Mazzio's Pizza is no more as the company ceased operations Friday at all locations.
Just curious, did anyone notice? When is the last time anyone went to Mazzio's?

I think the last time was before COVID. It wasn't what it used to be even then.
It's all Jackson's fault. Isn't it?
I live close to one, and for decades this place has had a cult following which I have never understood.
It was good in the 90s after a football game or a baseball game and they had a rockin arcade to boot
but the last 15 ish years its been beyond subpar.
It's Jackson's fault. It must be!
I’ll fess up. I always liked Mazzio’s. I actually got a pizza from them a few weeks ago. Did the quality slide over time? Sure, but so has everything else. Like the old saying goes… Pizza is like sex. Even if it’s bad, it’s still pretty good.
The only thing special they had on the menu was their signature Calzone Ring. Still tasted the same to me in 2020 as when I was a kid in the early 90s.
A lot of childhood memories of the old Mazzio's in Richland.
Eventually the Crossgates restaurant became my family Mazzio’s after marriage and kids.
I still remember the pinball machines and SNK arcades of the 90s at the Richland shop.
Privately owned out of Tulsa - 130 plus still going - leases probably up and money is likely down. Lots of competition
We used to go to the one in Madison by the 51 Kroger for the dinner buffet once every few months. It was not good by any stretch but to get overly stuffed on pizza and salad for less than $15? Not too shabby.
No, twas the large landmassettes eating $416 worth of pizza for $10.
At 75, I'm trying to self approve the nutrition aspect of my food choices. Really tasty, wood fired thin crust pizza is a favorite but can't deliver nutritive benefits I need and may not even exist in Jackson anyway.
Yes it is
Garbage pizza anyway.
Next-
Seems that folks have gotten away from eating a lot of bread. Pizza is good for a quick take home meal but not so much at a buffet.
@11:08 - Poppy Pies in Belhaven.
Used to go to the one in Richland when the kids were young enough for the buffet. Even with them eating free it was a waste of money because there was only one or two pizzas out on the line at a time and they were always some weird oddball type toppings on them.
The Clinton Mazzios lunch buffet was great. Went there a couple of times a month for years. Safest place in town, always full of cops.
Very sad to see it go.
poppy pies is $50 for two pizzas at that rate buy and build a wood fired pizza oven and start making your own
I ate at the Crossgates one not too long ago. It was still my favorite pizza other than Mercury in Hattiesburg.
The last time I had Mazzio's was some time between 2014 and 2017 in Clinton. It was good it wasn't terrible. Had a couple times between those dates.
I used to eat at the one in Madison with my kids. At some point, their pictures somehow made it on the wall in the photos from local schools. Even as they got older, we enjoyed dropping by for the lunch buffet and reminiscing. So it wasn't gourmet. We didn't care. I'm sorry it's gone.
@12:57 If you can't afford to eat out, don't.
We used to go to the Robinson Rd. one all the time in the 90’s, when it was still a normal area.
229 you nailed it. part of Kids childhood lot of great memories after soccer games. Sad its gone
12:57 Poppy Pies could charge $50/slice and it would be worth it.
Many decades ago worked at the one in Clinton. It was called Ken's back then (Ken's = table service: Mazzio's = counter service). Looks like they are closing in MS, LA and TX. I still like their pizza. Sauce is pretty good.
The 1983 Oxford Dominos (about 2 AM on a football weekend)
will always be one the best.
Mazzios is to Italian food as Taco Bell is to Mexican food. I lived in Italy for close to a decade.
Re: Poppy Pies. I've never eaten there. But I finally tried Railroad Pizza in Flora. I got a medium veggie pizza with cauliflower crust: $25. It was fine, nothing special sporty. I guess $25 for a medium pizza is the going rate now.
I dont really go out for pizza. i just microwave two totinos pizzas on paper plates and then slurp down that greasy, gooey, soggy goodness
Is Poppy's better than Sal and Phil's?
i worked at the county line road one from 1996 to 2000, all through high school. we actually made the dough fresh from scratch, mostly fresh ingredients (cheese, pepperoni and sausage were frozen), from deliveries 3 or 4 times a week. it was actually really good pizza then
@7:08 Is Poppy's pizza better than Sal and Phil's pizza? Probably.
eww No Mazzio's for years.......... We only order from Pizza business who offer Cauliflower crust and will make it w/ toppings that we want. Y'all should try it....Better for your body and gut...
Humble brag: Engage!
I haven’t been to a Mazzio’s in years. I remember being so excited when the family would go to get the pizza buffet or when I went there for a couple of friends’ birthday parties. But my local Mazzio’s stopped being any good a long time ago. Luckily there’s no shortage of other great pizza places out there.
Sal & Phil's has pizza? Or did you mean Sal & Mookie's? If so, there is ZERO comparison between them and Mazzio's. Other than they both use the term "pizza".
Oh no, rankin county is lost. It used to be so nice. However, with the culture in that area, I just cannot go into that county without a bullet proof vest. Some people still might go, but I warn all of my loved ones to never go there after dark. If it weren’t for the corrupt leadership in rankin, máximos would still be here. Will the last person who leaves rankin please turn off the lights?
