Top three new sites range in total cost from $43 million to $62 million. To expand Madison Airport, cost would be $97.9 million, engineers say.
To expand Bruce Campbell Airport in Madison, officials said it would affect 400 residents in two neighboring subdivisions.
Top site for airport is situated between Highway 43 and the Ross Barnett Reservoir.
MCEDA is presenting Project Phoenix, a study on a future county airport, before the Board of Supervisors.

what a waste of money! there's already an international airport in rankin county--put $40 million into that airport!
Mary has been wanting houses on that airport land for 30 years.
Somebody inform 12:42 that the Jackson-Evers "International Airport" is sitting on property owned by the City of Jackson and governed by a board controlled by Jackson-oriented interests. Don't drag Rankin County into it.
Who owns the land "situated between Highway 43 and the Ross Barnett Reservoir"?
Beyond Stupid.
Anyone who flies in and out of MBO on a regular basis (or ever for discussion here) knows that:
1) There IS NOT too much traffic
2) The runway is plenty long enough (allowing Cessna Citation X's as well as anything smaller)
3) There is plenty of room on the SW portion of current airport land to build additional hangers, which is the only thing MBO lacks.
4) One runway is plenty, surely the plan doesn't call for 2 runways
I'd be interested to know who owns the land of said recommended sites. Political ties to anyone?
Again, amazing how stupid of an idea this is.
2:48-last time I checked a map, the international airport is completely surrounded by Rankin county. Therefore it sits IN Rankin county. The current airport has easy interstate access and isn't in a crime ridden area. Why spend all that money on an airport that isn't needed? Spend, spend, spend on new things....

Looks like another pork barrel project for Rudy
War nock.
It's all about spending money needlessly and lining someone's pockets! They should be called the Madison County Board of Spenders! If they have an abundance of money burning holes in their pockets, they might try some road improvements within the county or have the Supervisors checked the roads in their districts, lately?
If the current Madison airport is shit-canned, isn't there a take-back clause requiring the land go back to the federal government?
3:05 pm is right. Last time this idea surfaced, it was corporate interests in North and West Mississippi who didn't want to drive an extra 30 minutes to the Jackson airport if they could get the taxpayers to build them a closer airport and one wanted to be able to buy a larger corporate jet.
The truth is the usage then and most likely the usage now wouldn't justify taxpayer dollars.
And, I don't know what revenues Madison gets from the current airport, but comparing that to tax revenues from high end residential homes on that site could be a factor or who would profit from a new airport or residential development if possible would be important to know.
This airport will be needed so all of the MLB, NBA, NFL teams, and A list entertainers can easily get in and out of the area once Jackson builds their baseball stadium, NBA arena, and dome. Great to see the metro's finest visionary politicians partnering with each other to keep the common folk entertained.
Isnt this the third or fourth time a horribly expensive study has been done for a new airport in madison county? Hasnt Warnock profited from two or more of these?
I live a little north of the top proposed site. The students taking flight classes and the recreational pilots out of Bruce Cambell flying over my house all day everyday is bad enough, I can only imagine what I'm in for if this airport goes through.
Not long ago some residents of Canton fought against and won over a man who built an airstrip, with out the necessary permits, just east of the Canton Country Club. He wanted to build a "Fly In" subdivision. Similar to Slobovia Field at Pochahontas. He went as far as building the runway, taxi way and hangar pads. He had no plan or plat for the development. No plan for infrastucture. If I remember correctly, he was eventually shot down on it because of its proximity to the new highs chool off HWY 43 going north out of Canton.
I'm not an expert on land records, but when you search the tax rolls by road names listed in the top 3 sites, on 1, records pull up showing a big chunk of land is owned by a company that shares the same name as the name of the airport study itself, and another site pulls up an ownership entity including a similar name to one of those appearing on a supervisor's fund raiser invitation. Maybe somebody who is good at this sort of stuff should look into it. Not familiar with searching these things, the names or the geographic areas involved. Just pointing out some coincindences. All coincindences I am sure.
