The Pearl Police Department issued the following statement.
On December 7, 2023, Pearl Police Department was notified about a vehicle travelling Interstate 20 west bound that was listed through NCIC as carrying missing juveniles from North Carolina. Pearl PD Special Operations officers, while working Interstate 20, spotted the vehicle. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle on Interstate 20 west bound near Airport Road, but the vehicle refused to stop, and officers initiated a vehicle pursuit.
The suspect vehicle led officers out of the city of Pearl and into the city limits of Jackson where a Pearl Police vehicle was involved in an accident on Interstate 55 at Waterworks curve. The officer was injured and was transported to UMMC Hospital by AMR. The suspect vehicle continued onto Woodrow Wilson where the driver of the vehicle lost control, struck to other vehicles and wrecked in front of Children’s Hospital. The suspect was taken into custody, and the reported missing juvenile was recovered safety. No one in the other vehicles were injured. The driver of the vehicle is being charged with Felony Fleeing and is being held in the Rankin County Juvenile Detention Center. The other juvenile was listed as a missing person from Catawba County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina. Pearl Detectives have made contact with investigators from North Carolina, and the juveniles’ parents. Capital Police are currently working both vehicle accidents. Chief Dean Scott would like to thank Capital Police, and multiple agencies that assisted us in this incident. The Pearl Police officer is currently in stable condition at UMMC hospital.

Hats off for protecting us and prayers for a speedy recovery for the injured officer. Before you start with of of the BS comments about chases stop and think what would want if that was YOUR child/teenager in that car. Yes chases are dangerous but MOST of the time, the officers make the right call. On occasion, they make mistakes, but remember they are human. Don’t let a few idiots in blue (RCSO) spoil the job that the good guys are doing! Get them in jail just like the crooks!
Yo Pearl PD, it's spelled CAPITOL Police, not CAPITAL Police.
Wow!
Rankin county agencies catching bad guys and Capitol police in place to help.
Outstanding !!!!!!!
no mention of JPD ?
Great job to all law enforcement involved.
For Pearl PD this was the crime of the century, thus the irresponsible driving while chasing some runaway kids.
@7:43…correction. It is “capital”police when you arrest someone and seize cash in their car or on them when they commit a crime. So, In some instances, but not this one Capital would be fitting. It’s the broke ass thugs that have no cash on them that make the Department revert back to Capitol Police. And that my friends is the bottom line.
JPD is not a real police force... they are just paperwork guys after the fact.
And then... nothing is EVER done with the paperwork.
@ 7:43 - I disagree. Capitol is defined as a building, not a department. Capital Police is a department. Capitol building is a physical building.
Furthermore: Jackson is the capital and Capital Street is a long one. The state capital is home to the State Capitol Building which is protected by the Capital Police - Unless the title of that group is Capitol Building Police.
I was on the waterworks curve when this was going on. It was scary but any responsible driver knows when there are MANY blue lights coming from behind you move over. I am not sure what happened between the 18 wheeler and the police car behind me but I am thankful nobody is critically injured and the juvenile who was missing is safe.
Leaving aside the discussion about good or bad cops and when a chase makes sense...I'm glad I'm finally seeing the value of these legit cameras. Hopefully this DID result in the rescue of a kidnapped child. Or, on the other hand, he may be a runaway...but at the time, that's irrelevant and wasn't known.
Some of y'all above need to contact the Capitol Police and let them know what the correct spelling is. They will have to change their website, letterhead, uniform patches, business cards, vehicles, etc.

Sometimes runaways end-up being TRAFFICKED, and that's what this sounds like. It would be nice, if we could have the situation adequately described, at some point.
after units with Pearl Police scanned a license plate and confirmed that the suspect vehicle was occupied with a “kidnapping victim.”
is this the new "tag scan for insurance" technology? the scan info is out of the wlbt story, i thought i heard that last night on the BREAKING news story!!!
so i guess the car owner didn't have insurance?????
Both Brandon PD and Rankin SO did not join in as their info was that it was just unlicensed juveniles, no kidnapping.
They made the correct decision.

If its Capital Police, then the cars are marked wrong.
