Former Governor Phil Bryant issued the following statement.
Today former Gov. Phil Bryant released text messages and e-mail communications requested by defendants in the MDHS civil case. Gov. Bryant is not a party to these lawsuits.
The funding of the Wellness Center or Volleyball Center at USM has been the subject of an audit and a lawsuit filed by the Mississippi Department of Human Services. In July 2022, defendant MCEC subpoenaed Gov. Bryant seeking documents related to the USM Volleyball Center. Bryant, on the advice of counsel, invoked certain privileges related to the documents to preserve those privileges. Shortly thereafter, another defendant, Austin Smith, subpoenaed Bryant requesting additional documents. Bryant again cited privilege and other objections. Three media outlets, who are not a party to the lawsuit, responded to these objections in March by filing a motion asking the court for the opportunity to intervene and require Gov. Bryant, who is also not a party to the lawsuit, to disclose his communications related to the USM Volleyball Center. Bryant is required to respond to such motions and therefore incur legal fees for a lawsuit to which he is not a party. While Gov. Bryant has a right to claim the executive privilege and to object to the disclosure of these communications, he decided to waive those arguments and disclose the documents responsive to both subpoenas which are currently in his possession.
These texts messages and e-mail communications represent the entirety of responsive communications in the possession and/or control of Gov. Bryant. They are available for download now at https://bryanttexts.com.
In addition to the documents responsive to the subpoenas, Gov. Bryant is also disclosing the entirety of his text message communications with John Davis that are currently in his custody and control in the spirt of transparency. To the extent any additional messages exist, Gov. Bryant does not have them. Gov. Bryant is aware of a message between he and John Davis relating to his nephew, Noah McRae, that he does not currently possess. Gov. Bryant did not delete this or any other messages. He is unclear why this message is not on his mobile phone. Gov. Bryant has searched older devices in an effort to recover this and any other additional messages. Gov. Bryant even requested Apple’s assistance in recovering additional messages. These efforts were unsuccessful.

He deleted the texts that matter. The ones while David was still his employee. Plain and simple.
John, on bended knee, 'Oh, thank you most gracious sir', is a real pussy.
'Job Offers'? Right.
I stole from the taxpayer and got caught, now I’m going to jail
Praying for you friend
can you do a little more than that?
"If it all boiled down to gravy, there wouldn't be enough to cover a chicken fried steak".
Question? Governor why are you even entertaining these people you don’t have the required legal funds to give Anyone of this nature!
Judge, I’d like to hear from the ex Governor’s counsel. I’d like to hear from his Advisors under oath!
Governor if you spent more time helping the people of Mississippi and not private individuals you wouldn’t be in this MESS!
Some don’t run for office to get our pictures on the wall!
Davis doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy who has the gonads to pull this off on his own. Or he is a brilliant psyops mastermind. I’m going to go with Option A.
Listening to SuperTalk right now. What’s amazing to me is after hearing about the Beef Plant scandal forever 15+ years ago….not one peep about this. I understand they aren’t a news organization but they are ignoring a massive public scandal. Why?
Good ol' boys will be good ol' boys.
I've read through them. Other than Brett Favre generally showing himself to be a dirtbag, Phil's biggest error was not telling him to jump in a lake. That was confirmed by former USM prez Bennett.
There's just not much there there.
SuoerTalk is still on the air? Who knew?
7:53 you know why. They are a paid mouthpiece. They have never turned away state advertising dollars and in return they can only cover certain scandals. Wink wink
Supertalk has and always WILL be in the bag for the republican hierarchy.
Repetitive, at length, interviews over the years = unpaid political announcements.
Phil used very bad judgement. But being dumb, or being bad at your job, isn't against the law.
But I haven't seen (yet) where Phil did anything illegal. Maybe it's the there. But I haven't seen it.
Texts that Mississippi Today possesses that Bryant didn’t produce on Thursday include:
An exchange in which Bryant asked Davis to fund a specific vendor, to which Davis responded, “Yes sir we can definitely help. You can go ahead and tell them I will be reaching out to fund them. I will do today.”
A text Bryant sent asking Davis for help with his troubled nephew, whom top welfare officials had apparently taken under their wing.
A text Davis sent Bryant explaining that he had “FOUND A WAY TO FUND” a vendor Bryant supported after initially learning it would violate federal welfare grant regulations. Bryant responded: “Your (sic) the best..”
A text in which Bryant asked Davis about a Mississippi Today report on federal welfare expenditures. Davis responds that the state is spending money in “areas that encourage getting a keeping a job.” Bryant responded: “Keep up the good work.”
7:58 You have done a good job on an impossible task trying to make Phil look good. However, Phil released some of the texts - not all of them. It seems some of the more interesting texts could not be recovered. Go figure.
IANAL but doesn't the state usually defend or pay for legal defense of acts while in office of elected officials and state employees?
Did Phil not ask or did he ask and Tate's minions said no?
Either way he's up schitts creek already in ways I hadn't expected!
Who is representing Phil?
Mississippi Today = Supertalk
Can the former governor spell spoilation?
Phil put out the Do Do, the feds are about to release the POO POO, and Phil and his boys Farve included ain't going to like the smell of it.
Phil's daughter is a lawyer so don't y'all worry about him getting the best legal advice that can be had.
If Phil is ever indicted the judge can handle all the media requests for the evidence!
The amount of Sirs and I hate to bother yous is very cringy. What adults talk like this to other adults?
8:30am, oh they get paid. They get paid dearly.
Is Mississippi making a run at #1 for stupid crooks?
Discuss amongst youselfs.
The amount of Sirs and I hate to bother yous is very cringy. What adults talk like this to other adults?
Errybody nows the guvnah is a busy guy!
Evrytime you can go strait to him instead of dealin with his jesters and clingons is a truly blessed day!
I agree its cringe 9:31, but you'd be surprised.
Its some weird/weak suck up/submissive thing that some adults do and I hate in my own business as well.
I'm thinking all the pining by the MDHS director was exactly what Deputy Phil enjoyed hearing. He was finally elected as high sheriff and loved it when his minions reminded him of that.
I ain't sayin' ol' Phil done did something wrong, but dang he sure is making lots of excuses.
Well I can't speak for everyone.. but I am shaken! Phil is still a snake in the grass politician AND I think I need to procure my first set of reading glasses. This is indeed, eye opening.
KF - can you change headline to read; Phil Releases "Some" Texts

"Can the former governor spell spoilation?"
I'll resist the urge to be an ass, chalk it it up to auto-correct, and just point out that the doctrine addressing lost-destroyed evidence in a civil case is "spoliation."
8:07, Plaintiffs lawyer and Dickie Scruggs pal Billy Quinn represents Phil.
Share this with the 'clinton conspiracy bubbas' on the other thread re: the democratic playbook.......
@10:17- Huh.
Pretty sure Phil didn't know the difference either!
Thus ends what the Barksdalers saw as their exclusive.
Where is the crime?
.
"The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand. "
Where’s all the deleted text messages?
@May 5, 2023 at 10:55 AM The crime is right in front of your rose colored glasses. How much Deputy Phil paying your per hour? Or, you one of them Forever Trumpers?
If the people that were indicted and received a demand letter for payment had no communication with the Ex Governor regarding TANF funds why is he trying to explain his texts. Just say “ I was not involved in any way! And hell no , I will not use these funds meant for poor Mississippians. Also, do not approach any one under my Leadership with this shigity!
Too easy, this should never been discussed!
But naw, we got greedy little hands everywhere!
@11:55am - Deleted, duh.
Hey, 9:13 am, I’m not sure whether the former Governor can spell SPOLIATION or not, but I can damn sure confirm that you cannot.
The former governor doth protest too much, methinks. (Apologies to Shakespeare).
@1:49 it happens, it happens to me.
Let me guess
You went way off topic>>
You Named Names that could not be verified//
You went way off off the deep end""
or
Kingfish just didn't like it...probably doesn't like you either ???
Temporary Assistance To Needy Families (TANF) was for just what it says! Not for Volleyball Building, Not for Drug Rehab, Not for Prominent Friends! Spin it how you want.
Now, the Attorneys that looked over, researched and made recommendations on these expenditures must be held Accountable! We depend on them to guide us and not make us look like fools. Let’s trace where it started and how we got to this point!
Governor we don’t need the texts, I just want to know how did we get to this point!
Who selected these individuals to receive TANF Funds? And I don’t want you putting this on John Davis.
Of all your Agency Heads, not nary one would give these amount of monies without your approval! Not a one!!! That is too much power for one person.
We have controls to prevent incidents like this.
When Phil and Deb go to bed at, night do they think about how their actions and stupidity (and that is good assumption) led a bunch of their friends (e.g., News) and associates (Davis) to prison?
I would like to think they do 3:59.
But I seriously doubt it.
Denial and false self-justification are powerful sleep aids.
Methinks 2:38 misunderstood the "deleted" comment at 1:49?
I think 1:49 was saying Pheel "deleted" the texts.
Not that KF would not approve a comment from 1:49.
yall leve mr phil and mr brett alone!! dey blue blood missisippins!
What does John Davis and US Senator Cindy Hyde Smith have in common? From Brookhaven Ms!
What does Cindy- Hyde Smith, Ex Gov Bryant, John Davis and Brett Favre have in common? USM!
Not saying any of the aforementioned did anything wrong! It’s just good to have connections! However just to point out, I think all of them did or are doing an excellent job for the people of the State of Mississippi and that all the allegations are unfounded.
Thank You Very Much!
Did that make sense, I need to stop mixing brown and clear liquor. Good Night
How much money has Barksdale spent on this? What does he gain? Really sad.
Whether or not I could properly spell spoliation before this afternoon I can damn sure confirm it's not my tit in the wringer for the loooting of the TANF funds.
More than a few odd tens of millions of federal dollars are arguably misspent on various stupid and criminal schemes and it's a bunch of Phil Bryant's friends, hangers on and government underlings that are currently on the hook for these crimes.
I presume ye old whistleblower is smart enough to have lawyered up, I wouldn't be at all surprised if whether or not he can spell spoliation won't matter when the former deputy cops a plea.
Is it too late to say, "yawwwhhhnnn"?
6:01 is funny!
I remember when Feel said he does not read his emails.
I'm still laughing on that one.
in a civil case is "spoliation."
"...drinkin' wine spolie-olie, drinkin' wine"
With apologies to JLL.
Why was Brett even involved with these Government workers (MDHS) they had no fortune of their own to give away millions! They all come from humble beginnings. They don’t have personal fortunes.
Now I’m no Attorney that advises anyone, but I know when a Millionaire Star Football Player is communicating with me I know he wants something! And me with my stupid self is saying, how can I help you!!! Knowing that I personally have no money to give!
Bottom line is somebody wanted to please my favorite QB of all times and kiss his ring. Now look at what it got y’all !
TANF money got you in this mess and TANF money Will Not get you out of it.
Some of these people indicted just wanted to be Brett’s friend! They could have been my friend with just one beer.
Many lives ruined for allegedly trying to help a multimillionaire.
DHS y’all might jus want to let the Attorneys go that y’all have on retainer from the AG’s office cause y’all don’t take their advice anyway.
I don’t know where that last statement came from!
Why was Brett allegedly communicating with a Welfare agency? A agency that helps poor people! Now I ain’t the brightest but I don’t think I would call the State for help with Anything regarding giving away money!
Oh well, what the hell do I know!
“Like I’ve said Jake ‘The Governor can get 💩done.’
”On April 4, 2019, Bryant’s newly released texts show that VanLandingham asked Bryant if it would be possible to obtain funding from the U.S. Department of Defense “to support a military clinical trial there” for Prevacus’ concussion drug; in turn, Bryant contacted a military official at Camp Shelby and put him in touch with the company’s founder. The next day, VanLandingham said in the group chat that he “had a great call with commander at Camp Shelby!” Favre replied, “Like I’ve said Jake ‘The Governor can get 💩done.’”

One thing Phil surely knows about the emails he deleted...They went to somebody. So, they're still out there.
Then there's this..."DHS y’all might jus want to let the Attorneys go that y’all have on retainer from the AG’s office cause y’all don’t take their advice anyway."
Hold up there, Skippy. Each agency is assigned assistant attorney(s) general. None is on 'retainer'. They're state employees.
They may give advice or they might be knots on a log. Chris Epps, for example, had one.
And @5:12, the Asst AG assigned to MDHS was the mother of Mississippi Today’s editor. And she raised no concern about the use of MDHS funds for the volleyball facility. Weirdly, Mississippi Today did not disclose this fact, or it’s import, in its reporting until forced to do so.
Phil doesn't know...bull! I was at a Ted Dibase Jr's law of 16 bogus seminar in 2018. During the seminar Ted asked everyone to come up with a mission statement for the various state govt. agencies they worked for. A table with state troopers won the "Mission Statement" contest and each trooper was given $600 a piece. I think there were 8 troopers at that particular table. The seminar was held at the Hilton on County Line Rd and Phil had stopped by right before the seminar started as a surprise. I am sure that $600 dollars that each trooper took home could have helped a needy family.
