My parents grew huge gardens when I was a kid (many years back), The vegetables they grew pretty much every year included pink eyed purple hull peas, bunch and pole butter beans, Contender green beans, lady peas (my Dad’s #1 favorite vegetable), Texas cream peas (better yield than lady pea, but not as good), speckled butterbeans (for my mom), peanuts (for my dad), sweet corn, tomatoes, several different varieties of squash, cucumbers, okra, sweet potatoes (always) and red potatoes (sometimes), and surely some I have forgotten. These were grown on a neighbor’s otherwise unused land on what seemed like eternally long rows to a kid holding a weed chopping hoe.

I am currently seven weeks into my Spring 2023 trips with the fourth group I’ve hosted since mid-March. We are in Tuscany.  The lawsuits against the Greater Jackson Arts Council are starting to pile up.   Local videographer Jake Slinkard seeks a default judgement against the organization for damages after Executive Director Silbrina Wright allegedly broke a one-year contract with him for media production services.  The plaintiff filed the lawsuit on November 15, 2022 in Hinds County Circuit Court. 

Update (11:50 AM): Arrington is dead. A Leake County deputy was shot in the leg during the standoff.  Madison County deputies (at the invitation of LCSO) breached the house with their Bearcat.  Once breached, deputies threw tear gas grenades into the home.  

 In Washington, the Biden Administration is battling with House Republicans over their relatively paltry reform plans attached to debt ceiling legislation that would raise the ceiling by $1.5 trillion in exchange for a slower rate of growth in federal spending over the next decade.

 The murder victim was Reverend Anthony Watts of St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church in D’Lo, Mississippi.

 Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones issued the following statement two hours ago. 

 A whistleblower report accused Greater Jackson Arts Council Executive Director Silbrina Wright of maxing out the credit cards, misspending grants, and bullying behavior as GJAC finances were drained.  Former Managing Director John Salem submitted the report to the Board of Directors on August 3, 2022, two days after Ms. Wright suspended him.  She fired him on August 19.

 It's never a good night when deputies seize your private plane.  Once upon a time, 1989 to be exact, Hank Williams, Jr. was supposed to get rowdy with 10,000 of his closest friends in Baton Rouge.  He got rowdy all right but not in the way those 10,000 fans expected that May 6 night.  Deseret News reported:

 JPD charged attorney Bradley Wellborn with two counts of aggravated assault last week after he shot two intruders on his rental home on Cedarhurst Drive.  He said he shot one of the intruders after he pulled an asp on the lawyer.  Mr. Wellborn explains his side of the story in an interview with WLBT.  The interview is posted below.

Four prisoners escaped from the Raymond Detention Center.  Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones tweeted: 

 The "power of prayer" is a phrase often used but not always understood. The late Dr. Frank Pollard preached on how prayer is often misunderstood in the 1995 sermon posted below. Prayer is not a checklist or something to be used only in times of need.  He sermonized we often do not know what to pray for but thankfully, there is a solution to that problem.   If you didn't make it to church, enjoy the remedial sermon as Dr. Pollard used David, D.L. Moody, and even World War II to preach his message.
