Meet the Judge Mike Mukasey, recently appointed to the office of Attorney General for the United States. He has a very impressive resume:
-Graduated from Yale Law School and was on the Law Review-Four years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, including one year on the Official Corruption Unit (worked with Guiliani in same office)
-18 years as judge for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, including 6 years as Chief Judge
-Presided over the trial of the defendants in the first World Trade Center bombing
-Presided over the trial of the defendants in the first World Trade Center bombing
-Has received several professional awards from various legal groups and associations
-Presided over the Padilla Case
-Has bipartisan support. Schumer and Republicans have recommended him for the Supreme Court.
Highly respected. Tough as nails. Took on terrorists. Worked with Guiliani on fighting corruption among public officials. Not the sort of man you would ask to soft-pedal an investigation into a relative or family friend.

KF, just as an aside, anytime that Schumer recommends someone, it pretty much erases them from my support. Especially when it is for the Sup.Ct.
I understand the implication here though.
:)
This guy is pretty well respected. What was Schumer going to do? Trash his own judge? MM is no intellectual or judicial lightweight. Schumer was actually complimentary on Roberts during the hearings. Which is a departure from his usual practice.
I wrote a bio of Mukasey for my civil liberties site back when he was being considered for the position. He's a really good, independent candidate. I'm frankly kind of surprised that Bush actually took Schumer's advice and selected him.
I like him.
