Spaten Optimator is one of my favorite beers. If you like dark beers, this one is about as dark as a beer can be. I discovered it at The Chimes in Baton Rouge while attempting the Around the World (See www.thechimes.com for an explanation.).
There is just one problem. When I try to find the beer in Jackson or order it, there is no possibility of buying it in Mississippi thanks to our esteemed and virtuous legislature. The alcohol content of Spaten Optimator is 7.2%. The liquor stores are not allowed to carry and in a catch-22 that would please Keller, the grocery stores can not sell it as its alcohol content is too high. So if I want some, I have to go out of state to buy it ($10 a six-pack).
Once again, thanks to the legislature for its misguided and stupid laws when it comes to alcohol sales.

Amen to that. That's one political issue that I fully agree with you on.
Craig already beat me too it, but it sounds like you should check out MEBA. We are fighting to have that ridiculous and antiquated law removed so that Mississippians can have access to these world class beers.
