The fractious divorce just might be getting more fractious. ESPN reported:
As No. 6 Ole Miss celebrated its historic 39-34 victory against No. 3 Georgia in Thursday's College Football Playoff quarterfinal at the Sugar Bowl, the shadow of former coach Lane Kiffin continued to hang over the program. Sources told ESPN on Thursday night that it remained unclear how many Ole Miss assistants, who are joining Kiffin at LSU, will be allowed to remain with the Rebels when they face No. 10 Miami next Thursday in a CFP semifinal at the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona. Offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr., tight ends coach/co-offensive coordinator Joe Cox, wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator George McDonald and running backs coach Kevin Smith have all signed contracts to coach with Kiffin at LSU. With the transfer portal opening Friday, sources told ESPN that the Rebels aren't certain they will have all of those assistants with them when they play the Hurricanes in six days. A source said some of the assistants have apparently pushed back on leaving an Ole Miss team that is two victories away from winning a national championship. "There are going to be some fireworks," an Ole Miss source told ESPN. "We always knew this might be a possibility." Rest of article. Sources told ESPN, after the Rebels' win, that Weis was expected to coach in the Fiesta Bowl. But sources also said that a plan was in place for the other LSU assistants to return to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to help the Tigers prepare to host prospects in the transfer portal this weekend.
First of all, great job to the Rebels last night. Great win that was hard-earned as all great wins are. It is true Kirby Smart made mistakes such as the fourth down attempt on his own side of the field and leaving too much time on the clock at the end of the game. However, it is also true good or great teams capitalize on mistakes made by the other team. Every team is going to make mistakes. The bad teams don't take advantage of them. Ole Miss has its work cut out for it next week but then again, it's the playoffs where games are not supposed to be easy unless you are playing Alabama.
As for the ESPN "story," let's hope it's not true. If the chemistry is great, do not *#&@ with it. Period. The staff and players are clicking right now. They are on the same page. They are winning. Ole Miss is two games short of a national championship, a feat considered impossible just a few years ago.
Once upon a time, the Kansas City Chiefs had the best record in the AFC. Starting quarterback Elvis Grbac went down with an injury. Rich Gannon stepped in and the Chiefs went 5-1. They were on a roll. Predictably, Grbac was ready for duty for the playoffs. What does Marty Schottenheimer do but switch quarterbacks, ruining the chemistry. Broncos upset the Chiefs in the first playoff game the Chiefs played. Let's not forget what happened to Alabama when Saban kicked out Lane Kiffin right before the national championship game. Chemistry matters because it works.
All that matters is winning the national championship. All that integrity bullshit is just that, bullshit. As long as these guys are producing and Ole Miss is winning, that is all that matters. There will be time for rosters later. Good luck to the Rebels. Make the SEC proud.

Hopefully, the contract language will settle what these coaches can and cannot do. Choosing LSU was their decision. Ole Miss should have the final word.
"Everything has been extremely clear and transparent between myself and Pete Golding through constant communication, including a plan all the way through this historic championship run," Kiffin told ESPN on Friday morning.
Let's just see if Kiffin's the standup guy he insinuates that he is.
It's historic watching it all happen. Good or bad for whoever it is still a football team in the end. Team. Meaning coaches too. Even teams don't always get what they want. Good recap and comments KF! Thanks for keeping it simple.
"it's the playoffs where games are not supposed to be easy unless you are playing Alabama."
GOLD.
Ole Miss has a legit shot at winning their first football national championship in school history. Good for them.
@1:02. The CFP Committee needs to rethink putting teams in where player safety can be an issue. Such was the case in the Rose Bowl yesterday. That was not fair to the fans to watch that lopsided mauling, and Godspeed to the Elephant starting QB in his road to physical recovery.
State fan here. I had my doubts on Pete being thrust into a head coaching role. While they never played bad the entire game, that team that came out of the locker room after half time either got a boot in their ass or a hell of a motivational speech by Golding. That was a heck of a game.
Ole Miss is taking the glory away from Lane Kiffin, and making LSU look bad.
So naturally Kiffin and Gov. Landy have to step it and try to shut it down.
It was easy for them to act magnanimous, as long as they thought Georgia would win. But if it can't be them in the running for a championship, they damn sure don't want it to be their next-door neighbor.
Sportsmanship means nothing to ambitious politicians and mercenaries.
You really asking LSU to sacrifice their coaches and their recruiting for LSU. They will be back on Monday and coaching the Fiesta Bowl. LSU, has guys coming in all weekend.
Attn 12:22 p.m. He is a stand up guy. Just watch and wait for him to “stand up” for that bonus check promised in his contract for bowl wins. Credit the lawyers from OleMiss law school for the ambiguities in his Ole Miss contract.
Our Lord was right as always when He said “a man can’t serve two masters, as he will cleave to one and hate the other.”
I am a LSU fan. Lane Kiffin did what everyone who works for a living does - he made a decision that was in his best interest for him and his family and his coaching career. How many of you on this blog have turned down a better job opportunity because somebody wanted you to stay where you are because it is what they want for themselves, not what was best for you? The former Ole Miss coaches are under contract to LSU and are still coaching at Ole Miss because of the desire of Coach Kiffin for Ole Miss to go as far in the playoffs as they can. And the would be out today if not for Chambliss playing way over his head and Kirby Smart making some making some stupidly dumb coaching decisions.
If there are no fireworks the pukes at ESPeNis will create some.
Just wait until next year when LSU renames the stadium for yall. It’s still going to be Kiffins House.
agree!
That's it. The contracts will be end of any end of said person or not.
Lane who???
3:39, So Ole Miss is lucky to have LSU loan them the coaches LSU now thinks it owns, their quarterback isn't really that good, and they only won because Kirby Smart called a couple of stupid plays.
That sounds like a typical LSU fan (who probably never went to school there). Stay home, get drunk, and throw sh*t at your TV.
"The contracts will be end of any end of said person or not."
"Just wait until next year when LSU renames the stadium for yall. It’s still going to be Kiffins House."
Illiteracy is real, and it's a problem for anyone trying to express themselves with anything other than pictures.
Jeff Landry should order a block on all cellular calls coming to or from area code 205.
5:21 for the win
What kinda money do assistant coaches earn anyway?
1:20 that’s a good idea but where does it end? Major schools pay Alcorn State teams $500,000 to take homecoming beatings.
SEC Commissioner has been placed in a bind, and anyone with a pea for a brain knows he is not going to let the last SEC team remaining in the playoffs go into a semifinal game without its coaches. No one commenting here knows what the contract clauses are, but LSU is walking on extremely thin “common sense” ice. Karma can be a real bitch.
Only at LSU can one become "stupidly dumb".
Like you say, Kirby lost the game. Ole Miss did not win it.
I smell a bunch of salty bitches in here whose teams aren’t in the playoffs. Ole Miss won, doesn’t matter if Smart wasn’t so smart on a couple of plays. Ole Miss made some bad calls too. Georgia got out coached and outplayed. Hotty Toddy, GTFH LSU!
College football is what it is. A business not education. It has joined NFL as a gladiator sport. Yes I like to see young aged players put all their grit and effort and work as a team to a win but all the money and manipulation will be the death knell. I’m not even sure why it is associated with a college. At what point do we view our universities as a source of education? We use them for advancement of power and the players (students) with no life skills. Look at what DEI and tenured professors and government leaders have done to our education system. They even used it to kill our medical system. They are claiming victory for increased MS elementary education scores and they had nothing to do with it. Barksdale’s vision from many years ago allowed that. And doubling your education from nothing to now a little something is not much to brag on. I feel sorry for the Ole Miss players. They are getting the crappy end of the stick. They work hard, the power moungers eat them. Hope they learn and avoid becoming like those dishing out the misery. Our world has to improve.
Is it tampering to tell a kid that LSU has more people living in a 3mile radius of Campus than they have in Lafayette County. That he will play in front of 100k fans vers is 65k. Those 2 things will lure any smart kid without a word from the coaches.
3:39 PM nails it…..at first, then confirms being just another ____ ___ college football fan.
My Ole Miss family and friends would be happy as can be with the “system” and Lane Kiffin, had we been on the receiving end of this deal, and it had worked in our favor. College football fans are some of the absolute biggest hypocrites on the planet.
Then 3:39 proves he/she is just another typical pretend expert college football Monday morning Quarterback. Hey 3:39, every tight game comes down to “stupidly dumb coaching decisions,” idiot player error(s) etc. So stop being such a spoiled sport because your team wasn’t there. You as well spoiled sport 10:53.
3:45 PM is correct. Keep the college football sheep stirred up enough to stay “tuned in.” Because they will surely keep taking the bait, and those setting the traps will keep getting filthy rich off of them.
10:53, You are as stupid as stupid can be. Kirby was scared shitless. He called those plays because Ole Miss had UGA on the rope. Ole Miss won despite an obvious missed face mask call that nearly cost UM the game. Go back to you shit hole.
10:53 sounds like someone who is butt hurt because their team didn’t win the Duke’s Mayonnaise trophy. Both teams in the Sugar Bowl made enough mistakes and bad decisions to lose it, but in the end Ole Miss won it.
10:53
Coaches make mistakes. Players make mistakes. Referees really make giant mistakes. All the time. EVERY game.
Ole Miss won the game.
A fan of all Mississippi schools.
I need to get this off my chest:
Go To Hell LSU.
Kiffin is a pussy and you are a fool.
A non-call on Stockton's vicious hit, and a bullshit Targeting call on Georgia's Thomas that ejected him from the game had two HUGE influences on Ole Mess's ability to stay in the game.
I can’t argue the non-call, 12:32, but the announcers and the referee they consulted all agreed it was targeting. However, both put together don’t impact the game like the obvious missed face mask call could have. Sorry your team didn’t bring back a big jar of Duke’s for the Starkville trophy case, but if it makes you feel better you can get one at Kroger.
12:32, You sound like an Alabama fan, who just can't accept that his team got beat, so he has to pick out one or two plays that prove they actually gave the game away or got robbed.
Except that you're an LSU fan, so instead of figuring out how your team didn't get beat, you have to figure out how Ole Miss isn't actually better than you. (I say "you" because, like a typical LSU fan, you seem to have your identity and self-worth tied to LSU football)
We need some new billboards.
“Go to The Boot and play for The Heel.”
Call it "fireworks" or a mess or whatever you want, but it's what happens when the college football rule book allows any program with deep pockets to invade another program with contract offers and distractions. Until they fix that, it's going to happen.
