When it came time for the Cross, the apostles all scattered to the wind but for one. They all faced martyrdom but for one. That one disciple stood at Calvary with Mary as she watched her son die on the cross. The late Dr. Frank Pollard discussed how the apostle John was rewarded for such faithfulness. Living to nearly 100 years old, he wrote the most influential Gospel. It was he who was given the divine Revelation that has captivated so many. Dr. Pollard said more in the 1996 sermon posted below. Enjoy.
Scripture: John 10: 17-18
(NIV) 17 The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.”
(KJV) 17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
(1599 Geneva): 17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself: I have power to lay it down, and have power to take it again: this commandment have I received of my Father.
