Civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump had something to say after Attorney General Lynn Fitch cleared a Senatobia police officer in the shooting death of a one-year old child.
Nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump is calling for the immediate release of body-camera and surveillance footage after the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office announced it found an officer’s use of force was justified in the fatal shooting of 1-year-old Kohen Wiley.
Infant Kohen was fatally shot June 14, 2026, while inside a vehicle outside a Walmart in Senatobia, Mississippi, where officers had responded to a reported shoplifting incident involving diapers. Mississippi Bureau of Investigation records identify Senatobia Police Sgt. Hunter Foster as the subject of its investigation. He was placed on administrative leave following the shooting. According to Mississippi Today, Foster faced an internal complaint alleging he made a racially offensive remark toward a Black officer two days before Kohen’s death.
On Sept. 1, the Senatobia Board of Aldermen voted unanimously to fire Police Chief Harold Vanderford after The New York Times reported he repeatedly used racial slurs in text messages. Despite repeated calls for their release, body-camera and surveillance footage of the fatal encounter has not been provided to Kohen’s family.
Attorney Crump issued the following statement:
“A 1-year-old baby was shot and killed by a police officer, and now the state of Mississippi says that use of force was justified. How can anyone accept that conclusion when Kohen’s family and the public still have not been allowed to see the body-camera footage? This is a department whose chief was fired after reports of racial slurs in his text messages, and whose officer faced a complaint alleging a racially offensive remark two days before he shot Kohen. If the footage supports the state’s decision, release it. We will not stop fighting until this family gets the truth.”

Crump's record is suffering in MS.
Remember the pic of the baby's mom twerking with cash at the "funeral"?
I wonder if Crump ever uses racial slurs against white people?
Mr. (used loosely) Crump, the officer firing his weapon and the death of the child had nothing to do with him desiring to injury or kill the child. The mother is the person responsible for this tragedy. She broke the law by stealing, then chose to try to run over the officer. Go after her!
If the person hadn't shoplifter, or if the driver of the car would have stopped instead of trying to run over a cop, the 1-year-old would still be a live!
The GoFundMe is up to $28,691.
I can understand the officer did not intentionally shoot the child and should not be held criminally liable. However the civil penalty is another matter.
Under the letter of the law and police procedure the officer may be justified in discharging his weapon if he felt that he or others were in danger from the car. But whether the shooting was absolutely necessary and not a negligent overreaction might get a different outcome in a civil court. A cash settlement may still be coming.
12:40. Why would you think so?
One standard for police another for everyone else! I don’t care what his mama did Mississippi doesn’t give the death penalty for shoplifting.
If the folks running away from the cops had been white, the cop would not have fired a shot. Now dispute that.
I’m no fan of crump but I hope he sues the police officer who chose to pull the trigger
Crump can say and have any opinion of his own just like you commenting on this article. It won't be many more shootings that a cop will be getting away with. I don't feel sorry for no cop when they are in the wrong. In this situation, he's a lucky cop not facing a jury. May he did fear for his life and shot the child. He will have to live with that the rest of his life.
There's an entire universe of difference between "racial slur" and "racist homicide."
But Crump and his fans would have us believe racial prejudice is just inches away from murder.
That's how they load up the term "racist" to carry so much weight, when they aim at anyone they want to discredit.
Ben Crump uses this stuff for free Ben Crump advertising. He probably keeps his mouth shut when he gets a real case because publicity kills a potential factor in deciding to settle a case.
When I was a child my father taught me gun safety he told me to to never pull a trigger unless you know exactly where the bullet will land
I agree
Without the body cam footage, it is impossible for any of us to know if this was a justified shooting or not. It seems like if the officer is cleared, that would have to lead to some sort of charge against the mother for the child's death, no?
If they would have done what they were ordered to do, no shots would have been fired. Dispute that.
Here's the bodycam footage and it's clear. That poor baby's death is on the driver. But the Crump crowd will argue with the color of the sky. You cannot reason with insanity. https://darkhorsepressnow.com/news/2026-10-20/body-camera-footage-shows-vehicle-involved-in-senatobia-shooting-actually-hit-at-least-two-officers/
And if a white child was killed, not one person, the media, Ben Chump would blink an eye. Now dispute that.
Do these people ever think of responsibility, consequences, or think at all? Can anyone explain that?
"When I was a child my father taught me gun safety he told me to to never pull a trigger unless you know exactly where the bullet will land."
He was correct, at least as far as it goes. Assume for a moment you are at a commercial gun range, with proper backstopping, professional range officers exercising proper control, etc., and you and 9 or 10 others are shooting at large life-size targets 100 yards down-range. You fire and hit your target, generally where you were aiming and expected the bullet to impact. Unknown to you, some teenager sneaked unto the property by climbing the 10-foot-high fence with signs that read "DANGER! GUN RANGE" and was hiding behind your target. Your bullet, having hit where you intended, goes through the paper target and kills the teenager.
Are you to blame for not checking behind the target you intended to and did hit before every pull of the trigger? If you aren't, who is? Were all the other shooters acting improperly by failing to check behind their targets before each pull of the trigger? What about the range officers? As to each, why or why not?
How did the shoplifting case go in court? She must’ve been charged and convicted, correct? Oh, you just assumed she shoplifted and didn’t even say allegedly, congrats you are now liable for defamation. Better hope Kingfish doesn’t get subpoenaed for your ip address.
All it cost was the life of a toddler. Who gives a crap about a gofundme, a baby was shot dead for no reason.
Two GoFundMe accounts are better than one. Cha-ching.
@1:12 - The chief of police was fired in September for racist text messages. The same chief who ran the department where this occurred. It seems they were connected pretty directly. How is that not relevant?
Shoplifting is the crime of the century in this one-horse backwoods redneck town.
@3:12 - that’s why they became cops, so they can do whatever they want without repurcussions.
Looking for a new gravy train while skipping right over the continuous crime in the capitol city. And we know why.
@2:52 - there’s a picture from the bodycam footage, but no actual video. What did you watch to make this conclusion?
Police don't get to attempt to run over people who are legally trying to stop them.............
I refer you to the multiple instances where white ICE agents fired in this exact situation. Hunt another racist excuse.
Did you practice that with a speeding car coming at you? I'll wait.
Crump and Trump rhyme. Interesting.

If all you know about the relevancy rules of evidence was learned from the OJ Simpson trial and Mark Furman, then you might have a point.
But unless there is proof that the police chief's views on black people caused that particular officer to fire than particular shot, under those particular circumstances, then the chief's alleged racism has nothing to do with it, except to fan the flames of race-baiting.
Like I said, being guilty of racism and being guilty of homicide are worlds apart. I truly believe that Ben Crump is a race-hustling bigot, but I don't think he wants to kill me just because I'm white.
@3:55 - what’s the difference. Shooting a gun in a Walmart parking lot is risky and should only be done to protect life. Shooting it at a child is unfathomable. Cops these days are shoot first, ask questions later types. AG’s like Lynn Fitch are why they operate like that without fear of being arrested.
Crump will NOT rest until he gets the truth! Didn't he say that about Nolan Wells? What about the hustle before that? He may or may not ever get any rest but he sure walks away from cases alot.
@1:04 PM, nor does the police officer have to face a death penalty (being mowed down by a fleeing felon) for upholding the law. No thieving, no gun fire, no injuries. Mama is at fault alll the around!
