The Pearl Police Department issued the following statement.
Pearl Police have charged the driver and passenger of vehicle involved in a pursuit early Friday morning, May 5, that ended in an accident in Jackson.
Jevarious Gibson, 21 of Jackson, is charged with felony fleeing, possession of a stolen firearm, no license plate and no proof of insurance. The passenger, 23-year-old Jaylon Gibson, also from Jackson, is being charged with possession of a stolen firearm and drug possession. Both are currently hospitalized as a result of the accident and will be taken into custody upon their release.
A Pearl Police Officer attempted a traffic stop on a 2022 Red Dodge Charger at 12:40 a.m. on Friday, May 5, for no license plate at the intersection of Hwy. 80 and Hwy. 49. The driver fled westbound on Hwy. 80 and got on I-20 westbound at Gallatin St. in Jackson. The Charger sped down I-55 to Daniel Lake Blvd. The Charger wound up on Raymond Rd. where it struck a 2019 Jeep Cherokee at the intersection of Ellis Ave. and Raymond Rd. The jeep was occupied by six teenagers who were all injured in the crash. Pearl officers performed CPR on one of the victims from the Jeep until Jackson Firefighters arrived on scene. The driver and passenger of the Charger, as well as the occupants of the Jeep, were transported to UMMC with various injuries.
When investigators entered the information on the Jeep Cherokee into the NCIC database, they were alerted that Jackson Police reported the vehicle was taken in an armed carjacking on May 2 in the city of Jackson.
Both the Jackson Police Department and the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department were requested to work the accident investigation but refused. The Pearl Police Department contacted the Mississippi Highway Patrol for assistance. MHP continues its investigation and will determine if any charges will be filed stemming from the accident.

Tight work, Pearl PD.
Kind of reminds me of the 2 stolen cars hitting each other on University BLVD.
So if i am reading this correctly. A car driven by a criminal collides with a Jeep that was car-jacked a few days before. Has it gotten to the point that there are so many criminals in the area THAT THEY ARE RUNNING IN TO EACH OTHER
If so this speaks volumes
Curious to know why JPD and HCSO refused assistance.
2 FOR 1...
My reading comprehension is hopefully on a decline if I am interpreting this story as to what I read, which is:
The cops attempted to stop a car which fled, subsequently crashing into ANOTHER stolen car full of yutes?
Naw........
This is the point where hell begins where crime begins to overlap with other crime
So wait. Did I read this correctly? A Pearl police officer chased a car full of armed thu... I mean "friendly neighborhood kids" and they just happened to crash into a Jeep that was stolen at gunpoint and occupied by another group of thu... "friendly neighborhood kids"?
It's only a perception of crime, people. Nothing to see here. What a sh@t show. How do Jacksonians sleep at night?
Only in Jackson does a stolen vehicle police chase end with a collision with another stolen vehicle.....
Has it gotten to the point that there are so many criminals in the area THAT THEY ARE RUNNING IN TO EACH OTHER
Jackson awash in crime.
But the Emperor and his family sit safely behind a tall wall and gate with JPD on guard of their abode 24/7/365.
It tells you a lot that JPD and HCSO refused to work the accident. They would rather make a political statement then arrest criminals. If you live in Jackson or do business in Jackson stay on alert because the police will not help you.
Some of the commenters on the social media pages of local news posts about the accident were all up in arms about Pearl PD chasing someone for "petty crimes" and injuring innocent young school age kids. Like just innocent darlings getting ran over. Now that the facts come out, the 6 school aged kids were out at 1am in a stolen vehicle. I am sure they were just doing what they could coming home from a study session or something on the up and up. Thugs are just gonna thug. There are so many thugs in Jackson now, they are literally running into one another.
Raymond Road - where most vehicles on the road are stolen.
I'm not shocked at all to know that JPD - that is, JACKSON Police Department - refused to participate in the investigation. 1) It might not have any investigators left on its depleted force; 2) the few investigators it does have may have been on vacation; or regardless 3) the Mayor's policy against chasing criminals has hamstrung the Jackson Police Department so that neither #1 or #2 would matter - in fact, contributes to #1.
But I am surprised to hear that the HCSO also refused to participate in the investigation. Would like to hear from current sheriff and candidate for reelection why his department did so.
Keep it up JPD and HCSO - the Capitol Police and the Mississippi Highway Patrol are eventually going to be running all law enforcement around here and you're going to be nothing more than a rump administrative entity.
So, JPD refused to get involved in both their reported car jacking as well as a crash in their jurisdiction? Did someone tell them to stand down? Who has that authority?
We all know why JPD but HCSO refused also? That’s truly sad.
You can't even make this stuff up (except in Jackganistan).
Jackson Police Department and the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department were requested to work the accident investigation but refused.
No police force in Jackson.
Glad they passed HB 1020!
Like the water crisis. Someone else has to do the work for the city of Jackson.
NAACP & SPCA should be sued for aiding & abetting criminals.
Thank You, Pearl police for protecting Pearl and Jackson.
I told them boys to stay their asses in the city limits of Jackson when they do shigity and do not cross the Pearl river!
I even showed them the boundaries, now their asses is locked up!
Now my hands are tied. I can’t visit them cause I got a warrant and on paper (parole/probation).
Wonder can I get a Hinds County Judge to hear their case?
I wonder how they came into possession of a 2022 Dodge Charger?
Has anyone, beside myself, noticed that nearly every suspect arrested, now, has a stolen firearm? Yet, some idiots continue to scream that law-abiding citizen's right to bear arms should be infringed.
It's an old saying, but still true, when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.
Too bad it wasn't worse.
Thank you Pear Police and always double thanks you to the Mississippi Highway Patrol
A "Chase". Details of a high speed chase on city streets do matter. They do not become irrelevant simply because they take place in Jackson. It is life and death. We do not know if all six of the kids, or any of them, were involved in a carjacking days before. It does matter. I support the police but I will reserve judgment until I know more.
21 & 22 years old and in a 2022 Dodge Charger. If I were a betting man I would bet they didn't have a legit job to pay for it or even finance a new vehicle at that age. It was either cash(drug) money or it was stolen.
Kind of begs the question, why are we even paying the salaries of all of these JPD and HCSO employees if there is no desire to get criminals off the street, prevent crime and protest citizens? That’s a lot of money that could be used to fix roads.
It worries me how little I care these days and how little hope I have that the hell bound trajectory of our society will ever even attempt a correction.
I really think the lack of journalistic accountability allowed our leaders to turn up the scum bag volume, the end of fathers in homes ruined the family, and the infamy of the 24 hour news cycle and generations addicted to social media attention by any means is not something we recover from in my old man lifetime.
Jackson seems to be the center of the hell mouth.
12:26 - I'm no fan of Labamba at all. But why do most people think he can influence crime in Jackson? He can't. No one can. Crime is a result of the deterioration of the moral, ethical and spiritual fiber in a large portion of today's society. More emphasis on law enforcement will certainly catch the bad guys more quickly, but it will have little to no effect on them being bad guys to begin with. We have become so accustomed to governments resolving our issues that we think that it can solve all our problems.
I agree 2:49.
So what is your non-government suggestion to force parents to be effective at their job?
Because we agree that is the problem.
I'd argue government helped create THAT problem. So perhaps the non-government solution is to stop paying for unwed moms to crank out babies and live off subsidies. Get government out of the problem they created.
Chuck can lobby for that when he assumes his inevitable throne in Washington, right?
Wonderful Karma.
2:49 - I'm afraid you're right. Entire generations of kids being raised up in fractured families with no accountability & lots of excuses. Cops only arrest criminals after the crime. Momma & Daddy got to be society's first line of defense and a healthy fear of fear of Hell for reinforcement
2:49, 3:37, and 4:11:
When a mayor undertakes to micro-manage a police department, guts said department, and oversees multi-million-dollars surpluses in unspent budgets allocated by the city counsel, while the department remains chronically-understaffed, then yes, that mayor is at fault.
This is further evidence that we need #1020 since JPD and HCSO can’t be bothered to do their jobs. Thanks Pearl PD for being dedicated to fighting crime.
Pearl PD has arrested more hoodlums from Jackson than JPD.
Have I missed why cap police was not involved?
12:35, at this point, it's time for Tate to call in the National Guard.
A cop performed CPR until the fire truck got there. CPR? That typically suggests either someone stopped breathing or a heart stopped beating. Right.
No follow up to that?
Meanwhile: "Both are currently hospitalized as a result of the accident and will be taken into custody upon their release."
In most jurisdictions, one is considered 'in custody' when a law enforcement guard is posted at the door of your hospital room. or maybe not if 'in custody' includes responsibility for the bill.
I know that since they are from Jackson they must all be hoodlums and human waste, at least according to most of these writers, but I would like to know what happened to the six kids in the jeep. It says they were hospitalized and one had to have CPR so it was a very serious situation. Does anybody even give a damn?
2:49 great point. We have the solutions but Hinds County and Jackson Leaders don’t utilize their tools properly. Let me lay it out.
Crime is committed,
Arrest is made
Perp goes to court and convicted
Perp gets an appropriate prison sentence with teeth that bite real hard
Other wannabes take note
We got to get these fools off the street for a long, long time
If we don’t act appropriately these fools will start attacking politicians and judges, they already fighting and killing police officers
8:50 AM, They definitely were hoodlums. They were driving around in a stolen car. Isn't car theft still against the law in Jackson? What would you call people who stole a car?
@8:50 Six people do not drive a car. The car was not stolen the same day. Kids ride with other kids all the time. To simply assume that all the kids in that car were "hoodlums" or that they participated in the jacking makes no sense without further info. If any one of those kids were maimed or killed and was simply riding in a car with some other kids that's a damn shame, even if they are just Jackson kids. Most kids even in Madison or Pearl do not ask their friends for car registration before they jump in for a ride. I guess it doesn't matter in Jackson...
10:49 AM, Most parents will want to know where and who their kids are running around with at 1:am in the morning. Notice I said parents. That is one thing there is a shortage of in Jackson. If kids are going riding around with people at that time of the night with someone, they know if they own a car.
10:30 & 12:14 I live in Clinton. My son went to his prom a while back and was out with his buddies at an "afterparty" coming in at 2:00 a.m. I smelled the beer on him. I grounded him for doing what I did about 25 years ago. I'm just glad he came home safe in one piece. I still don't know who he was with and where they went. I am no hoodlum and neither is my son. Give it a break.
Sorry 12:55, sometimes you miss the mark... 12:14 is right.
12:55 You should know who your kids hang with or you're not trying hard enough. Ever heard 'birds of a feather..?'
If you smell beer and have no idea who your kids were with or where, at 2 a.m., you don't meet MY definition of parent.
Oh, but you 'grounded him'. My bad.
8:31 - Because Capitol Police don't have jurisdiction in that area and any extended boundaries don't take effect until July1 (which still doesn't cover that area).
