The Justice Department wants to expand the jury pool in the prosecution of Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens, former Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba, and former Jackson Councilman Aaron Banks.
Prosecutors filed a motion for intradistrict transfer or district-wide venire under seal today in U.S. District Court.
The motion is probably asking to transfer the case from the Jackson division to the Gulfport division in the Southern District of Mississippi or to increase the pool of jurors from the Jackson division to the entire Southern District.
The defendants are scheduled to go to trial in July.

What are their chances?
Some of you attorneys who practice Federal criminal law please tell us what are the chances of success on this motion.
Good!
im ready to see all of them frog walking in shackles to the van for their trip to the federal pen. Lumumba is a charlatan. it is unfortunate that Rukia didn’t get some charges from the DOGE investigations into USAID.
Granted
GOOD!!!!
I hope they get to transfer south, get away from central MS.
in 1999 city councilman robert williams was tried on bribery charges.
the first trial ended in a mistrial on both counts.
before the retrial the u s attorneys office moved to expand the jury pool to the entire southern district of mississippi
the request was granted by wingate who was presiding.
but.....the coast is not a jury of his "peers"
3:15 - It's a federal grand jury trial. If it's within the United States, it's "his peers".
Lumumba is going to enjoy prison. He can finally be his "true" self. You know what I mean.
Getting out of Jackson cause it is a death sntence.
Tik tok Chokwe.
Your time as a non felon gets shorter with every passing day.
There's a cell waiting for you.
Can felons and dope boys and girls serve on federal juries?
If not, then he won't be getting a jury of his peers.
@3:15 I disagree.
gulfport, pascagoula, and moss point have all the demographic problems of Jackson.
@3:51pm LOL not even close. Not. Even. Close.
I've lost track but home Wingate is not in the picture. Expansion of the pool is the next best thing (to impartiality) to a complete change of venue (if that's available in a federal trial). It will also help the prosecution if all seated attorneys are black.
By the way, 3:35, Chokwe has no peers.
Delays.
How many continuances does each side ( Defense, Prosecution) get in this type of federal trial?
