Savage gets 25 years for beating mom and girlfriend.

Rankin-Madison District Attorney Michael Guest issued the following press release:

Four-Time Convicted Felon Receives 25-year Sentence For Assaulting His Mother and Girlfriend

Madison and Rankin Counties’ District Attorney Michael Guest announced today that Ronald Derrick White was convicted by a jury last week of aggravated and simple assault of a person over the age of 65. White was sentenced on Monday and received a 25-year sentence. White was convicted and sentenced as a habitual offender, and therefore he will be required to serve his entire sentence and will not be eligible for probation, parole or early release.

On the morning of January 1, 2013, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call at 122 Sykes Avenue in Florence. The caller stated that White had been drinking earlier that evening and once he had returned to the residence he began to violently attack his girlfriend. When officers arrived, they discovered the victim covered in blood. The victim was transported by ambulance to the hospital where it was then determined she had broken bones to the face and nose, broken ribs, missing teeth and a lacerated liver.

Investigators from the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department began to speak to witnesses at the scene and learned that the altercation began outside the residence. The mother and father of White tried to calm him down as the victim ran into the house and locked the door. White then proceeded to kick in the door to the residence and beat the victim until she lost consciousness. White’s mother was also injured when White punched and pushed her as she tried to prevent the assault.

White was arrested and taken to the Rankin County Jail. The following day, White was interviewed by investigators from the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department. He admitted that he had assaulted his girlfriend following a verbal altercation.

Guest stated, “White is a violent individual who has been in and out of prison a half dozen times over the last the fifteen years. He has been convicted of crimes throughout the metro area, and will finally be held accountable for his criminal acts. White will now spend the next 25 years of his life behind bars to pay for his cowardly assault of these two women.”

Guest added, “The jury in reaching their verdict rejected White’s arguments that these crimes did not arise to the level of felony offenses. The testimony at trial showed that White had no remorse for the injuries that he caused his girlfriend and his mother, and the jury found White guilty on both counts after deliberating for less than an hour.”

Guest concluded, “The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department did an outstanding job, and because of their rapid response, they prevented White from causing more harm to the victim. This cause is an example of how the criminal justice should work as a habitual offender was arrested, tried, convicted and sentenced in a period of only a few months.”

White has previous felony convictions from Hinds, Madison and Rankin County. His convictions include: Burglary of a Dwelling, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Felony DUI and Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon. White had been released from prison less than six weeks prior to these convictions. He was released from the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections onto Earned Release Supervision on November 19, 2012, following his incarceration on a probation revocation.

District Attorney Michael Guest was sworn into office in January 2008 and represents the Twentieth Judicial District, which encompasses Madison and Rankin Counties. For more information about the District Attorney’s office, please visit www.daguest.com.

White does the deed in January of this year and is sent packing for 25 big ones by a Judicial District that actually gets the job done 7 1/2 months later.

In the shit hole that is Hinds he would have been released and either not seen trial for 2-3 years or pled to a lesser charge of jaywalking.

Jackson and Hinds are lost.

Here's my question: if he is a four-time convicted felon and, therefore, eligible for habitual treatment AND didn't cop a plea, why wasn't he indicted under the "big bitch" requiring him to serve life without parole? Obviously, the most recent felony would make him eligible since it is a crime of violence. Not that it matters much, just curious if anyone knows the answer.

Not true comment at 11:10 AM. The habitual rule including a violent felony to give life does NOT look at the current charge, it looks at the past convictions. There must be a violent in the PRIORS not the current charge. This is a factor in the law that makes no sense to many of us

12:02 its to keep someone with no violent past from getting the big bitch. if someone got three felonies for shoplifting, then commited a fourth, under our reasoning we would putting, and paying for, putting a simple thief in for life. also some concerns that such a scheme would survive a Solem v. Helm analysis, it might but it might not.

yada yada yada to the legal goobs. Of importance here is the rapid response of Madison/Rankin law enforcement/District Attorney and meaningful sentencing. It would NOT have happened in Hinds County. And Epps would be on the stand in Hinds arguing that the system is too full and we need an ankle bracelet in this case.

Hinds County has made great strides since Robert Shuler Smith took office. The pending cases have been cut almost in half and violent crimes get to trial, on average, within 15 months. JPD is another story...

Shuler Smith's office is a plea bargain sieve.

JPD is in Hinds County, thus, all JPD crimes are in Mr."out to lunch, ill or on vacation in South America, etc." Smith's" jurisdiction.

Yes! to the last two posts.

So what does this have to do with Jackson? This sounds like a Rankin County problem to me. Jerks.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
