I live two streets over and called the police Saturday afternoon after hearing 10 gun shots. I rushed my kids and wife into the house and called 911. The dispatcher answered and could not have cared any less that I called. He got my address WRONG 3 times and then I had to awkwardly end the conversation with “I’m ok, well, I guess that’s all. Bye”. I have had better experiences at fast food restaurants than with this operator. Craziness. The police eventually made a round through the neighborhood. I’d say 20 min later or more. The neighbors on Winchester confirmed that someone unloaded a clip on Brecon.

Another reason the Capitol Police need to take over ALL of Jackson. When is it gonna be enough? The mayor has completely defunded JPD which was his goal.

Like 911 so often, JPD GPS system down and didn't know where Brecon is. JPD had to call Cap PoPo for directions.

Almost exclusively, what you ALLOW, you get MORE of. For the last 3+ years, crime has been ALLOWED (in fact, it almost seems to be encouraged) in Jackson, so there is now much MORE of it. Conversely, in the areas that don't allow crime, there is less of it. Get it?

And, another important concept is the distinction between probability and possibility. So often, people state that "well, crime happens everywhere," and while they're technically right, it's all about the probabilities vs the possibilities. While it is POSSIBLE crime will occur in the suburbs, it's not PROBABLE. In Jackson, you're simply weighing the PROBABILITIES.

They should craft a bill that if a city’s crime stats are above a certain %, the city officials are automatically recalled. And the State should have the ability to take over 911 dispatch to have clear overview of the performance of police.

@8:17 There is a magical wall, it is called the jurisdiction of Madison County. Perps understand the difference between Hinds and Madison/Rankin. They understand the risk if caught in those counties versus Hinds. So yes there is a magical wall there, created through the election of good prosecutors and judges along with Mayors that support police departments. That is a tired argument that Madison / Rankin needs Jackson to thrive. The best thing that could happen to Jackson would be the majority of the tax base to leave and push the City into default. @8:17am at least on Madison county, the judges and DAs actually prosecute and punish criminals. In Hinds, they get low bonds or no bonds, therefore back out committing crimes. Criminals know they just get a slap on the wrist. As far as JPD, they are understaffed considerably. The police chief answers to the mayor and city council and we know what a dumpster fire that is. Capitol police even took some territory from JPD and you have citizens yelling that they are too harsh! The mayor said in his initial campaign that he wanted a radical city. Looks like he got it!

@8:54. JPD currently has around 220 officers from the chief down. About 85 of those are patrol officers. Some precincts that have 10-15 beats are covering those with 3-5 officers on some shifts. To say that they are grossly understaffed is an understatement. Most of the officers have fled or retired since Chokwe took office in 2017. The Linder Maple study conducted in 1999 said that JPD needed 600 officers to be effective. I reiterate that that study was conducted in 1999. In 1999-2000, I believe that JPD had around 450 officers.

About 10 years ago my elderly neighbor whom I often visited had a 38 revolver next to his chair. I never understood why? Now I know!
I never leave home without a loaded gun! When I travel I have two pistols and a box of ammunition. My wife always asks before we leave home, do I have glory( my gun).

It’s sad that we have to live this way, but no one will harm us and live to go to thru a revolving door! They will be going to glory!

Calling 911 in Jackson will not get you to the Capital Police dispatch, even if you are in the Capitol Police district. It goes to the Jackson Police, and as I understand, there is no communication between 911 dispatchers and the Capitol Police. You need to have the number for Capitol Police if you are in the Capitol Police District. 601-359-3125.

For those of you hating on JPD , you must not know most of CP came from JPD. Only now they are allowed to do the job and have leadership stand behind them.
With JPd there is a failure at the top and due to this
, a complete failure in the communications dept, aka dispatch. Officers can generaly arrive 5 min, or less once THEY recieve the call. It's unfortunate that like patrol , dispatch is very short. A call may be held up to 30-45 min before an Officer is dispatched. The call volume at JPD is a multitude higher than any other agency in the state.

It is the right and responsibility of every citizen to protect themselves. The preferred way to do this is through a competent police force and judicial system. When that fails, it fall on us to protect ourselves. Police are by nature reactionary to violent crime. They cannot know when a crime is gong to occur and cannot intercede. The police investigate and arrest those responsible, and the courts convict and incarcerate, thus deterring those who commit these crimes. There will always be members of society who prey on others and to whom there is no deterrent that will prevent that. Situational awareness, preparation, and training are the only way to ensure your safety.
