Suspect Arrested in NW Rankin Middle School Threat

Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey issued the following statement.

"On Monday, September 9, 2024, a student at Northwest Rankin Middle School received a text message related to a threat of mass violence to be perpetrated on school grounds. Unfortunately, neither school officials nor any law enforcement agency was contacted regarding the threat.

This morning (Sept. 10, 2024) school officials were alerted to the existence of the threat and immediately acted by alerting the Safety & Security Division of the Rankin County School District and the Rankin County Sheriff's Department.

In cooperation with multiple local, state, and federal agencies, a juvenile suspect was identified and arrested without incident. The individual was charged with Making of Terroristic Threats (§97-7-75 MS Code) and transported to the Rankin County Juvenile Detention Facility in Pelahatchie, Mississippi. The suspect will make an appearance before Rankin County Youth Court Judge Kent McDaniel.

The successful response, investigation, identification and, arrest of the suspect was made possible through the efforts of Northwest Rankin School Administrators and Staff, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department, the Flowood Police Department, and the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security.

Although an arrest has been made in this case the investigation is still ongoing."

Poorly written press release. "Unfortunately, neither school officials nor any law enforcement agency was contacted regarding the threat... AT THAT TIME.

I hate to see kids put in Jail but laws need to be passed that put people in jail who threaten such things. If those people are children, then they need to be treated like adults. Since most schoolhouse shootings are done my children then if they threaten violence, they need to be treated like adults with the understanding that shooting someone or threatening to shoot them automatically makes you an adult trying to kill people.

@5:22 I believe you have solved the problem. Only wish people would realize how simple your solution would be to implement considering all the young thugs and idiots would hear about this and think "oh my, I've gotten to straighten my ass up."

How about y’all start focusing on these bullies. No kid is born a killer. It takes years of daily torture and never seeing the torturer’s punished before a kid starts plotting such things. Then the faculties always act as if they had no idea how such a thing could happen! But they always know which kids are targets. And the torturers are usually protected cliques like jocks and thugs.

6:44 Kids must be taught to speak up and say something. Other children’s lives cannot be at risk period as usually innocent victims are injured. There is help if they go to counselors & authorities first!

Some of these little monsters are just evil. It has nothing to do with bullying.

Most school shooters, if they survive, claim they've been bullied.

For the poster at 6:44, you might not know that bullying receives a whale of a lot of attention, nowadays, both at school and universally.

Bullying, including how to spot and report it as well as how to make sure you don't engage in it is emphasized as early as first grade, and continuing in each grade thereafter. I know this because my daughter is a public-school elementary school counselor.

@9:24 you must be so naive. Kids speak up all the time. The problem is their tormentors are often protected athletes. That was my case at NWR in the 90s and the same for my kids in the following decades. Now my kids are adults and left Mississippi. Y’all are all just so ignorant and obsessed with ball players and you treat them like gods.

For those too young to remember when being bullied didn’t result in school shootings, bullying has always been.

If you’re too young to remember seeing guns in racks of trucks in the high school parking lot during hunting season, then you’re likely too young to understand the desensitization to violence caused by the entertainment industry via their games, lyrics and movies.

The laws of nature are unbreakable.

12:32 you’re hilarious.

Yeah and back then if you hit back at the bully, it was ok. Now thanks to zero tolerance policies, the victim and the bully are both suspended or expelled. The problem is, the bully don't care.

Anonymous said...

If the _____ is involved the kid will likely be released to carry out his plan at a future date, like the others.

7:09 nails it.

Exactly!!!

why am i not surprised that the football-obsessed KF censored my comment about bullying at NWR?

Yours was somehow diverted to the spam folder. Looked and there it was. Apology accepted.

I was bullied in HS by jocks who were treated like royalty by the faculty. I never considered mass violence, but I know where the motivation comes from.
My children attended NWR, and bullying not tolerated - unless perpetrated by the jocks & cheerleaders. In that case, it was Sanctioned by the faculty. Fortunately, our children had a safe home environment and parents who stood up for them. For the one instance where they tried to give our child detention for an incident started by a bully, we responded immediately. Punish both, or neither. The faculty & principal were not about to give detention to the bully and quickly backed off.

A troubled kid isn't going to get helped in jail or juvenile detention. Instead, that kid will become worse.
Sadly, we don't have much in the way of help for children who either have mental health issues or are terrorized at home . There are only 3 child psychiatric doctors/ practices listed in Jackson and one in Oxford . There a more psychiatric nurse practitioners but...
So, tell me again how a parent gets help for a disturbed child?
Again, treatment for psychiatric problems and substance abuse is inadequate and an easy budget cut for a politician.

In no way will the faculty of a high school in Mississippi will EVER enforce the rules against a future SEC star. The police and sheriff won't either. Everything gets swept under the rug for Johnny Football!

You cannot control the school reaction to bullies.
You cannot control the bully.
You can only control your child.
And teaching them that guns are never an acceptable reaction to bullying is Parent 101.

Has bullying gotten worse or have kids become less capable of coping with difficulty?
I know bullying has changed for sure, with social media and I do not envy parents. But I am genuinely curious why this did not happen more in the 80's and 90's?
Guns were probably more available then in my experience. Nobody cared if you were bullied and the school would either paddle you both or tell you to fight it our after class. And talking about mental health was more taboo then.

These days, guns are regulated and locked up in most homes, and kids are encouraged to talk about issues, and there are non-stop anti-bully campaigns.

So why are kids walking powder kegs now, more so than back then?

@7:09 where are all the threats/shootings in Europe and Japan? They have all the same games, media, music.

Anonymous said...

There is no universal fix to it, and some parents are absolutely clueless. The more recent shooting involved child with known issues, where the school reported it, the child denied it, and the father bought him an AR-15 the following Christmas.

@9:41, antidepressants and other mind altering drugs. Parents pump their kids full of adderall now because they’re to lazy to be parents.

The problem is Parents or Lack thereof, used to Parents wanted their Children to be Educated, do Better in Life than the Parents had in Childhood. Now many Mothers or Fathers are missing from the Family unit & Little Johnny is spoiled rotten for the Mother or Dad to be their Buddy. That's when School changed, now Teachers have to defend every action against Johnny to his Parent & follow School (feel good) Policies. Parents should take a Step forward & support Teachers, Schools & prepare little Johnny for Life-it does get Real at some point.

9:59 AM, Europe is a pretty big place. You talking about Russia? Or the UK where they’re jailing people for social media comments complaining about migrants?

Re: Japan, their culture could never be duplicated in the US. The high crime and chaos tactics used by Democrats to take control of cities like Jackson forever prevents the US from being able to consider Japan’s strict gun control laws, even if we were dumb enough to believe there could never be future enemies, both foreign and domestic.

@8:28, I’m not sure of the relevance of your question which doesn’t address the statement made by @7:09? If the entertainment industry is the reason for school shootings why don’t we see it in other countries?

Anonymous said...

@5:11 AM I think the point is that Japan is an ethnically homogeneous, high-trust society, that is almost completely disarmed because self defense is not a right. As for Europe, one of the largest mass shootings yet was committed by Anders Breivik in Norway. Another big one was the Christchurch Mosque massacre in New Zealand. The motivation for both of those was opposition to rootless cosmopolitan globalism.

5:11 AM, it appears instead of searching for the truth you’re looking for a simple answer (likely let’s blame it on the 2nd Amendment) by using the debate tactic question “why don’t we see it in other countries.” And great job, this works very, very well on the simple mined indoctrinated got to have it now one solution quick fix crowd.

Look at the “Like Mother, Like Son” JJ link above, search “How this Colorado Town Became a War Zone,” or search the many, many other examples of out of control crime in leftist Democrat controlled cities if you need reasons to understand how important the 2A is in this country; besides the most important, the potential for future enemies, both foreign and domestic.

The entertainment industry is undoubtedly one of the causes of violence in this country including school shootings, idiots running the public school systems is a cause, idiot parents are a cause, etc.

If you want a for sure quick fix one solution answer to the school shootings in this country, ship every Democrat to Japan. Then, watch the crime and chaos skyrocket in Japan, and watch it, including school shootings plummet here.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
