The victims of the Brecon Drive armed robbery last week claimed on social media it took JPD over a half hour to show up after they called 911. 911 call logs indeed verify their claim.
An elderly couple took their grandchildren out to dinner the evening of May 15. Two hoodlums ambushed them when the pulled up in the driveway of their North Hampton Drive home (It was referred to as a Brecon Drive armed robbery because the home is by the intersection with Brecon.). The victims said the suspects used AR-15 or AK-47 style firearms to take away their phones and wallets. One of the suspects dropped a magazine and a victim's phone in a yard as he ran away.
JJ obtained the 911 call logs for May 15, 2023 through a public records request. The victims on North Hampton (where it intersects Brecon) called 911 at 7:08 PM and again at 7:34 PM. JPD finally showed up a few minutes after the second call.
The suspects fled on foot so JPD might have stood a chance of catching them if it had actually shown up.
Kingfish note: What probably happened was JPD quickly arrived at the scene after it finally received the call from dispatch. While much is made about police officer salaries and retention, little fuss is made about 911 staff and they are probably the biggest factor in response times.

Look this street has many local business owner and physicians as well as lawyers and all these people have a condo at 30 A or Oxford… the mayor nor do any black leaders care about these private schooled families that swim at the CCJ or tennis club. This is an income and race issue that black leadership could give a rip about. If they did care the Capitol police would be there already. Also this is a street over from Delbert hosemann so maybe he should stop being so passive and push HB1020
I should be surprised that much shooting goes on in Jackson on a TUESDAY, but I guess I'm not.
They ALL suck... can't even read and write.
I can't think of a better argument for allowing law-abiding citizens to buy and possess firearms on par with anything the bad guys may have. When seconds count, the police are only 90+ minutes away. Especially in Jackson.
The 911 call center is a joke. Half the time they don't answer the other half of the time when they answer you are interupting their Facebook time.
Why wasn't the call coded as "armed robbery"?
I called 911 in Jackson multiple times on a Friday night (I think it was May 12) after I passed an entire front bumper of a car sitting in the middle of I-55 N. No one ever answered.
They posted on Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/mississippi/comments/13iwq7o/held_at_gunpoint_in_ne_jackson_in_the_daylight/
Why doesn’t the mayor talk about this on weekly press conferences? Let’s face it he is a total laughing stock only non qualified people are around him or support him. Talk about a drag on society… that is what Lumumba is
Ha ha, You should listen to Jackson police on a scanner sometime.
I visited the call center recently. When you first walk in, it looks like there is nobody in there. Turns out there are a few people present - they sit in the dark and watch television while they handle calls.
God forbid you live in capitol police jurisdiction (Belhaven) and call for JPD - they flat out told me they transfer those calls because they believe it is not JPD's jurisdiction.
Maybe we should turn the lights on, the tv off, and make them wake up??
Plenty of empty desk if anyone needs a job.
Its all about leadership and it starts at the top...simply none to be found...not one thing has chockwe accomplished...not one thing and his people dont care.
I tried to call 911 for the 1st time in my young adult life in the early 2000's living in NE Jxn.
I did not know 911 was allowed to not answer. I was flabbergasted.
Can only imagine how much the whole system had deteriorated in the last 20 years. Thankfully, I had enough sense to know that I did not want to settle down long term in a city that could not manage such basic services.
The leaders there are as bad for tourism and development as the murder rate. They seem to be working in tandem to assure the destruction.
Its the only thing they are good at.
I’m sorry but that’s a speed record for JPD.
It's simply not a priority with the "leadership" of the city. There must be a firm hand at the top DEMANDIING that laws are enforced and civil servants do their jobs like in other cities. That's not the kind of demand this bunch has in mind. Jackson is the worst victim of "woke" leadership.
The majority of voting residents have accepted this as normal.
Its so sad. Like frogs in a pot that is slow boiling.
They just normalize the horrendous conditions as a coping mechanism.
Look at any online article. They are more angry that you point out the shortcomings in Jackson than they are at the joke leaders that created them.
We live in the second judicial district, and the Raymond sheriff's office precinct covers our area. We have the direct number to the Raymond dispatcher in our cell phones. They are very responsive. Unfortunately, at night when the Raymond office is closed, we have to call 911, and, if someone even answers, scream at them that we are in the Raymond jurisdiction. 911 squanders value time while the 911 idiot looks up our address to figure out who has jurisdiction here.
BTW, I'm posting this from our little summer home in Maine. We won't return to Mississippi, a third world hell hole state, till next winter. Thank the Lord.
Does JPD have their phone own 911 dispatchers or is it coordinated with HCSO and Hinds County EOC? I thought they shared space?

The problem isn't that you're in Mississippi. The problem is you're in Hinds county.
I still don't see any of these allegedly high powered citizens protesting or running an opposing candidate to Chokwe. They must enjoy being victims if they have so many resources but do nothing to protect themselves and their children and choose to remain in Jackson.
GET out NOW, while you CAN!
@2:28
Let’s face it… the white higher income citizens of ne Jackson have sadly taken it laying dune. Only vote in state or national elections.. NE Jackson has Michael guest Walter Michel and Republican city councilman Ashby Foote. Delbert lives in ne Jackson but as far as mayor goes… the whites don’t turnout. I find it sickening. It’s not a race issue however Lumumba despises these people and they do nothing. Just pay taxes
Who would want to be the mayor of Jackson? The current mayor has made it a lifetime job. Everyone knows the shape Jackson is in will continue to get worse. No one in their right mind would take the job. The mayor has no intention of making any improvements.
911 in Jackson is and has been horrible!!
I am sure Chocalock is kept up at night worrying about the 911 service.
I get it. Nobody wants to be the Mayor of Jxn. Valid point.
But, that was not always the case.
At one time there were many candidates. Some were even decent.
But the fact remains that the majority of Jackson residents (even if not happy with the current state of affairs and yes...we agree they don't have many choices now that the city is in ruin) participated directly or indirectly in creating the current cesspool.
They voted for the last 20 years of ineffective leadership and/or they tolerated it.
Nobody protesting at City Hall, or demanding the Mayor do his job.
Y'all can say what you want but the MAJORITY of the residents created the nightmare.
The last Republican-backed candidate, Jonathan Lee, a conservative African-American, had himself and his family credibly threatened by the Jackson dope-boys, and eventually withdrew from the race. This was back in 2013, when there was still some hope for Jackson.
3:16 is "silly wrong". 39211 has a better turnouts than any of the precincts in Jackson. (Guest lives in Rankin, BTW) They just vote for the losing candidate (see 5:10 above). Nobody white will EVER win (read that Bradley...they hate you, no matter how "good" they talk or make you feel), and the blacks still here can't leave and we have the bottom third of the class remaining. Jackson is done.
623- exactly jeff would never run...and deep down he knows it, yet he still panders by playing the game
3:16 said Delbert lives in ne Jackson not guest. He said Michael Guest represents NE Jackson as does Republican Ashby Foote and Walter Michel. That’s what was said.
"He said Michael Guest represents NE Jackson as does Republican Ashby Foote and Walter Michel. That’s what was said."
That may be what was meant, but it's NOT what was said. Go back and read the post for yourself. I did, but would not have had you not posted incorrectly.
@1:12 pm on May 24: We live in Hinds County because our family has lived here for many decades and generations. We own land there, our family cemetery is there, our family home is there, and our roots are there. We prefer to protect our property and heritage by participation in the political process of voting. Do we win? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Meanwhile, we've found the HCSO to be effective and responsive to our concerns about crime. We also own guns if it comes down to physically protecting ourselves without governmental help. We're not going to sell our birthright in order to move to Rankin or Madison counties because, whether you like it or not, the ultimate fate of those two counties is identical to the fate of Hinds.
