I'm going to write up the story later, but here is a video from the Monday meeting of the Hinds County Board of Supervisors.  The Board rejected the lowest bid for mosquito spraying after Mr. Hathorn of Hathorn Pest Control threw a hissy fit over not getting the contract. He demanded, no, that is not right, he told the board to award him the contract without accepting competitive bids. The board rejected the winning bid and took no further action.  Too bad Phil Fisher wasn't there. He would've straightened out any vendor who told the board to do something.   Enjoy.

Looks like we got ourselves a rematch in Canton. A judge threw out the results of the alderman's election in Ward 1 and ordered a new one be held. The Governor will select the date.  The Clarion-Ledger reported:

The Hinds County Board of  Supervisors passed a resolution honoring St. Andrews Episcopal School for being named one of the top 25 private schools in America:

Nearly 70% of the voters in a recent JJ poll said they use the Iphone.  Results are below and that is what I call dominance.

The Clarion-Ledger published a story written by Brian Eason that was rather critical of Jackson's website. Mr. Eason pointed out in a fit of showing contempt for the people of Jackson that the city does not post minutes of city council meetings on its website. Such practice is common in large cities. Jackson used to publish the minutes but stopped doing so within a couple of months after Harvey assumed office in 2009. Hmmm.... now why would a Mayor quit posting minutes right after he assumes office?  Nary a peep out of certain local publications about that change in policy.

Judge Kidd granted the injunction against the open carry law as being "unconstitutionally vague". The injunction is in place until the legislature "reviews, amends, or clarifies HB2." The court said it:

The home at 1910 Eastover Drive was robbed again in the last 24 hours.   Thieves struck the house two weeks ago and shot a woman who was watching the house as the owners were away.  The thieves also killed the dog. The victim survived and is recovering from the injury. 

Anthony Warren interviewed the shooting victim in the recent Eastover Drive robbery in the Northside Sun last week. Mr. Warren reported:

Fixing a pothole near you.  Ron Chane's crusade to fix potholes in Jackson made the British newspapers. He didn't make Page 3 (and do we really want to see him on Page 3?) but he did make the Daily Mail.  The newspaper reported:

Here are the latest crime reports for Rankin County, Madison (City), Reservoir, and Byram. Jackson has not updated the crime reports since May 19. 

An afternoon of excitement in NE Jackson and Ridgeland came to an end as Ridgeland PD arrested a Justin Fowler after he shot at a van leaving the Home Depot on I-55 N in Jackson.

Clinton Alderman Tony Greer (R-Choctaw Field) is first out of the gate as he qualified to run for Hinds County District #4 Supervisor today.  Mr. Greer is a CPA and commercial realtor. 

The Hinds County Democratic Party Executive Committee issued a press release concerning primaries for the elections of Supervisors in Districts 2 and 4. The qualifying fee will be $15.

Representative Andy Gipson (R-The Wild West) appeared on the first half of the show to discuss the court fight over the open-carry law.

Senator Jim Bean passed away Monday.  Here is an outtake from the video we produced about him in December.  It's one of those clips that was very good but was cut on the editing floor.  Very emotional moment for Mr. Bean and showed his character.

Former Canton Municipal Utilities general manager John Wallace sued three CMU board members in U.S. District Court yesterday for reverse discrimination. CMU fired Mr. Wallace on June 4, 2013, on a 3-2 vote.  He served in his position for 35 years. He is represented by attorney Lisa Ross. Mr. Wallace accused board members Landres Cheeks, Cleotha Williams and L.C. Slaughter of violating his civil rights and sued them personally. Mr. Wallace also filed a motion for a temporary restraining order requiring CMU to reinstate him as general manager.

Update: Senator Bean passed away Sunday.  It seemed fitting to bump up this post from a few weeks ago. Little did I know when I posted this video fate would take a turn for the worse.  I'm honored to have met the man and produced this video about him.  

Original post on June 26, 2013: JJ produced this video for the Mississippi Primary Healthcare Association in honor of former Senator Jim Bean. MPHA presented the video at a January luncheon honoring former Senator Jim Bean. He still lives in Hattiesburg and was a pleasure to meet. Very classy gentleman.  He took the lead in passing legislation establishing primary health care centers around the state. I am very proud of producing this video as it honors someone worthy of respect and presents several positive messages.   Enjoy the video.

Hinds County Circuit Judge Winston Kidd extended the temporary restraining order preventing enactment of the "open-carry" law until July 12, 2013.  Judge Kidd will hold a hearing on that day to determine whether to convert the TRO to an injunction or determine whether the law is actually constitutional.  See my Twitter feed at kingfish1935 to read an account of today's hearing. Judge Kidd will hear arguments today on the temporary restraining ordered he issued June 28 against enactment of the new "open carry" law. HB2 author Andy Gipson (R-The Wild West) sent these thoughts about the legal scrum to JJ and gave permission to use them:

Special Chancellor Larry Buffington ordered Hinds County to turn over to Jackson Jambalaya a copy of the settlement agreement between the county and Motorola. Hinds County sued Motorola in 2009 for damages. Hinds County claimed Motorola allowed Ridgeland and Madison to "bootleg" off of the radio system.*  The case settled for an undisclosed amount in 2011. It is not known how much money Hinds County or its attorney, Precious Martin, received in the settlement agreement. Attorney Curt Crowley represented Jackson Jambalaya.

Thieves broke into six cars at Briarwood Presbyterian Church Saturday afternoon during a carnival. The church was hosting the fund-raiser for The Little Lighthouse. The Little Lighthouse is a school for children with disabilities under the age of six years old.  The Little Lighthouse does not charge tuition and uses teachers and therapists to serve the children.
