The race to replace former State Representative Deborah Gibbs will be um, rather interesting. Mrs. Gibbs was unkind enough to become a Hinds County Circuit Judge, thus creating the vacancy. The candidates for HD# 72 are:
Synarus Green (Bennie Thompson Protege)
Justice Gibbs (Son of Robert and Judge Gibbs)
Ailien Stingley
Rukia Lumumba
Yes, Sista Rukia is running for the Legislature. It's the perfect job for her as she gets to rant and rave to her heart's content without having to take responsibility for anything. Hell, this race sounds like a monster movie. JJ just might support her. If she wins, she will be great for business not to mention, it might be fun watching her and the House leadership go at it.
The best part of her candidacy is if she wins, Jackson can fire Quincy once and forever. Why spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a lobbyist when the Mayor can just have his sister lobby for the city since that is part of her official duties. This might work.
Stay tuned.

I guess this family just wants to see how much damage they can cause Jackson and the state of Mississippi. Virtually every town in this state knows how to run a water system except the Capitol city run by this family.
Yes. Quincy needs to go. He is really bad.
10:02 Southaven would like a word about running a water system.. Oh yeah.. lol
Seriously, 10:02. If Canton can make money on its water system, any idiot can do it.
Our version of Constanzia "Connie" Corleone.
I don't mind being judged by my father, but I know some outstanding people for whom that would be unfair.
Most children learn from their parents failures as well as their successes.
And KF certainly remembers the woman he wrote extensively about who learned the social graces and had the pleasing looks of her family and ended up in prison. Sociopaths often come from "good" and "successful" families.
Any time we paint a group by the bad behavior of one or a few, we look foolish to those with common sense and adequate education ( self or formal).
Gibbs is the only one in this race without dirty hands in some aspect of the mess in Jackson.
Gibbs and Rukia have a thing in common: running on family money and name. At least Rukia has a platform.
I don't blame her. The morons will elect her.
It's like some bizarre, masochistic-loyalty blinds feeble minded folks to their own detriment.
I'm old enough to remember when voting based solely on skin tone was a bad thing. Seems like it is the single most important factor now.
Talent, brains and skills not required. What a time to be alive!
10:49 If we are being honest, this could be said for a majority of the Mississippi legislature. The large majority suck pretty badly but keep getting elected.
Easy now…. The mayor of canton has zero nada zilch to do with cmu. CMU is what keeps the city of Canton ie: the mayors office and its subsidiaries in business.
Amazes me these City and County Governments hire lobbyists when they all know their state House and Senate members and it’s their job to look after their interests. I heard a lobbyist once from DC say if you know a US REP or Senator you don’t need us. I even know a federal elected official asked by a local govt entity what they thought about hiring a lobbyist. The federal official told them to not waste their money cause that what they were for.
I am so happy to now live over 500 miles from those people. They are dumb, crazy and criminal.
I didn't know Robert and Debra even had a son, but if Justice is like them, he has my support.
Gibbs has broad-based community backing. Rukia has a crime syndicate. Green is just trying to be Bennie.
10:49 Why do single minded twits keep harping on this skin-tone thing as if that is the determining factor just because the candidates are all black. These voters vote PARTY loyalty. PARTY If all the Republican candidates were white does that mean the voters are voting "skin-tone"? This is a Democrat stronghold pure and simple. Give race a rest will you?
At least Rukia and Green are real Democrats.
Gibbs/Lumumba runoff…. Just like Trump vs. Biden.. no one wants it, please god no. But here we are folks!
10:49 for the win!
What are Ms. Rukia's credentials? Community organizer? Rabble rouser? Alas, I repeat myself.
The effectiveness of the supposed Lumumba political machine is overrated and doesn't extend into Ridgeland.
Gibbs wasn't educated in Jackson and is out of touch with the district.
Get your popcorn ready, folks. I hope they have a debate.
11:05 is cute enough to think a super qualified White Dem would get a single black vote against a unqualified black Dem candidate in Jackson.
Its so adorable, I cannot even be angry at the naivete.
I'm not sure why everyone is so disrespectful toward Mayor Lumumba and his kin.
There is plenty of clean drinking water in so many other places than Jackson. Since when is it the city's job to take care of the city?
Potholes make driving more fun. Imagine a boring morning commute without having to dodge sinkholes and vagrants covered in their own waste.
And as for taking a walk in the city at night (or even during the day), is it really reasonable for citizens of the Capitol City to expect not to be gunned down by the disadvantaged and misunderstood victims of White America?
I prefer my delicious CS's burger with a side order of possibly getting murdered by a youthful gang of aspiring hip hop artists and NBA stars.
VOTE LUMUMBA!!!
Water System 101:
1. Build a water plant
2. Provide clean water to customers
3. Bill for volume of water used
4. Collect bills owed for water used
5. Cut off water to non-payment
6. Maintain water plant to ensure future water supply
It’s not rocket science for anyone with an elementary education, but Jackson leadership sure effs it up!
Canton made enough money through CMU to share with various CMU commissioners. They paid a little back, but still need to be looked at and prosecuted. But, as I understand it, several commissioners were “politically” connected, Even so far as related to a long time deceased sheriff.
How much scrutiny can Rukia's multiple nonprofits withstand? When will Poser Pickett run for office or would it be a pay cut?
I know Justice Gibbs, and he's a nice young man. He's young and inexperienced but a good person who can learn. And he's got great parents who would/could be good advisers when necessary. He won't have an "agenda" and would do what he thinks is best for Jackson and the State. He'll get my vote.
Y'all residents of Ridgeland - enjoy your new Marxist representative.
@12:16 - exactly! Ten's of thousands of towns and cities across America somehow manage to do it. And have been for over 100 years.
I think Green pulls this one off because Gibbs and Rukia will destroy one another.
The people are better off with Rukia. She will be a non-factor in the legislature. She can't anything or anyone. If will be fun to watch her throw fit after fit. She will have to match wits with people that are a lot smarter than her and won't cater to her.
January 26, 2023 at 11:51 AM "Gibbs wasn't educated in Jackson..."
NEWSFLASH! THIS IS A GOOD THING!!!
"Gibbs wasn't educated in Jackson"
Meaning he was taught to read in school?
This is kind of off-topic, but politician + law degree does not equal qualified for circuit judge.
10:29 Not so fast. For many years Canton Municipal Utilities was operated by honest, competent men. However, that day is gone and has been for the past 12-15 years. CMU Board members, appointed by the grossly over-paid Board of Aldermen, are either totally unqualified or are outright crooks or both. The current CMU Board will run it into the ground in the not to distant future.
I’m in the House and would love to Ruk’s ego get crushed when she walks through the Chamber ! You won’t hear a word out of her.
I found her home on Google street view and it has burglar bars on all of the windows. I guess that's for the "perception" of crime. Right?
January 26, 2023 at 10:35 AM - You must have been asleep when his father was in power. The boy is simply implementing the father's plan.
Who the hell is Quincy and is he a major player? I'm thinking NO.
3:25 pm - that's my point. Even a bunch of incompetent crooks can run a water system. Anybody but Chokwe.
Rukia is already out campaigning. She’s got Green’s frat and Gibbs’s ex girlfriend talking for her. This so messy already!
Green was a former Hattiesburg Police Officer and one of the best! Very helpful young gentleman to all, and especially the elderly! He had a great impact on our Aunts (Ella Craft) Foster kids.
Officer Green is the real deal and was a great Community Police Officer in Hattiesburg. He can’t and will not be bought. A young man beyond reproach.
Jackistan - reinventing the wheel one department at a time.
4:23. He is the BagMan!
So Rukia doesn't have a home in Ridgeland?
Let them debate. It will be the biggest event of the year.
@11:46 PM No, she lives off I-220/Hanging Moss, but District 72 is in both Jackistan and Ridgeland.
If Green is as moral and kind as 6:24 says, then he does not stand a chance of winning in Jackson.
Aside from this, I've not seen any campaigning or heard of this race at all. These candidates must not really want it. Knock on doors and give speeches!
Campaigning would involve the candidate explaining their plan for improvements.
Discussing their ideals and viewpoints, and maybe even a detailed plan of action if elected.
That is not happening here, 2:08. Nor is it necessary.
They will be elected on name recognition or who the preacher tells them to vote for.
@6:24. Sounds great. Just please tell me there’s no kinship to Tommy.
When Angelique stumps for her she can pretend to be a Ridgelander and Jacksonian simultaneously.
Lumumba got Federal problems coming, Keisha Sanders goes plantium..
Heard that Rukia and Green met this weekend.
Rukia and Synarus have platforms unlike Gibbs.
