Empire issued the following update on winter storm damage.
want to provide another update on the severe winter weather impacting our state.
Sadly, a fatality has been reported in Alcorn County, bringing the total to three. Please pray for the family during this incredibly difficult time.
Approximately 143,600 are without power, down from a high of about 180,000. While utility companies are starting to make some progress, there is still a lot of work to be done. With temperatures expected to be above freezing for a few hours today and the sunshine, we’re hoping some of the ice will melt and that utility crews can make more progress. Utility companies and crews are working as hard as possible to restore power as quickly as possible.
We are in a similar situation with roads. Because of the ice and freezing temperatures, plowing roads has been difficult. In many areas around the state, plowing would lead to compacting ice and snow, not clearing. We are hoping that the above freezing temperatures and sunshine will allow ice to melt and for plowing to be more effective.
In terms of damage, the state of Mississippi has received reports of:
21 - Residential - Major Damage
27 - Residential - Minor Damage
1 - Business - Major Damage
20 - Public Roads - Major Damage
So far, 40 counties have submitted 210 requests for assistance. The state of Mississippi continues to be in contact with local emergency managers, and we will continue to deploy resources as necessary.
We have requested another 30 generators from FEMA, brining the total to 90. The Mississippi National Guard is setting up a fuel distribution network. Again, generators are being deployed to healthcare facilities, nursing homes, warming centers and rural water systems.
There are currently 67 warning shelter open in 35 counties. If you need to find a place to warm up, please visit:
Please continue checking on family, friends, and neighbors.
Mississippi is in this for the long haul and we will get through this — TOGETHER!

Don't forget that the Dems just tried to defund FEMA, as their funding is in the same bill as ICE funding.
I thought after Katrina water systems were required to have onsite backup generators? Hospitals and nursing homes are required as well.
Generators can break down.
Trump fired the acting FEMA director last year and replaced him with an acting director with no emergency management experience. This led to mass resignations at the agency.
Trump said that FEMA should be eliminated altogether.
FEMA now requires payouts over $100,000 to get reviewed by Kristi Noems office so even if Drowsy Don’s autopen signs any checks they’ll be a long time coming.
But keep on whining about what those mean Dems have been doing.
ENTERGY turned our lights off 6 hours earlier than they normally do.
@3:27 PM is just parroting the fake news heard on The View, MSDNC, and CNN.
FEMA under second Trump Administration (2025)
The Trump administration has the stated goal of reducing or eliminating the federal role of FEMA, and having individual states assume emergency management responsibilities instead.[30] In 2025, FEMA was subjected to cuts by the Trump administration, firing more than 200 new and veteran employees on February 17, 2025.[31] On March 24, 2025, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said she would move to eliminate FEMA.[32]
In May 2025, the interim leader of FEMA, Cameron Hamilton, was dismissed from his position one day after he testified to Congress: "I do not believe it is in the best interest of the American people to eliminate the Federal Emergency Management Agency."[33] He was replaced as interim FEMA leader by Marine Corps veteran David Richardson, who promptly told FEMA staff: "I alone in FEMA, speak for FEMA … Don't get in my way … because I will run right over you. I will achieve the president's intent."[34]
In August 2025, more than 180 current and former FEMA employees signed an open letter, later called the "Katrina Declaration," which criticized recent policy changes under the Trump administration and warned they undermined the agency’s ability to respond to disasters.[35][36] The letter cited requirements for DHS approval of FEMA contracts, the reassignment of staff to immigration enforcement, cuts to preparedness programs, and the suppression of climate science. Following the letter, several current FEMA employees who signed by name were placed on paid administrative leave.[37][38] FEMA stated the leave was not disciplinary, while critics and advocacy groups described it as retaliatory and raised concerns about political interference in FEMA operations.[39][40]
Richardson, the acting FEMA administrator, resigned on November 17, 2025.[41]

Sorry for the lack of Alex Jones or Art Bell sources.
Your list is merely the change of the guard which is expected on any team, in any department, in any division, or any administrative body. Elections have consequences. If you work in public service, you would know to always be prepared that you could be downsized, reorganized, managed out, or work for a boss who's accountable for your work that you don't agree with their religion, politics, or sexual orientation. Grow up, and suck it up buttercup.
