Mississippi has the second highest rate for children dying of heat injuries because they were left in vehicles.
The organization No Heat Stroke recently issued a report comparing pediatric vehicular heatstroke deaths by states. There have been 22 such deaths in 2025 and 39 deaths in 2024. The number of deaths fluctuates between 25 and 50 in most years although 2018 and 2019 saw the highest levels in 25 years at 53 deaths each year.
Unfortunately, Mississippi ranked second in per capita vehicular heatstroke deaths by state since 1998 with 41.8 deaths per capita. Only Louisiana ranked worse.*

As if another law would make a significant difference.
Avg 1 per year? That is horrible and 100% preventable, but I am sure many more die from drowning or getting mauled by a dog
Honestly I am surprised this isn't higher . There are some sure enough stupid parents out there. Disconnected from certain realities.
Send in the marines!
We aren’t ready to have an honest conversation about children being left in cars and how it isn’t always an accident.
SIDS as well.
Where is Lynn and her lipstick outrage?
Ask Grok to rank the average IQ by state from lowest to highest, then you will see why this stat isn't surprising.
Seeing that no one pays attention while driving anymore, this is not surprising. Obviously they don't pay attention when they get to where they're going to either. Accident or not, you cook a child in a car you should pay with your ass in a cage.
Amazing that the southern States have the highest number of deaths! Could it be we are in a hotter climate that the north ? Lets compare stats on States with number of deaths related to getting left in car in cold weather and see if the stats are the same
Makes you wonder….
The woman in Brandon who left her child in the car all day, and didn't realize until she went to "pick up" the child, got off with not being punished at all by authorities. Then she went and had more children.
Once a baby is born, Mississippi couldn’t care less about them.
