Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba is holding his regular press conference. It is streamed below.
* The Mayor announced a cleanup at Ineva Pittman Park on Thursday, December 21. Stewpot will join in the cleanup effort. Food will be served. Donations of clothes, blankets, and food for the homeless will be accepted. Go to Keepjacksonbeautiful.com for more information.
The Mayor announced a blanket drive for the city's "unhoused population."
* The Jackson Fire Department is conducting a toy drive. They can be dropped off at Walmart on December 12, 14, and 19 between 11 AM and 1 PM.
* Paving is underway at Main Street off Ridgway. The Mayor said the repaving "focus" is turning away from thoroughfares to "neighborhood streets." Does that mean Reddoch will be repaved?
* Mayor Lumumba said the city is suffering a larger than normal number of failing traffic signals. He said they were purchased together in the 1990s.
* Scott Simmons asked about the new Richard's Disposal lawsuit. The Mayor didn't add any new information.
* Interesting. The Mayor now refers to Mr. Henifin as the "Third Party Administrator" instead of his usual "Third Party Manager." He repeatedly used "administrator" instead of "manager." Not an accident.
* The proposed water increase will be placed on the agenda for the next City Council meeting. The Mayor did not comment on the proposed rate increase.
* The Mayor said there is a "decrease" in crime according to "the data." Of course, the city has not posted the crime stats on the city website in 3 1/2 years.

Ask not what the city of Jackson can do for you. Ask what you can do for the city of Jackson.
Kingfish - he keeps mentioning the "data" shows a decrease in crime.
Boy that would be worthy of a public records request to get the real story out there.
Right? Right? Right?
The crime data must be so low, it's not worth reporting on the website!
“Decrease” in crime. The number of crimes and the number of murders is decreasing. With the hemorraging of people leaving town, of course the number of crimes is decreasing. If you use the percentage of crimes and the percentage of murders taking place, the opposite is true. Just ride through any reputable parking facility (if there are any) in JackTown and look at the number of car tags from Madison, Rankin, and other close counties.
wordsmithing is the only real skill that the mayor possesses.
It's almost like all the crime is non-existent!
We have Ray Charles out there looking for all this crime some people keep talking about. Right? He isn't seeing any of it. Right?
Wherever the Capitol Police jurisdiction is drawn, the crime numbers should be plummeting. The rest of the City will likely be skyrocketing.
I'm beginning to wonder who lives more in fantasy world: the Mayor or Saints coach Dennis Allen. Remember Kevin Bacon in Animal House: "Remain calm, all is well.." while the world falls around them...
I have an intuitive sense that this Mayor knows he cannot be reelected in Jackson. Megalomaniacal psychos like Lumumba emit huge waves and some of us can sometimes surf those waves. If true, where would he next go to get an income?
I'm clearly missing something in Administrator vs Manager. Does that mean Lumumba has accepted that he will never touch the water or sewer system?
At 3:51, people in Madison and Rankin are not allowed to vote in the Jackson mayoral election. As such, Lubumba is unbeatable.
“Mayor Lumumba said the city is suffering a larger than normal number of failing traffic signals. He said they were purchased together in the 1990s. “
I’m betting zero maintenance done. Hell, does the city even have a truck to replace the bulbs when they burn out?
Ridgeland has a permanent "Traffic Engineer": a polite, intelligent, hard working black man, who works directly under the City Engineer; he adjusts each signal as necessary to accommodate traffic flow and really knows his stuff. I mention his race because Jackson's little tyrant can't find high quality black people for many City jobs who are willing to tolerate him.
If it wasn't so sad, that little fellow could be a stand-up comedian.
Would Russell Davis or Dale Danks call a press conference and giggle about a football game ?
Four words caught my attention: "Food will be served".
Second time I've tried to post this. Has anyone noticed that WLBT's reported homicide number has been stuck at 108 for weeks now? Has Jackson become an oasis of tranquility? Or has the JPD withheld the data once again?
"...he adjusts each signal as necessary to accommodate traffic flow..."
Contraire 7:54. West Ridgeland Ave & 51 hasn't had "5 PM going home time" adjustment in years, if ever. Sure wish the nice man would pull up to 51 and see.
Madison city has many high cost traffic signals. The problem is that apparently no one knows how to set them, thus causing agonizing wait times for no reasons and congested traffic rather than the smooth travel times these lights are capable of creating.
Talking about crime stats, the city isn't ranked anymore as a dangerous city on any list. Just don't supply anyone with a statistic on crime. I figured the mayor was filling out the reports himself. I was listening to Mike Hurst talk about the mayor today on Gallo. Every council member voted to get the feds to come in and help the city with crime and the mayor vetoed it. According to Hurst, the mayor didn't want Trump militarizing the city. There is an argument the city has neighborhoods that are war zones. And I noticed "super" mayor Tiffany Henyard from Dolton Illinois has visited the mayor. Everyone look her up.
