Lord Protector Tate Reeves issued the following statement.
Governor Tate Reeves today announced he has appointed Bo Luckey Commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (MDPS) effective immediately. Sean Tindell will remain at MDPS until November 30, 2026, to assist with the transition.
“Mississippi will always back the blue,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “Our state recognizes the tremendous sacrifices our law enforcement community and their families make to keep us safe. We will continue using every tool at our disposal to support them. Bo has done an incredible job as Chief of Capitol Police. His work has made our capital city and state safer. He has years of law enforcement experience and is the right person to lead the Mississippi Department of Public Safety. I’d like to thank Sean for admirably serving our state and wish him well in the next chapter of his career.”
Luckey has served as Chief of Capitol Police since Governor Reeves appointed him in May 2022. He has a decade of experience as a senior criminal investigator in the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office, having served in both the Human Trafficking Unit and the Consumer Protection Division. He has a wide range of experience serving in a variety of roles at law enforcement organizations such as the Brandon Police Department, Rankin County Sheriff’s Department, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations, and the DEA.
Luckey earned his J.D. from the Mississippi College School of Law and B.S. from Mississippi College.
“I am deeply honored and humbled to accept Governor Reeves’ appointment as Commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety,” said Bo Luckey. “I am grateful for his trust and the opportunity to continue serving the people of Mississippi. It has been a privilege to serve as Chief of Capitol Police alongside such dedicated law enforcement professionals. I am proud of what we have accomplished together and grateful for the relationships built along the way. I look forward to this next chapter and remain committed to serving Mississippi with humility, dedication, and a steadfast commitment to public safety.”
“It has been my professional honor to serve as Commissioner of Public Safety for the State of Mississippi,” said Sean Tindell. “I’ve had the privilege of working with many great public servants over the last six years, and I’m humbled by the trust Governor Reeves placed in me to lead such a historic agency. Chief Luckey has led Capitol Police to a level that has exceeded everyone’s expectations, and I’m confident he will continue that success as the next Commissioner of Public Safety. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together and look forward to the opportunity to serve the people of Mississippi in other capacities in the future.”

Well Tyree, maybe in another lifetime.
Doesn''t this just make you want to have a group hug?
Who will run Cap now?
Good for him. Good guy. MHP Troops need to tighten up.
Capitol Police Court System compared to Hinds County Court is well run with professional personnel, prosecutors and judges.
Sorry, but no golden parachute for changing positions. That is reserved for Dr. Chiefs only.
Tater made an excellent choice on this one. Bo is smart and a good guy. He's made a positive impact with Capital Police, and I hope he can make do the same with DPS.
I can't not imagine a reason (other than stupidity) why someone would want to just waste having a J.D. I guess this is a very good example of said stupidity.
Bo is a fantastic individual. You won't find many people who don't like him. He runs a tight ship. This is good news for the state. I bet he either hand picks his successor or has a hand in keeping Capital Police on track.
Social media suggests that Dr. Chief is filling the vacancy......................................Just kidding.
Congratulations to Bo! He has been a God-send for Jackson and is an admirable man by all measures. A real hero!
@11:31 Please tell us what you are doing with your J.D. There are many people who are extremely successful in the world who have a J.D. and have never practiced a single day of law.l
To me, this is a catch 22. He has done a wonderful job with Cap Police and I'd like him to continue there. On the other hand, I expect he will do a great job in the new position.
@11:31 More cops should follow his example and def not yours.
Congrats to Bo on landing a dream job.
Bo and I went to different schools together. He is a good man.
Now maybe MHP can do something about their steroid problems.
Capitol Police, MBN, State Crime Lab and MHP are all under DPS. He will have his hand over Capitol Police.
"Bo knows."
Make up your mind is a good idea, can't not, or is it stupid?
Capitol Police is a division of DPS. So Luckey will still have responsibility over it.
The Governor will make final decision on new Chief (as he does with all major decisions!) but Luckey will have more influence than anybody else, I bet.
The best example is what Lumumba and Owens just did.
This is a good hire. Congrats to Bo and to the state.
Six different employers, kinda makes me wonder.
2:06 Kinda like college coaches... if you're any good word gets around and everybody wants you.
@2:06 PM, the federal experience is with task forces, you dolt. Not separate jobs. As for the state jobs, each move represented a promotion. So, what are you wondering about?
Worked with Bo for years & glad someone with law enforcement experience is running a public safety agency now. Congrats friend
Congrats. I hope he has a strong influence on his replacement.
