Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens issued the following statement.
Hinds County District Attorney Jody E. Owens, II, announced that a Hinds County jury has found 39-year-old Viccardo Perkins guilty of Sexual Battery, Gratification of Lust, and Filming Without Permission involving a minor victim. On December 1, 2023, officers with the Jackson Police Department responded to a residence on Fleetwood Drive regarding a reported sexual assault. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim’s mother, who reported that her daughter had disclosed sexual abuse involving Perkins, her mother’s boyfriend. During the investigation, the victim’s mother later discovered topless photographs of her daughter on Perkins’ cellphone. The child’s mother told investigators that she had been asleep when her daughter came into her room and asked that Perkins be removed from her bed. She accompanied her daughter back to the bedroom and found Perkins unclothed in the victim’s bed. She immediately alerted her other children, contacted law enforcement, and remained outside the residence until officers arrived. The victim stayed with her older sister inside the home until police reached the scene. The child was later transported to a local hospital for evaluation, and Perkins was subsequently arrested and booked into custody. Perkins was found guilty of all counts against him. He was sentenced to life imprisonment plus ten years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. “Every child deserves to feel safe in their own home and protected by the adults around them,” said District Attorney Owens. “This defendant violated that trust in the most disturbing way. If you prey on children in Hinds County, our office will pursue every available measure to hold you accountable and ensure you face the full consequences of your actions.”
Kingfish note: The victim was 13 years old.

I cringe everytime I see an article reminding me that Owens is still holding this office-
Legislators-- Legislation to address this is sorely needed
Really sucks our laws protect people like this from instant death. He gets to live, TV, three squares.......
Yo "part-time" DA, I am on the federal jury pool and your self-serving press releases have no impact on my impartiality. I will consider all admissable testimony, documents, audio tapes/transcripts, witness testimony, and video evidence. I will abide by the jury instructions and understand that closing arguments are not evidence. Then I will find you guilty you crooked bastard.
Why does Mississippi have such a high incidence of child rape, child molestation, and child molestation + murder? Why are so many Mississippians so sick and degenerate?
Sounds like a Lolita case: bond with mama to access daughter.
There is this thing called "presumption of innocence" until proven guilty.
Are they at least going to put his body in a casket in a cell when he serves those last few years?
@12:56 - Oregon, Arkansas and Alaska have the highest per-capita rates of registered sex offenders while Texas has the largest total number of registrants, followed by California and New York. Mississippi is pretty far down the list for per capita rates, if that matters.
Mississippi has the highest rate of child abuse fatalities in the United States, with 10.62 deaths per 100,000 children in 2022. While Massachusetts holds the highest overall rate of reported abuse cases (16.5 per 100,000), Mississippi ranks 7th in total abuse cases (13.3 per 100,000) but leads significantly in lethality.
Additionally, Mississippi has the third-highest rate of minor sexual abuse victims among all states, with 192 victims per 100,000 children, trailing only Arkansas and Vermont. The state also reported the highest number of registered sex offenders per capita among states with high child maltreatment rates, contributing to its prominence in these specific safety metrics.
