Governor Tate Reeves issued the following statement.
A new standard license plate has now been approved in Mississippi. The new license plates will begin being issued starting with January 2024 renewals.
“We had so many fantastic designs submitted that it was really tough to pick only one winner,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “The clear talent and creativity of Mississippians was well on display. We are excited to announce the new design and hope that drivers can enjoy showcasing it on road trips both near and far.”
The winner of the tag design contest is Leah Frances Eaton of Starkville, Mississippi. Governor Reeves thanks every Mississippian who submitted a design for the contest.

Do my eyes deceive me or is that not the same damn license plates we have had for 25 years?
not being mean her but....I have no talent whatso ever and I could have photoshopped that in 12 min or less.
So it's the blackout tag inverted, but with a magnolia flower in the middle. Clean. I like it.
I'm keeping my piss yellow tag, thank you.
Ah...the old VIN number design.
Back in 1977 and during Cliff Finch's administration, there was a Magnolia in the middle but it was kind of light green and hard to see.
Bring back Lucille!
Think the Blackout tag will be staying as well.
From Supertalk 12 April 2023
Governor Tate Reeves has signed Senate Bill 2841 into law, expanding Mississippi’s popular “blackout” tags by allowing for generic usage of the tag for all residents without requiring customization of characters.
The popularity of Mississippi’s blackout vanity plates has soared within less than a year, bringing in an influx of funding to the state’s death benefit trust fund for law enforcement and firefighters.
“The response to Mississippi’s ‘blackout’ tag has been overwhelmingly positive,” Reeves said. “But while a lot of Mississippians love the ‘blackout’ tag, a lot don’t want to have to customize what’s on it.”
These high contrast plates make it much easier for the license plate scanners. Those black out tags especially help The Police State with their unconstitutional surveillance! But most of your dimwits put your entire lives on social media anyway.
Just as boring as all the other magnolia designs. But not quite as boring as the 'black tag' that was immediately scooped up as a demographic identifier.
Gotta keep the plebes amused.
Me? Ima wait on the "I support Cap PoPo" tag.
Can we not add the state fruit on it also being a blueberry?
They left out giving credit to MDA for creating so many license plate jobs.
Since its in black and white does that make it cheaper?
I like it !
Bring back the BB King guitar!!!
Ima tell you boys what! This new plate, along with the new flag and an incoming democrat governor, is going to trigger an industrial landslide into this state the likes of which you ain't never seen.
And you read it here first!
Anything is an improvement over Phil Bryant’s baby shit yellow tags we’ve be stuck with for years.
no IN GOD WE TRUST ????
less is more??
All but one of my tags are antique, I have no idea what design is in the one that’s not.
Now if our legislature would enforce the window-tint law and pass a bill to restrict 'grey lens covers' over tags. And put prisoners back to work making automobile tags!
I like it a lot. It looks .... conservative.

There is a tint law but only enforceable by MHP. The tag covers are illegal already.
WTF does a press release about new car tags? Especially plain ole ugly ones.
I thought all non-custom plates now had to have a min of seven spots - Ex: “ABC 0000”. If this is the case, then I sure hope they will change something so the magnolia is centered and not offset!
bring back the guitar tag!! it could have become as iconic as the north carolina “first in flight”..
A role of Treasury, not Governor.
"There is a tint law but only enforceable by MHP. The tag covers are illegal already."
Absolutely incorrect! I'm aware that there is a tint law and that it can be enforced by any LEO, county, state, municipal, not limited to MHP. But it rarely is.
If there is a law restricting 'no-see-um' plate coverings in this state, it has never been enforced.
Can someone tell me what is the meaning or desire for so many "of our younger generation" wanting these NASCAR Tags? Do they represent something other than NASCAR from a "street" perspective? Please I would like to know...
Here's the problem. This and all the ones before it look great when you are holding it 18 inches in front of you. But at 25 feet you can't tell what's in the middle.
How about a plate with an image of Chowke in prison garb standing behind bars? Right?
Doesn’t change the fact that he’s even worse than Bryant, which is saying something!
HEY May 2, 2023 at 4:03 PM
Unconstitutional??
Explain.
(I can't wait for him to explain how the guys who assembled to write the constitution had license plats in mind)
Don't you know? You have a right to travel. License plates are an unlawful and unconstitutional restriction on your right to travel.
K.F.
Many will not understand your post.
So I direct them to you tube concerning sovcits (sovereign citizens) who believe they have a right to travel on public roadways in their private conveyances, and because they are not operating a vehicle for commerce, they are NOT required to have a valid driver's license, or a current license plate, or insurance.
Most of the videos end with the driver's door glass being shattered, driver being removed and taken to jail.
4:03 is one of those guys. Constitutional Auditors and most likely a member of Meal Team 6.
"...so many "of our younger generation" wanting these NASCAR Tags?"
Same meaning as neck tats. Now you know.
I've never liked the look of the Gibson ES-335, so I've never liked the guitar tag. I liked it better, though, than the lighthouse tag. That damn lighthouse isn't significant to anybody but the coastal folk. It's ugly and irrelevant. The new tag looks handsome, though.
Anyone that legit thinks Tate is worse than Pheel needs to have their license revoked immediately.
I do not want to share the road with someone that stupid.
Phil's golden eagle yeller tags were the worst ever. Who comes up with a tag color that looks like baby poop?
You have a right to travel, you just don't have a right to get wherever it is you're going, so says the State, because driving is a "privilege." The State can't deny you a right, but they do enjoy denying you what it calls a privilege.
I'd like two tags, front and back, thereby twice the chance for criminals to be id'd. Plus it would take twice as long to steal tags.
Ever see teen punks parked facing out from perimeter of a parking lot, sitting below the top of the steering wheel, perhaps scouting out some easy thuggery? Their tags aren't exposed.
Nascar tag equals no county on the tag…
"Simplicity in character, in manners, in style; in all things the supreme excellence is simplicity."
-Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
May 2 at 3:31pm will never understand this.
New tags are awesome. Very Mississippi. Excited about them.
My guess is anybody who is 'excited about' a tag is leading a fairly boring life. Now, mind you, I could be wrong.
