Here is our position on Chick-Fil-A

This video will be my contribution to the entire debate and this will probably by the only post by me on the subject unless I get more column submissions. All I will say is if this video doesn't turn you on, I won't question your orientation, I'll just think you're just plain nuts. ;-) (That was directed at you, Auburn Rat)

However, since I did publish the column by Senator McDaniel, I think equal time is in order so here are the tweets by her Laddness on the matter this week.

Know what you were called if you stood up for equal rights for blacks in 1964? A liberal, a socialist, a communist. #chikfila

In 1964, not enough good people stood up for other people's rights to love and marry who they want. What will we do in 2012? #chikfila

When ppl throw around "free speech" to complain abt other ppl exercising it, you're seeing serious ignorance of what it means. #ChickFilA

Pics of people camped out at #ChickFilA will show up in future history books like the protesters against black rights do. #wearyourlipsrick

Donna Ladd ‏@DonnerKay
The bigots then twisted the Bible for hateful use and didn't stop to think they were on wrong side of history. Choose love. #ChickFilA

Those jeering photos of your ancestors turning out to shout down blacks trying to vote or integrating Woolworth? That'll be you. #ChickFilA

Many people are proudly celebrating a Day of Bigotry today. Be forewarned: the history books aren't going to look kindly at it. #ChickFilA

Donna Ladd ‏@DonnerKay
RT @huffpostgay: We Are Not Arguing Over Chicken -- one of the smartest pieces we've read on Chick-fil-A controversy http://huff.to/SYXsOj

And this one exchange:

@rebelpol @DonnerKay Honey, calm down, it's chicken. You and the idiots who stand in line for fast food are exhausting. Have a glass of wine.
Ladd Donna Ladd ‏@DonnerKay

@rebelpol As for your lame personal insult, Todd and I are vegetarian and haven't eaten any animal flesh in 15 years. I don't like any ...
.fast food other than occasional biscuit on a road trip. But that has nothing to do with this assault on rights of gay folks.

@rebelpol Beyond that, I don't know you but that was one of the more boorish comments I've seen in a while. Grow up; people's rights matter.

To heck with all this chicken and gay talk. It's boring.

Now to something important. I'm ready for some SEC college football, and this video will get you ready, too. Turn up your speakers and find this link:

OK, as a regular reader of your blog, and as a gay man of age,I will post the first and probably only statement on this issue. Most want to approach this as an attack on the CEO's right to free speech. That is unquestionably guaranteed him under the Constitution. All should welcome to make his comments regarding his beliefs. However the troubling issue is the company's millions$ contributed to anti-gay groups, presumably before the same-sex marriage question ever arose. Had this company given those funds to the KKK, or to anti-Catholic, anti-Baptist, or anti-Jewish groups, would the citizenry still laud it as done Thurday? This hyprocisy was connivingly conceived by a former Baptist preacher/governor, pretender to the Presidency, who hopes to be a successful TV/radio personality. He's a Huckster, that is his name, Huckabee - maybe a huckster-wannabee. I hope Fil-A has rewarded him well for his big shenanigan that has done nothing more than to increase intolerance, and divide friends, neighbors, and family members.
The hurt has been done, and in some cases it has been severe. All because of a damned chicken sandwich maker's words and a failed ultra-conservative politician's attempt to regain popularity. Just my thoughts - have your own.....

It would appear to me a lot of people are against the letter "K". Maybe I should protest by kissing Shaowfax. Nah then I might get labeled.

I think if we as a society politically change the word marraige to a matrimonial ceremony you take the relegious arguement out of the scenario. And secondly in each partnership there needs to be a alpha and a beta this comes in handy to the third issue which will be same sex divorce...

Look, KF (and screw Tom Head), this is a more important issue on the grand scheme of our lives than a stupid prick squirting two inches of water on the floor of a damned jail in Raymond.

To 1:36 please provide an example of an anti gay group that this company provided funding to. The best I can determine, if someone is not on board in supporting gay marriage, they are labeled anti-gay. I don't have anything against gays, but I don't support gay marriage. Does that make me an anti-gay person?

2:47 In a word, yes.

You need to report to re-indoctrination camp immediately.

Just because every major government and every major religion for about, oh, two millenia, has recognized marriage as a relationship between one man and one woman does not mean those billions of people were correct -they were haters who have not benefited from the wisdom of Donner Kay and her ilk.

I always love it when gay people of age, any age, conveniently look past the extreme stances of the Islamic "faith" when it comes to matters of homosexuality. When are y'all going to protest in front of the mosques in this country?

People are missing the bigger picture. Gay marriage could singlehandedly turn our economy around. Imagine the gift registries, wedding planners, and eventually divorce lawyers. Business will be booming!

Opinions are a dime a dozen, and here's mine (I owe you a couple of dimes, KF)

1) A man was asked his opinion. He gave his opinion. Freedom of Speech. You have your right to say what you want, he has his right to say what he wants.

2) We have Freedom of Religion, not Freedom FROM Religion. I believe there is a difference in the person and the action. I try to always respect the person and treat him/her with kindness, but that does not mean I support the conduct. If you don’t have the capacity to separate the person from the conduct, then how is it possible that the family of someone who commits a crime can still stand by their family member with love and support? They don’t support what has happened but they separate that conduct from the person and still love the person. Personally, I am a Christian and in this particular issue, I treat any person who is gay just like I would treat anyone else but I don’t support the conduct/lifestyle.

3) Any person or company can contribute THEIR money anywhere they want. Every time I see bitchin about that issue, can’t help but shake my head because it sounds like a child who didn’t get a particular toy they wanted (You gave Timmy a toy truck and you didn’t give me one too!). If you want to contribute to a cause, go for it. It’s your money. I believe that this particular company contributes and sponsors several things.

4) Several government officials decided they forgot the definitions of discrimination and unconstitutional. The ACLU’s senior attorney even came out and stated, “The government can regulate discrimination in employment or against customers, but what the government cannot do is to punish someone for their words.” Also said if a government could exclude a business for being against same-sex marriage, it can also exclude a business for being in support of same-sex marriage.

5) There are some who have cherry picked items from different parts of the Bible in discussing this issue. I read something and the author made a great point---can’t pick up a book, read one paragraph out of the middle, then close the book and declare you know all there is to know from that book. If all you've got is a sentence to through out there, read the Book from beginning to end and you’ll find your answers. One other thing about cherry picking….I do not believe that we are to do whatever we want, then real quick find something from the Bible that we can use to say its ok. We are suppose to be guided by the Bible and do what He asks. When we falter, and we all will, we have the choice to stay on that course or change directions and try again. There’s a reason all are welcome in a church. If people who committed sin were kept out, then the church would be empty and every human being would be standing in the parking lot.

To me, this was a very big item to cover because it hit on so many different issues: faith, freedoms of religion and speech, gov officials discriminating and declaring war when it would be unconstitutional for them to do so, etc.

@ 2:47, the most flagrant offender to which Chick-fil-a has donated money is the Family Research Council. Labeled by the Southern Law Poverty Center as a "hate group" in 2010, this organization is pretty rank. Their senior researcher, Peter Sprigg, has said some awful things about gays. Namely:

1) Ending "Don't Ask, Don't Tell would lead to more servicemen receiving unwelcome same-sex fellatio in their sleep. Sprigg has frequently commented that gay men are more likely to be sex offenders than anyone else.

2) Gays should be exported from the United States.

3) Gays should be imprisoned.

The company also donates to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the National Christian Foundation which, while not nearly as extreme, often promote and celebrate the "curing" or "conversion" of homosexuals.

Marriage being exclusive to a man and woman is nothing new. It's been this way for thousands of years and saying its stupid and hateful is discrediting entire generations of religious faithful, and assuming that you are wiser than all of these generations.

This "attack" on gays seems really mild compared to the attacks on blacks and Jews. Also really mild to the attack on the unborn - they actually get killed. Slight difference in the "gay attack". Last I checked, as individuals, gays have all the rights as straight people do.

Chic Fil A also donates to pro life groups. Does this mean they are launching hate attacks on women?

Gays are free to get married in any faith they choose that supports gay marriage. Chic Fil A is free to believe in their own faith and to donate to any organizations that believe and work to further those beliefs.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos donated $2.5 million to help pass a same-sex marriage referendum in Washington Sate. I do not see ONE SINGLE 'right wing hater' calling for a boycott of Amazon. I will support Dan Cathy's right to free speech. I will buy Chick-Fil-A's and throw them in the trash because i do not eat that stuff, but I do believe in the first amendment. This man has a right to his opinion and he has the right to voice his opinion. When we let left wing idiots force us to bow down to their beliefs, our country will come to an end.

@ 4:05, with all due respect, the Southern Poverty Law Center, according to search on internet,

-In February 2006, “at Fayetteville State University in Arkansas, Bond [group's first President] warned that Republicans’ “idea of equal rights is the American flag and the Confederate swastika flying side by side,” the Fayetteville Observer reported. When his comments provoked a firestorm of criticism, Bond lied, denying he likened the GOP to the Nazi Party. He accused “right-wing blogs” of mischaracterizing his statement: “I didn’t say these things I’m alleged to have said. There is no one in the audience who can say I said them.” How wrong he was: The Observer posted a 45-minute recording of Bond’s speech online.”

-In 2012, according to a press release, Black pastors confronted the Southern Poverty Law Center for smearing as ‘hate groups’ pro-family organizations opposed to homosexual agenda.

As a Christian, I believe homosexualtiy is a sin. No greater sin than any other sin that we all face. We, as Christians, should remember that we are not above anyone. Elevating ones self out of pride is in itself a sin. We can stand for and promote our position but that doesn't mean that we are out to get anyone or hurt anyone.

In the end, we will all have to answer for our sins. Question is "Are you forgiven?"

Anonymous said...

On the polictial side, as much right as you have to stand on the sidewalk and profess homosexualtiy, I have the right to speak against it. You can't get mad and get your feelings hurt if express my opinion when asked.

Col. Reb Sez said...

To the second Anonymous Poster: One of the problems is everyone keeps saying that Chick-Fil-A has donated "millions" or $5 million to anti-gay groups. This simply is not true.

More than 50 percent of the WinShape's annual giving goes to a group that sponsors marriage counseling and couple's retreats. My research indicates that this group has not in any way been active in gay politics (although some of its founders were)

25 percent goes to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, which suddenly finds itself branding a "hate group" because it wants its leaders to refrain from sex outside marriage or homosexual affairs. Same as the Boy Scouts!

The company has made some very small donations to groups that I agree gays have every right to find objectionable, but we're talking thousands, not millions. And in fact most companies will have such donations on the books that offend someone.

So if you want to complain about the thousand a year to Exodus, go ahead. But stop slandering the company.

1) agree...but everyone suffers the consequences of running their mouth off publicly
2)That's not true. Our Founding Fathers were from people who suffered at the hands of religious leaders. The Inquisition was still remembered by them. They cared about both freedom of AND freedom from . Their emphasis was FREEDOM.
3) It is bad business practice for a company to involve themselves in politics. When they do, they risk suffering the consequences of alienating potential customers. Yes, they can do it. It's stupid, and causes trouble and is divisive, but they can do it.
4)Agree..but stupid actions usually get equally stupid reactions
5) Lots in the Bible about how you treat people...even sinners... and there's that " rendering unto Caesar". Also, lots in there about letting God sit in judgment of others behavior and about the smote in your own eye.
Those who wrote the Bible thought the Earth was flat. Our Founding Fathers didn't address slavery so if they thought it ok to own people, should we? That something was thought right for 1000s of years doesn't seem a very good argument. By the way, I have read the Bible from cover to cover every year for over 50 years now.

Penguins are monogamous and have homosexual as well as heterosexual life long relationships. Did God make a mistake when He created penguins?

If God did the same with us, then many Christians are putting their immortal soul at risk.

I think some of you are really brave, given scientific advancements in genetic research and research on the human body in general, and the fact that the men who wrote the Bible were humans who might have heard God's word in the context of their period of history and erred a bit here and there inadvertently, to be willing to go to Hell on this one.

For me, I think Christians take less risk with their immortal soul just to focus on the reported words of Christ.

Some of you don't seem to get it that most people don't give a flip about what Chic Fil A's CEO says or does. We all know that everyone is entitled to have our own opinion and can express it, and we are all entitled to spend and give our money away to whoever we want. In fact it's no one else's business. The same thing applies to Chic Fil A and it's leaders. Get over yourself if you don't like this and find another battle to write pages about. You have LOST this one BIG TIME. About all you can do is not buy Chic Fil A, but that's not going to help either, because most people who support their right to speak out and give their money to whoever they want are going to go there now more than ever because of you.

Anonymous said...

9:48am apparently you are right. People have no sense of anything more important than themselves anymore...like how their words and actions affect others or society.

We should all raise our children to disparage others, sit in judgement like the old neighborhood busybody, be as rude and inconsiderate as possible, teach them when they first earn money that they can donate to Nazis or jihadists if they want, cause it's THEIR money. And, we should teach them to act on their feelings and not use their brain or try to think before they speak or act. They should argue rather than try to get along with others as well and the other guy doesn't have rights or opinions to be respected.

Indeed, THAT is what we are teaching them by example.

A rude.self-centered, arrogant jerk is a rude,self-centered arrogant jerk whether he's politically on the left or on the right.

CFA has given over 80 million to charity, for scholarships or for foster homes. Of that 80m, around 8m went to their charitable arm (I think it is called Winsome). Of that 8m, around 2m went to what CFA's detractors call anti-gay hate groups, like the FCA. A reasonable examination of the 2m in question would show that about 7k went to reprehensible groups. That is less than .0000009 of their total charitable giving.

Additionally, over the last 24 years, their have been 12 discrimination suits filed against CFA, none of which were filed by homosexuals.

While I would question the intelligence of publicly stating his opinion, he has a right to do so. It does not appear that CFA's practices remotely resemble what their detractors are saying.

What ever happened to Church and State isn't marriage a biblical tradition. The last time I checked the constitution had those words in it somewhere. I am not the smartest guy in the world but I look at it like this who cares if a gay couple wants to get married they should have the same rights as everyone else. This whole argument is based on a word and nothing more. As for CFA I didn't go on Thursday because I went Wednesday and Monday they have a good product so I buy their product I could care less what the owner said or didn't say. The man answered a question he was asked that is all.

Funny how the attack on the FCA is NOT being reported by the local tablog that fancies itself a newspaper.

It is appalling to think the liberal media extremists, which I am now convinced of, can assert that "guns are a problem" and easily overlook the LGBT activist (labelled terrorist by authorities) as a nothing story.

Additionally, the FCA stands for family. I'm not really understanding how that is hate. If I am not mistaken, those who choose to not "procreate" are in and of themselves choosing not to have children or a traditional family. That's OK. That is their choice.

To have what is a majority value - having a family - labelled a "hate group" by the SPLC is wrong.

I am amazed we as a society are allowing core values of our society be usurped by minority interests and whittled away to marginalization. Having a traditional family is NOT extreme, it is NOT an occurrence that happens on the margins, it is a core value of American society. It must be represented just like every other interest our society has.

The lack of reporting or the "spin" on this particular act of violence is abhorrent and yet another example of why we need change.

In closing, the liberals are backed up against the wall with their blind tolerance of "anything goes" and they appear to be unable to even admit they are wrong when it is staring them in the face. I pity them.

Rant over.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
