Horne hearing: the sequel

Here is a little bonus coverage for you of the Horne hearing yesterday.  Ms. Horne said under her breath in a voice that was quite audible the word "asshole" while in the courtroom after her case was adjudicated.  The Kingfish couldn't pass up the opportunity to ask her about her vocabulary in this video. Thanks to WAPT for providing JJ with the raw footage.

So a lady who works for a Hinds County Circuit Court Judge as a court reporter pleads guilty to a crime in Rankin County, City of Pearl Municipal Court, calls someone who works for the Pearl court system an asshole, then has a Judge immediately expunge her conviction of only seconds earlier after he convicts her? With ZERO explanation offered as to why? No wonder most folks in Mississippi have ZERO respect for anything here, what we are living in here in Mississippi is a first class authentic BANANA REPUBLIC!

Must be nice to have judges in your back pocket

I'm really pissed Kingfish. 25,000 people are poised to move into downtown Jackustan and you are screwing it all up with your first person fully sourced reporting. Stop it, just stop it. All of us Jacksonians need to be ripped off more.

Lady? What lady? That ain't no lady, buddy.

its pretty obvious her comment was directed at Kingfish. it was wrong and there's no excuse for it.

misdemeanors get expunged routinely every day in every lower court in Mississippi. nothing to see here, move along...

You're wrong 8:44. DUIs do not get routinely dismissed or expunged every day in this state. There is *everything* to see here. Justice system at its worst.

You guys can think what you like but in all my dealings with Ms. Horne, she has never been anything but gracious and professional. It's not hard to get in trouble with a cop and this is the police department that was sued for pulling a nasty prank on a mentally challenged man.

Unfortunately, there is nothing anyone can do to change the situation at this time.
Never fear, things have a way of catching up with people. Sometimes later than sooner, but it is coming...

One of these court reporters was arrested and pled guilty in Warren county a while back. There is no telling how many times they have been in trouble in Hinds county and made those charges disappear.

Sometimes good things happen to awesome people!!! I am happy for her because she happens to be an awesome person doing a great job in a bad system for a fraction of the money she could earn and deserves to earn if she worked in the private sector!!!

It wasn't directed at me.

@9:39,
She wasn't driving and wasn't charged with DUI, the other reporter was. AFAIK, that DUI conviction has not been expunged.

kingfish, this is borderline harrassment. case is over. leave it at that. Don't let this overshadow your good journalism.

She's a 'good person' doing a grande job in a bad system so she gets a f**king pass for her inappropriate behavior. Is this ghetto logic or whut?

I'm tired of hearing about this. Can we please move on to something more newsworthy? I want to know more about the lawsuit on Pearl PD from a prank on a mentally challenged person?

Kingfish said...

Its a legit question. She said in the courtroom. Jessica from WLBT and I both saw her do it and heard it loud and clear. Bert Case would've done the same thing.

I wanna see kingfish go interview all Rankin County constables that were involved in the payoffs a few years ago. You might be interested what one of them has to say about where the REDFERN grows.
I'm reminded about a Glen Frey song..."Payoff's in the ripoffs and the things nobody saw".

Oh wait, the economic development, or the lack thereof, in the City of Jackson is more important.

... this is borderline harrassment [SIC} ...

Please get over yourself.

I'm tired of hearing about this. Can we please move on to something more newsworthy?

Really? I want to hear MORE about this. You are free to not read anything here should you not find it "newsworthy".

Move along now little doggie. The JFP is probably more your speed.

So she called you an "asshole", kingfish. What, are you feeling like a minnow? Let it go. Move on, geeez

Alright, I will bite, the Pearl Lawsuit was with Huey Granger. They probably did mistreat him a bit but he is a mean spirited butthole who is not as mentally challenged as he tries to appear. I have had dealings with the guy and I believe he is faking some of his injuries hoping for a Pearl PD payout. Huey may have some type of problem but he probably has a fairly high IQ and is pissed at what pranks they did to him.

As for the case at hand, they should have been convicted and treated as others but they were basically let go as they are part of the power persons of Jackson. The laws really only do apply to people without political power. These ladies have folks in power beholding to them, you can guess how those favors are secured.

One of my English Comp teachers used to say, "Always use 'woman,' not 'lady.' You know if she is a woman. You don't know if she is a lady." It's pretty easy to tell in this case.

Kingfish said...

Wasn't directed at me. She said it while walking away from the bench. It was quite obvious she was referring to the police, judge, or prosecutor.

Jane and Leslie,

First, this is about Ms. Horne and her actions and associations. Not something that happened 10 years ago at a department by officers that are no longer there.

Second, "gracious and professional" do not describe someone that uses the word asshole in a courtroom, especially if they also work in one and have respect for the setting. Yes these two women work in a bad, even corrupt, system. The problem is that their bosses are the reason that it is that way.

This issue is so upsetting to most of the JJ readers because no one wants to see the surrounding counties' judicial system devolve into the bizarre model of inaction, corruption, and unethical rulings that is the norm for Hinds. It really boils down to expectations. We expect the courts in M/R to operate in an impartial professional manner, and we expect the Hinds system, and their employees, to operate on the other end of the spectrum.

The LEO who arrested them should have known who they were and just tipped his hat with a wink and a nod. These women KNOW people with some judicial power and I bet the arresting agency got that message loud and clear. Madison is not far enough.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
