More Two Lakes Derangement Syndrome: JFP smears Hosemann or....JFP Tablogging at its finest.

OHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSH!!!! THE STATE IS TRYING TO TAKE OVER THE LEVEE BOARD. OHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSH!!! or at least that is what I thought after reading the latest article in the Jackson Free Press on the Rankin-Hinds Pearl River Drainage and Flood Control District. The headline states: "State again tries to take over the levee board". Adam Lynch writes:
" Board attorney Trudy Allen told the board that Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann has listed the Levee Board, which to date has operated independently of the state, as a state agency in Mississippi's 2010 Blue Book of state agencies." The accompanying picture of Secretary of State Delbert Hoseman has the caption "Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann wants to designate the Rankin-Hinds River Flood and Drainage Control District as a state agency." Article

It wasn't just one or two sentences as Lynch again stated:
"Hosemann's spokeswoman Pam Weaver said the Secretary of State's Office lists all boards and commissions in the bluebook, but did not explain the the reason for designating it as a state agency.

The latest attempt to gain authority over the Levee Board comes three months...."

Wow. So IS the state trying to take over the Levee Board? I was alarmed, as after reading Lynch's story and Ms. Allen's remarks, I was fearful the state might try to take over this distinguished and well-respected body. I decided to look through the Blue Book itself. Want to know where the Levee Board is listed? Under "Natural Resources" on page 462 along with the Pearl River Industrial Commission, Chickasaw Natural Gas Board, DEQ, DWFP, Environmental Quality Permit Board, Mississippi Levee Board, Gulf States Marine Fisheries, Mississippi Soil and Water Conservation Commission, Pat Harrison Waterway District, Pearl River Basin Development District, Pearl River Valley Water Supply District, Tenn-Tom Waterway Development Authority, State Oil and Gas Board, Tombigbee Valley Authority, and Yazoo Mississippi Delta Joint Water Management District. Page 231

Ok, I breathed easier. The current edition of the Blue Book apparently listed all government agencies in Mississippi that dealt with natural resources whether they be state agencies or boards governed and funded by local governments. A further examination revealed on page 236 the Blue Book has a section designated for county governments. All county governments, supervisors, and county officials were listed in the publication. A section for municipal governments starts on page 338 and does the same for municipal governments in Mississippi. I finally relaxed when I realized the Blue Book is a reference book and the Secretary was merely including all government agencies in Mississippi, including all boards, districts, and commissions.

It also doesn't help matters when the JFP reports "Board attorney Trudy Allen told the board that Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann has listed the Levee Board, which to date has operated independently of the state, as a state agency in Mississippi's 2010 Blue Book of state agencies." when an actual reading of the Blue Book reveals Hosemann did no such thing. One can only hope Ms. Allen will send a clarification of what she meant or a correction to the JFP or this website.

Why then did the Jackson Free Press use a listing of the Levee Board as an excuse to say Hoseman was trying to "designate the Rankin-Hinds River Flood and Drainage Control District as a state agency"? One must wonder if the JFP is actually trying to report the facts or instead is pursuing a rabid jihad against anything it imagines might be related to Two Lakes. It would have helped if Lynch had actually covered his assignment as several people at the meeting informed JJ Mr. Lynch arrived late, walked around, would leave the meeting for awhile, then return, and didn't tape any part of the meeting.

The JFP smeared Delbert Hosemann and completely fabricated these accusations against Mr. Hosemann as there is no evidence whatsoever he is trying to "designate" the Levee Board as a "state agency". This is just another attempt by Ladd & Lynch to engage in more Two Lakes hysteria.

How stupid! It's a list of agencies, boards and commissions!

Did Mrs. Allen state if she had talked with Mr. Hoseman or was this just her theory and the JFP just couldn't help it from biting? Hmmmm? Wonder what else they would print as long as it met their agenda?
Why did the levee board not want to be considered a state agency anyway?
Smells a little fishy to me!

Good grief, if what is in the Blue Book somehow had the force of law, the typos in the last few editions alone probably would have reversed elections, changed county seats, and renamed many state and local officials.

Methinks Mr. Lynch should consider that adequate research means that a) context matters and b) context is more than what is listed before and after. The overall section is titled "Agencies, Commissions and Boards," with "Natural Resources" being a subheading.

You know, I used to think people slammed against JFP so much because they disagreed with the liberal politics, but the more of them I read, the more I see how VERY BAD at journalism they are.

The RHPRD&FCD Board knows that votes in each county to massively increase property taxes to pay for levees will never pass.

With each bout of alarm and hysteria the JFP confirms that Two Lakes -- the ONLY net tax revenue accretive solution -- is far, far, far from dead.

You obviously haven't been reading or listening very closely. The criticism has been about bad journalism AND their political agenda from the outset.

Dig deeper KF. Members of the Levee Board and certain engineering firms have found it simple to manipulate the JFP into doing their dirty work. In the end, it won't be the JFP or the people of Jackson who profit.

I don't care if the JFP is liberal, tabloidish, conservative, dark, light, funny; but, I do expect, at a minimum for a tabloid publication, facts. When the facts are spun, that shows intent by the Editor, who I hold responsible for the voice. So, at this point, they took a piece of information and manufactured, what appears to me, another attempt to kill the Two Lakes plan. What bothers me most is, why? I am convinced Two Lakes is just the type of development Jackson needs to get the city on the revival track. I don't buy that a bunch of hippies (I am one) are going to paint enough paintings, rehab enough houses in Fondren, invest in enough resale shops, fund the local coop, etc. to bring the city out of their downward to level spiral.

Rock On KINGFISH!! This board has been operating under the radar for waaaay too long. It's time to cast a little light on what's going on over there and not just the typical JFP negative propaganda on the Two Lakes folks.
I wish the state would take over this board, at least something might get done. Hell, even make McGowan the director! We all know he'd "Get'Er Done" just like everything else he's ever done.

Creative class bubble economics that has failed, and is failing, in city after city throughout the nation. Richard Florida himself now admits that regardless of desire and copious investment some cities won't be successful therefore 'creatives' may have to move to other cities if living in utopia is their life priority.

Oh my gosh, 3:55, THANK YOU! This is 3:52 #1, here, and I DO keep forgetting how stupid I am. Probably because I am stupid, and stupid people forget things.

You are WELCOME. Anything one can do to help a DUMBASS overcome their disability is usually time well spent.

I remember an article on quality of life in Jackson vs. the suburbs that did not quote or reference facts OR opinions from a single person identified as BEING from a Jackson suburb.

Did Trudy Allen contact Secretary Hosemann? That is an excellent question. Considering how much emphasis Ladd placed on anonymous bloggers not calling Sheriff Campaign Contribution you'd think that Lynch would have efforted much harder to not only ask the question but also to report on it.

I doubt seriously you can just take over something just by editorial fiat.

Oh Donna. Poor Donna. After, again, making a fool of your tablog and your editorial capabilities, suddenly, "the story disappeared".

Much as you like to think there is a conspiracy, there was, again, no real reporting, no call to Hoseman, no digging to find out facts. Again, it was "someone" who said "something" that suddenly is an attempt to control a board that will eventually force the "Creative Theory" to realize, "it's hip to be square."

Donna, being the joke of an editor that you are, I am waiting with much anticipation for the next humorous, tin foil hat story to hit the infamous Jackson Tablog.

Story is still up. Check out her comment:

Keep an eye out tomorrow for an update on this whole state-agency fiasco, and find out which Two Lakes Foundation board member actually created this ruckus. Apparently, since this story yesterday, the effort has been withdrawn. The Levee Board still stands for another day. Another bullet dodged.

Fiasco? WHAT fiasco? The only fiasco is the one that rages in her head as far as this issue is concerned. I'm starting to think she really is crazy.

What an idiot. Publishing the information of a Board in the Blue Book along with OTHER Boards, and she turns it into a "fiasco", "state takeover"?

Someone needs to 72-hour her fast.

By my comment the story disappeared...

Apparently, since this story yesterday, the effort has been withdrawn. The Levee Board still stands for another day. Another bullet dodged.

Donna actually believes her story has ***poofed*** some effort? ACCORDING TO WHO? Oh yeah - "Someone"!

Keep moving, nothing to see here, its just another kook commenting on herself to no one else except her critics. ;)

She ought to go back to anonymous comments. It would probably bring more truth and challenge to her "other world".

She isn't any different than Alan Lange. Two tightly controlled 'blogs' at opposite ends of the spectrum.

They haven't put it online yet but wait until you see the half-cocked editorial this week about flood control.

It's good to say that this one at least looks like it was a tempest in a teapot. So now that this one has calmed down, and the legislative attempts to take over the Levee Board have failed, hopefully we can focus and get down to business.

posted by ladd on 04/14/10 at 01:05 PM

Maybe we should get this ladd character to go re-interview the Sheriff and she can blow "the tempest in the teapot" wide open. Apparently, those here who are asking a lot of questions about the Sheriff's involvement should be satisfied by "someone" just saying, "nothing here of interest...move along." Or, more succintly put, "please go bury your heads in the sand, we know exactly what we are doing and you have no right to question us."

I didn't see any inkling of a "take-over" by the legislature. It appears that someone mis-reported the story and is trying to cover the side where the sun don't shine. I mean c'mon, so the A&H asked for a clarification?

OH MY GOSH, OHMYGOSH!!! They ARE trying to take over the board. Quit crying WOLF ladd, it only makes you look sophomoric.

Kingfish said...

What a liar. The only tempest was the one SHE manufactured. Period. There was and is not story but her inability to read a blue book. She still can't even give credit, she says Weaver said the blue book called it a board. Why doesn't Ladd or Lynch actually read the book and tell us what it says instead of reporting what someone else said about it?

By the way, she got it wrong too about Delbert being a director:

I think it prompted Archives to try to determine if the Levee Board were covered by statute or not to submit records to the state," said Begley, who is a director of the Two Lakes of Mississippi Foundation alongside Hosemann

He is NOT a director. The Form 990 had him listed as sec/treas. in 2008 and as an official in 2007. Only in 2006 was he shown as a director. He is no longer an official and as of February, no longer the registered agent. Hey Ladd: Factchecking.its.not.that.hard.

Kingfish said...

Actually, he is still secretary/treasurer. Nothing on paper showing he has relinquished that position.

Anonymous said...

If you cut and pasted the quote above she had gone back creatively edited her post to reflect that Hosemann was the sec/treasurer.

Anonymous said...

She's been editing after the fact to cover her tracks for years.

Anonymous said...

That is why NOONE HARDLY AT ALL comments on her stupid 2 Lakes stories, unless she posts ad nauseum to herself.

KaptKangaroo said...

"Look at me I'm Donna Ladd"...my parody is meant for the compelling writing available over at the Tabloid, yes, TABLOID!

At the JFP, if we can't report the news, we'll manufacture it.

Click on name for funny.

Anonymous said...

The JFP doesn't seem to mind the Federal Government taking over healthcare, auto companies, banks, etc, but GOD FORBID the the state takes over the Levee Board! Oooohhhhhh-WE!

Lay off Ladd. She's trying 2 pay off her IRS taxes. It kinda shows that she is a closet republican and should earn some respect from u anarchists. If the US Supreme Court decides the Obama health care act is unconstitutional, the state of Mississippi will have to continue to make the minimum health payments for its poor via medicaid and the rest will be served in emergency rooms. Addicts will remain addicts in Miss.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
